I've been thinking a lot about how they could fix it, and everything I can think of has a negative impact somewhere else on people who aren't abusing it. A cooldown would hurt tier three Court Of Oryx, as would limiting the number of times it can be used on the same boss. A daily limit would hurt the Strike playlist, and the raids. Reducing the drop rates or stack effectiveness, or increasing the price/making strange coins harder to come by would just fuck everyone.

Ah. I've not been in the Court yet. Would a five (or ten) minute cooldown still be too long for that? It's not so long as to really nerf them, but it's presumably enough to make the grind pointless, boring and stupid enough that it's completely pointless.

All they'd have to do is disallow it on Story missions. Strikes don't checkpoint, and the Taken Champions and so on are too infrequent. That's what I assume they'll do once people have blown through their coins.

I've spent a few now on Strikes and Taken dudes. It's been pretty generous: I've had a Taikonaut, an Alpha Lupi and Impossible Machines out of 7 spent.

But it does seem common to be armour-biased.

i've noticed and assumed they just want me to get that sword.

Apart from Swords, there's no new exotics heavies either.

My theory is that they saw what happened with the Guyanatrumpet and just replaced that level of devastation with the new supers. They are sooooo much fun to unleash than the 'horn. I'm also using exotics primaries more than I ever did before because that bloody thing was strapped to my heavy slot.

I'm glad the emphasis has been taken off the triple-launcher DPS bullshit that plagued Year 1 boss encounters. But i do think having a decent n00b-tube will still be invaluable for situations where suicidal hack & slash aren't gonna cut it.

I'm very much enjoying my Party Crasher +1 at the moment, it's arc & at 255 I think, makes mincemeat out of most enemies, two shots for a solar shielded cabal elite, boom.

Ranked DO last night, was initially quite disappointed as I got a super high ROF, super low impact auto rifle but it is tearing through low level enemies on the Dreadnaught.

I've not looked into the sword quest yet, does it take long to do?

Got to grind Dreadnaught patrol for regular chests, roughly 25 of them needed.

How effective is the L2 shield ability? I keep forgetting to use it.

Purple shit from Shriekers? Get blocked. Supers in Crucible? Get blocked. Valus Ta'aurc's stomp? Yup, blocked.

It's the best thing. Uses ammo, and the bigger the hit you more you lose, and it's very directional so you need to be looking straight at whatever's coming, but it's so, so good when it works. Especially midair

As long as it takes to run around the Dreadnought opening every chest you can find to get 25 halidoodhas. Its worth doing though, the sword is very good in tight spaces

Personally, I don't see why the coins are needed at all. The current drop rate even if not exploiting it is way too high, pretty much guaranteed you will get one exotic from a pack of 5 so it basically makes a random engram 7 coins. That's far too cheap. But then I hate the concept of purchasing exotics rather than them being a reward for a questline or raid anyway.

When ive got 100% on the gun smiths guns, do i just dismantle them?

Yup, unless you fancy keeping it for fun for a while.

Here's an infusion calculator for the mathematically challenged in all of us.

http://infusioncalculator.hamnation.com/

Not used it myself, as I think it's a work in progress still, so some of the ending values may be a little off.

The equation is basically 80% of the difference rounded up to the next number. This way you get the full difference if the gap is small but only a portion if large.

It also stops you dying from falling from a great height (no more embarrassing deaths in the VoG!). Also, if you swing the sword just before you land you take zero damage.

The year 2 Suros is great. Fully levelled mine at the weekend and tried it without focused fire but due to how I use it, the other perk never really kicked in for me so I switched back to the focused one.

I couldn't get back into liking it. The stability at range is really affecting my usefulness with it so I went back to the DO scout rifle.

Asking Noob questions while still wavering on purchase (on the way home).

Are the classes different/worth it? I like Warlock's look...

There's no such thing as guilds/clans in this right? It's more "which friends do you want to team up with for [ACTIVITY] tonight?"

Just noticed I'd hit 160 odd Marks and blew most of them on a Year 2 Hawkmoon and then used some Motes to fully upgrade it. It's like welcoming back an old friend.

The game now has so many things to do now. I meant to check out the Court of Oryx last night but was on for four hours and didn't get around to it - so many distractions.

The three classes are sufficiently different to be all worth playing through the main game to unlock all the supers/abilities etc. With TTK Bungie have really reduced the need to run 3 characters to max out daily/weekly rewards so currently I'm just using the master race (Titans of course).

Clans in Destiny are basically just a title under your name. The have a couple of trophy based things to unlock (strike/raid with a clan fireteam etc) but apart from that they are useless.

People can do whatever they like, obviously. I just don't understand the mentality, and am worried that Bungie's fix (because there will be a fix) will end up hurting the many, not just the few.

I dont understand why they brought them in the first place? Why not just increase the drop rate for them as a whole?

They were asking for this.

Three of coins is a tricky one. Sure, you can get a boatload of exotics from it. Not like game is suddenly shitting 300+ legendaries at you though. You can still only have one armour piece and one weapon. I mean I would still quite like Zhao Supercell and Jade Rabbit, but I'm not going to go into a rage because a) I haven't got them yet b) some people have them via the cheesy method. Christ, most of the gains I have made in this game have been via some slight cheese (some of the nightfalls, Crota hard mode). I agree the quick farm method is broken, but you need to spend those stange coins to do it. What if you suddenly have some amazing shit turn up at Xur next week?

If you want to kill Draksis a lot, that's fine by me. You don't want to kill Draksis, that is also fine by me. You want to tell me why either of those is the case? Shockingly, that is also fine by me. What is key here is you don't technically need any exotics to get up to raid level - you don't even need any blues. If you pretty much HAD to have a fully levelled exotic to stand a chance (which has been the case for some year 1 stuff) then I'd be pissed if I had just started, had no coins and they close the exploit by next Xursday (which I'm sure they will). In Taken King? Who cares, I just got a 293 pair of blue boots.

I would also say the game does seem to like giving strange coins out. I left myself with about 60-70 in my vault after buying Skullfort and some coins. Already back up to nearly 100. I couldn't tell you exactly where they came from, but I'm certainly getting them.

Well, it's a fun mechanic - it's like a fruit machine, you spend a small amount of money and you get that much more invested in the outcome of something, even if it is still essentially random. It's like the way that dog/horse racing is inherently incredibly tedious, but is very compelling if you've got a bet on. If they just increased the drop rate for exotics, you wouldn't have that feeling that you've got a stake in what happens when the boss dies.

The other thing is that games are very compelling indeed when something is just about to happen - look at Civilisation, where it's really, really difficult to stop playing because you're just about to build something or invent something, or conquer a particular city. Or those penny falls games in arcades. You'll hang on for one more go, because this time the exotic is definitely going to drop.

I'll admit, usually it is me throwing my toys out of the pram.

For the record, I wasn't. That'll just be the way you're reading it. You're all entitled to play how you want. Drowning yourself in exotics when there's plenty of stuff to do and better drop rates for blues and legendaries (which you'll need to ascend exotics), etc just seems a bit of a waste of time to me. They take a while to level, so unless you have an abundance of motes of light you're probably going to have a load of exotics you'll likely never get to use much anyway.

Year 1 Destiny had to be played like that to an extent, but they've fixed that.

Anyway, I'm done with it now. Here's a fancy shader I got from court of Oryx:

tGBPchV.png

Oh, and 300 blues are a thing, I infused my chest with one! Guessing they'll drop more frequently as you got your characters in the high 290s.
