Destiny: FIN

Played a few games of IB tonight. Being light level 295 up against loads of 300+ made it feel incredibly tough. Whether that was in my mind or with the game mechanics, I don't honestly know, but damn. Bungie recommends 230 light for this mode but that's laughable. They'd all get stomped.

Feels so good knocking the raid out now on one sitting having spent hours working all our roles out as a team. I don't know if it's nostalgia but I still prefer vog. Can't say why exactly but I think the fights were more epic. Haven't run it in a while though.

For those that have completed kings fall a few times, what do people prefer?

That's a tricky one.

King's Fall feels more reliant on teamwork. You have to be able to call stuff out, and quickly, to do some of the activities. It is also pretty much bug free, and you are not cursing a bad teleport for fucking over a run. There is also more opportunities for loot (5 vs 3/4 for VoG).

I was going to say weapons aren't as good, but then I would be comparing elemental primaries from hard VoG vs normal mode KF.

I liked the fact post first patch VoG required everyone to know every role for the last bit. Don't know who is going to go in, so everyone be ready for everything. Deathsingers is a little like that but for the main event you can pick and choose.

I personally prefer VoG. It might be because Vision on Confluence was absolutely the best weapon in the game not called Gjallerhorn (scientifically proven by me - as I have a science degree of some kind so fuck you, science). It might also be because that first time was hard. Really had to pull together to do it and screw the loot. Oryx seems much more manageable, maybe I am just used to Destiny style raiding now?

Both really good experiences mind, I really wish they would do a 290 light VoG. Sure, they won't put the old raid weapons in. How about just giving us marks, or chance for ranked up exotics? I sure as hell would do it again.

I still think that because there'd never been anything quite like it before, the Atheon fight is peak Destiny & the whole 'descent ever deeper into the unknown' theme of the Vault of Glass was spectacularly epic & compelling. But taken as a whole & in terms of the teamwork required for each boss, King's Fall is the best raid yet. It boggles the mind to think what they'll have constructed in 5 years' time or so if they keep learning & refining what makes these raids such great experiences.

Well not impressed with IB so far as loot goes. Exactly the same rewards as in normal Crucible - that is, awful and everything is lower light level than those receiving the rewards - 275 blues for people 300+ is just broken. If its not dependant on your IB rank for drops, then something is really off.

Edit: So Eververse was released today, and someone spotted this in the returns section - "Consumable items are nonreturnable"

Well new consumables have been spotted in the database - http://db.destinytracker.com/items/consumables/consumable

Subclass Infusion - Fully levels your currently equipped subclass

Indomitable Light - Increases likelihood of weapon and armor drops from your next King's Fall foe - This better not be sold for Silver!

Warlock Level 25 Starter Pack - Contains a Level 25 Boost, Subclass Infusion, and Telemetries - There's a Hunter one as well, not sure about a Titan one.

Valorous Light - Increases likelihood of weapon and armor drops from your next Heroic King's Fall foe - Again, better not be for Silver!

Heuristic Light - Grants an additional Moldering Shard when conquering a foe in King's Fall - Because we all want more of these right?

There are also a few XP boosts, one for each enemy type, but they only last 10 mins.

Lets hope these are rewards for in game activities, and not for cash.

Blues don't go any higher than 300, so I'm not sure why you'd expect them to be dropping like that in IB. You'll be needing armour parts for upgrading the gear you do like though, that's what they're there for. For a chance of higher rated blues, drop your level to 285-290 when you hand engrams in. Put yourself over 300 with Legendaries, just in case they turn into exotics.

The green bounties pop really quickly and finishing the brown ones will net you 75 marks in total. I thought that was a pretty good deal compared to last year's IB. Seems like a decent improvement all round to me.

In other news, 5 motes for a public event, 3 for the next one on the same character. 5 motes per prestige level too. Not too shabby.

Yeah but stuff dropping in IB is currently blues. They said the main way to get IB gear is playing Iron Banner. Doesn't seem to be happening. The blues dropping is daft because its something you could get in normal Crucible.

I do agree on the bounties, 75 marks is decent. Equip the class item, shader and emblem before turning in bounties and apparently you get more rep.

Weekly crucible is not on the main map btw, its Mayhem Rumble.

I imagine you'll get better stuff dropping as you rank up, as per previous Iron Banners. I'm guessing most people playing are still rank 1.

Yeah, I did see 1 class item drop to be fair (I didn't get it), but it was 280. No idea if stuff will drop at higher light levels yet.

Edit: a rather crap player who was 305 just got the hunter cloak at 293. No idea if he was rank 2 mind.

Just because you haven't had any in the first few hours after it starting doesn't mean it's broken though.

I'm genuinely torn on micro-transactions.

In year 1 I paid for the game and 2 expansions. That was a fair amount of money (which I was perfectly happy to pay given the value I got out of it)

In year 2, I paid for TTK and they have said they won't have paid expansions. Assuming new content in year 2 and assuming that they want to be paid for their work), I'm not adverse to them getting money.

So if it is a choice between "money for better raid drops" or "money for expansions", which do I prefer? If the "better raid drops" was just less RNG, more stuff guaranteed then I could live with that.

Purely cosmetic microtransations is best though I guess.

EDIT: Is the consumables for money announced or just guessed?

Well the reason they have said no paid expansions is because they are now working 95% on Destiny 2 and do not have any resources to make another DLC. I'm sure there will be the odd quest or whatnot (tinfoil hat people might say that's just stuff they have already worked on but is timegated in TTK) but don't expect a free expansion in the next year. Destiny 2 is scheduled for Sept 2016 in their contract with Activision.

I'm perfectly happy for them to sell cosmetic items, eblems, shaders etc but those other things while not confirmed set a very nasty precedent for where the game is heading in the next few years if they turn out to be pay to win consumables.

The idea of an item to increase raid drops for silver is pretty awful. Even more than the other raids, this one is so much fun to play repeatedly, and getting better at it, little by little. I would still want to play it, even if i 'had' every single obtainable raid item.

Imagine the rage if they moved three of coins over to a silver purchase...

Those two RNG buffs for the raid don't say "extra" drops though, just an increased likelihood of receiving weapons/armour over shards or class items I guess. Which isn't that bad.

I do agree though that they shouldn't be sold for silver. If they can be traded for in game items then that's fine, as it's no different to the 3 of Coins mechanic really

Bungie comment on those consumables:

https://twitter.com/thislukesmith/status/654213224007503872

They aren't being sold.

That's good news but I wish he'd have made the response a more generic "We aren't (nor are we planning) on selling consumables that buff King's Fall drop rates for Silver."

I also noted this newer tweet "Nightfall Rewards can be underwhelming. Runes/low # of coins/no reputation burst/weak legendaries all feel like losing. We're gonna fix it"

That twitter link isn't working for me so I can't see what he said, but anyone else thinking this is Activision testing the water? They know Destiny gets datamined on a consistent basis so putting these items into the DB, letting someone discover them and then observing the response would be classic corporate manoeuvring. They probably now know that the majority of players would be fine with class boosts and whatnot but lines would be drawn at RNG increases.
