Well after about 2 hours play (Warlock Level 5) and not enough sleep - my feeling is "intrigued".

It's horrid in some regards. It explains virtually nothing, throws all sorts at in the early stages (both in terms of plot/setting/mechanics) and is completely overwhelming in a bad way,

But it appeals. The combat is satisfying (and looking ahead can see it being more complex) - and it's also simple (bar loading times) so far to move about and get into activities quickly. "One more time..." addiction could develop easily.

But the lack of explanation man. It's killing me.

  • Gear - I can't see gear in my inventory, and on my character screen when picking what to wear it shows everything I've got. Do I have to dismantle to get rid?
  • I seem to unlock 1 Warlock ability per level (via filling little green circles?). Is there more choice later on?
  • 2 weapons - 1 normal, 1 special. Pretty simple for now. Going with Scout Rifle and a Shotgun for close encounters
  • I've not looked for Grimoire Cards (or how to log in/see what I've unlocked) on Bungie.Net yet but that seems very odd.
  • I got a green armor that had an ability (faster recharge with hand cannons) that didn't work, then later suddenly flashed as unlocked - was this kills/xp related?
  • Am I missing it or does loot (other than ammo) not drop on the ground? I may run over it without realising but it just seems to pop up on right of screen?
  • I did some patrol missions and got something about a blue/orange diamond logo and 3 blue orbs pop up?

Oh and in case anyone was wondering, I finished the Crucible Quest line last night, the whole schhbang, took me a few days of playing team games with fucking useless disorganized randoms that could not tell their arse from their elbows, and the "Nightfall" type reward that I got for all blood, sweat and tears?

A fucking Crucible Commendation....

I'm never doing that, Again.

Bunch of Cunts.

At level 5, you won't have much gear yet, and certainly nothing worth holding on to, obviously. As you get new stuff, it'll have higher numbers. Just dismantle anything with lower numbers as you get new gear for now. White gear is entirely disposable. You'll start getting green and blue gear soon that is better (in that order, blue is rarer than green, purple - Legendary - rarer than blue and gold - Exotic - the rarest.) White gear will stop dropping altogether soon.

Yes, XP drives your upgrades. Your Warlock skills unlock a skill at a time. At present, it's just additive, but later skills will be either/or choices.

You'll get a Heavy Weapon soon, and don't worry about Grimoire yet at all. It has no gameplay impact, other than some minor rewards for volumes of kills.

Gear abilities unlock when you've earns enough XP with that gear equipped, you then need to go to your inventory and enable it. On green gear, this just costs Glimmer. Later on, it'll take more than that for Legendary gear.

Loot does drop on the ground, but you won't see much yet. That will change. You'll see green or blue glowing polyhedrons - they are loot.

Well, we went into the raid last night to have a little snoop around in preparation for doing it proper tonight, and the next thing I know we've been there nearly three hours!

Bungie have knocked it out of the park, it has to be said. Very hard to find a criticism other than the absurd $ to £ ratio for the price of the game, but even then I'm not sure that is something to be laid at Bunie's door.

Oh, and Muz:

;)

The preview image just makes that even funnier.

Ooh, new shotgun get! The Chaperone. I can not fault it for anything yet.

edit: end reward for the Amanda Holliday-chain that starts with the horrible The Last Word-quest.

A question on this, as I only have the strike to do...

Do you have to kill both the brothers with a shotgun, hit them both with one at least once, or just have one equipped?

Or, you know, none of them, because I'm confused and/or an idiot.

Yeah, weird right?

It's well worth a look once you get into the game and unlock a load of them, the lore and story on them is great and none of it is explained in the game!

Following Spag's post on house duties last week, I have started adding recommended light levels to the list of chores maintained by my wife. She has absolutely no clue what the fuck I am on about. But I am having a good time with it. :eyebrows:

Love it!

This might be a really stupid question (shocking I know) but...how does the website know which I've unlocked? Do I log into Bungie with my PSN ID? (HexxUK if anyone wants to be friends)

Yeah, log into Bungie and start an account if you haven't already got one. It'll ask you to link your PSN/XBL account, then you'll have access to all the goodies on the site.

Go to clans and join the Rllmuk Renegades once you get sorted, we are awesome!

That'll be my exact question in a few days, though I'm also quite tempted by Bad Juju.

I thought I'd be most tempted by Hawkmoon, as I only got that last week, but I've only had Suros since the January autorifle nerf too, and I already have year two versions of Last Word and Monte Carlo, so should probably go for Red Death as it's the weapon type I don't already have an Exotic of.

I don't think I'll buy anything until Xur's back anyway. Between the chance he'll sell one of them and the rate of drops on the Three of Coins I'll be waiting, as I fully expect him to sell whatever I buy elsewhere in the interim otherwise.

I had 200 legendary marks last night and couldnt decide what to spend some of them on to make room for more. Wish the wallet was bigger (same for glimmer - I'm always at the cap these days).

Ended up buying a couple of legendary engrams from the cryptarch. Got a couple of ok legendaries. Probably end up infusion fodder in a few days.

What are others doing to expend their marks and glimmer in a beneficial way?

As a Titan, I was having a really hard think about what to get. Then I punched something, because Titan brain am hurt.

Lucky enough to have a pick of TLW, Hawkmoon and Boolean Gemini as primary weapons. I am not a fan of hand cannons, Gemini feels solid but nothing super exciting to me.

Really want to try Surous, but I am getting some many 290+ primary weapons and so few secondaries I am looking more into those. Shame there I can pick from two shotguns, Invective and 4th Horseman. Invective isn't bad at all, but I lament my blunderbuss baby likely being hurt badly by the PvE shotgun nerf.

So, of course, I spent my marks on Helm of Saint-14, which is probably in running for best exotic in game. Especially for harder content. Going from Sunbreaker with Alpha Lupi to Defender and Saint-14 makes such a difference to heroic strike clear speed - everyone dies less, everyone gets more orbs on a regular basis.

I've got 150 marks, which year 2 exotic should I buy?

Red death, Suros or Hawkmoon?

I didn't like the new Suros, couldn't get used to the stability nerf it got a while back.

What are others doing to expend their marks and glimmer in a beneficial way?

Infusion, infusion, infusion.
