Whoever at Bungie decided that the Soliton Flare farming section of the Exotic sword quest was a good idea is an absolute moron.

1 hr later and I'm 4/10. Urgh

They said in a pre-release interview that they wanted to respect the player's time and not have people rage quit but rather have people walk away from the game happy. That, as far as I can tell is complete bullshit. They struggle to balance between the needs of the 1% of people who play this game compulsively and those who can only play once or twice a week. The latter may spend a hole week on the moon searching for solitron flares and that may be their only experience with the game in a month.

In a surprising turn of events, my afternoon is now child-free so if anyone fancies some Trials from about half one, I'll be on.

I'm up for that. Will be on in about 10-15 mins, but we need a third. Harsin did say he was up for it though.

Trials was a bit of a joke earlier. The matching mechanic being limited to how many wins you have on your passage seems broken to me. Getting matched with people who've already been to the lighthouse, higher light level than us, and even the connections were sometimes off. Bring back connection based matching at least, this is a bit of a mess.

Edit: found this video on Bungie's forum. Ignore the title of the video and ranting about the game etc, What he shows in the slow-mo section is what I found interesting.

Basically all those times you got hit when you thought you were in cover? You probably were!

Imagine my delight when the harrowed raid gauntlets dropped from Golgaroth last night. Imagine my despair when I saw they were 310, the same as the normal raid gauntlets I already have. Fuck you Bungie!

Apart from the name, what's the difference between them?

Yeah, but he's also pointing out how bad the latency compensation is when he basically shoots the wall and kills the guy :lol:

Like in our Trails session last week when i was sniped through a 8ft square rock pillar.

Just did the exotic sword strike. It's a bit cunty that quest, there was a random dude going for a Void and two of us were going for Solar. When we both whipped out our fireswords before the boss...he still helped us out though, send him a thanks and offered to run it through again

So I picked up a TTK code tonight. I've been away from Destiny since October last year. I'm a level 22 Titan with 27 hours on the clock. I got to the end of the vanilla story (such as it was), didn't play any crucible, raids or expansion packs. I'm a bit rubbish. I'd like to have a quick blast through the new story content, see what the game is like nowadays.

Any tips? Is there a post or thread that will get me up to speed?

This is exactly why I've sacked it off. It's got even more of a grind to play, but an unenjoyable grind at that. And making you wait a week to finish some quests. No real desire to come back to it yet. I thought I'd miss it but not the case.

Didn't have much time to play this week but did fit in a couple of KF runs and finally got the machine gun (to complete the set) but still no hats!
Also really enjoyed just buzzing about the world doing Sleeper Simulant, nice quest to do solo (well apart from the strike once the gunsmith gets back to me - Edit now done),
I really like the exotic quests gives me something to do while playing at some unsociable hour, they all seem fairly obtainable so I'm having a lot of fun right now.
Have all my characters over 300 now too so it's going well, time to get stuck into hard mode I think.

I'm level 22 / +99 and haven't done any of The Dark Below or House of Wolves. I would be surprised if I ever created a second character. Should I munch on this one time power up to take me to Level 25 and begin TTK straight away or should I play the previous expansion pack content and level up normally?

Aye. To boost from 22 to 25 isn't really worth the use of the consumable - those 3 extra levels will make bugger all difference by the time you've played through the story content, as you'll hit 40 before you get to the end of the TTK story missions anyway. And in Destiny, TTK edition, life really does begin at 40.
