Destiny: FIN

* Was at the divide and, as per usual, all the various events happened at the same time, so I had a huge Taken Knight, a Fallen Walker and all the assorted adds fighting me (and each other) at the same time. Wasn't exactly helpful in terms of getting anything done, but it was still amazing. :D

I love it when stuff like that happens.

That Dead Orbit scout rifle looks and feels so good, love all the weapons that have those liquid ammo counter things on them. It sounds badass too. I got a blue 297 auto rifle drop so I infused the scout with that.

Tried the coin thing at Draksis again. Got five gauntlet engrams, three chest ones and a primary weapon. Of course, three of those chest engrams were the Crest of Alpha Lupi which I already have, and I got two No Backup Plans from the gauntlets. I thought they had made it so that the RNG wasn't total shit and had a much less chance of giving you items you already have? I did get those new Immolation Fist gauntlets that unlock Explosive Pyre so that's nice.

Also got a 287 attack version of that Crucible rocket launcher with the tracking perk.

The Fun Police negs :hat:

You got nine engrams and are complaining about drops. Fuck about.

It's a legitimate complaint if that's how their system works and if he'd have collected those over a few weeks/months and got the same level of duplication he'd have every right be be pissed. Bungie seem to have some kind of time based duplication system in effect though and earning exotic engrams in quick succession seems to create a lot of duplicates. Well I hope its time based and not just a really shitty system as I have plenty of shards already thanks Bungie.

He didn't collect them over a few weeks/months though, did he? I think Nate was referring to the fact that people complain about dupes when exploiting the system to rack up loads of exotics in a hour or two's play, without entering into the spirit of the game as it should be played (especially when the game, right now, is the most fun to play it's ever been - and in any case showers exotics on you through three of coins etc).

I think everyone should just play the game their own way, so I'm not moralising. But complaining about dupes when you've exploited the system to get a dozen exotic drops in an hour is about on par with complaining about how badly a raid has gone when you've looked up tactics on youtube before completing a section. You can do that if you like, but the satisfaction you get out of even the most minimal of successes I find proportional to the effort you put in, not the other way around.

NB We got our first raid 'boss' kill tonight and it didn't drop a single fucking armour piece or weapon for any of us, and nor had any earlier sections. Not great progress, you might think. But putting the effort in and working it all out for ourselves, mistakes and all, made it a real thrill and the satisfaction of not just looking up 'how to profit from this part of the game most efficiently' was the key to how great it felt. And that's despite the lack of loot (which was admittedly disappointing). That's the same thing really. It's an unbeatable feeling, and I can't help but think that people just looking for the easiest routes to loot - the ones that avoid putting in the genuinely hard work (and I accept that it sometimes is hard work) - are just spoiling the game for themselves. So far TTK has surpassed expectations, going a massive way to putting some of the complaints of past expansions to rest, and it just seems a shame that people want to shortcut the hugely improved systems by taking the laziest route to material progression every time and not actually engaging in the content fully. I think what Nate is objecting to is when people do that, and then complain about their rewards on top.

That probably sounds harsher than it's meant, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

I actually used some of the coins while on a strike streak as well, just out of curiosity and got one engram from two coins from that too.

I put in plenty of "hard work" earning all my strange coins in the first place to buy those coins of three, so it wasn't as if I cheated to get them. Just out of interest, do you feel the same way for people who grind stacks of strange coins on three different characters every week and spend them all on engrams or exotics from Xur?

Anyway, I'm not really arsed. I'm surprised Bungie couldn't see the coins of three would be exploited like this. Fully expect them to patch in a cooldown timer sooner or later after most people have had their fun with them.

Oh, and is anybody still doing the Taken Champion quest for Petra? I'm on the Venus section and am finding it a bit of a ballache doing it solo (even if it did lead to one of my favourite moments of the weekend*), so if anyone wants to team up and get it done (and I'm happy to go back and do the Earth bit again if whoever it is isn't that far yet) that'd be grand.

I have the earth one mate, be happy to progress right through if you have the time?

Side note, started the raid and so far so good. Got to the first boss and called it, kept Enraging, need to put our thinking caps on...but we did only have 5 of us in the Fireteam, not sure if that was the main reason?

Is the red bull quest worth getting?

For 99p? Yeah.

Red Bull quest partially done, got the sparrow. Need to win Rift matches now and carry and score once. Dunno what else I have to do.

Anyone finished the entire chain?

How is it started Ben? I used a code but nothing has been flagged that i can see?

Sorry I couldn't join in last night, was a bit too late for me as I had an early start this morning. I'm dying to give it a go though, sitting around 280 light at the moment.

Can't wait to have our first little peep at the new raid tonight :D

I also thoroughly agree with Gorf. Everyone is entitled to play their own way but unless you're really, really unlucky, the game hands out exotics to you as long as the buff is active. I got one at the end of a strike yesterday evening, was about to wrap up for the night but remembered I needed the Xeroxi guy from the Taken invasion in Skywatch, popped another buff, waited, killed him and picked up another exotic for my troubles. It was 'only' a Y2 Hunter Alpha Lupi but the disappointment of that was tempered by the fact the one I'd received previously turned into a Jade (rampant) Rabbit; a gun that shows Black Hammer what it should have been.

Anyone want to try and get 6 (or upto 9) people into the Court of Oryx tonight after 8:30? I need to do the stolen rune (3rd level) court but most randoms are useless at knowing what to do at level 1, let alone 3 and we didn't manage it with just 3 in a fireteam. 3rd level is light 300 but should be doable for anyone over 270 I imagine with enough of us.

I imagine it will be engram city after 15 mins.

We managed to do a tier 3 with four of us (2 in a party and 2 randoms). I'll be on all night so if you need a hand just give me a shout.

Can you take 6 on Patrol at the dreadnought?

You can get 9 in there if you are lucky for a full court press!

Get everyone on party chat (limit is 8 though in chat :() to start with then everyone starts patrol on their own and heads to the court. Someone who spawns into the court on their own sits and waits and the others keep entering and leaving the zone until they meet up. Once together they create 2 separate fireteams of three. Same thing for 3 fireteams. Takes a little faffing but its perfectly possible.

Another method involves asking a random in the area to invite someone to their team then doing it from there but that means dealing with the unwashed masses.

I'd love to get 6 or so of us in there (all on a party chat) and smash the place silly. Randoms are so.... random.

WARNING: This method may break the Destiny Fun Police rules. Use with caution. :omg:

I got a quest called Energy Spike from Amanda Holliday (the ship lady).

What kind of light level do you need for Court of Oryx or the raid? I did a Vanguard strike on light 255 yesterday - the Undying Mind, with two randoms - and it was an absolute bastard. It was also genuinely epic, and incredibly good fun - there was one moment when everyone wiped on the final boss, only to have one of the randoms self-resurrect and nimbly dart between plasma bolts to revive the entire team and lead us to victory. It was brilliant, but it was also right on the line between fun and frustrating.

You'll need PS Plus to get online. That's a ticket price of £40 per year (and you get the games per month as part of that, too) and you can normally find it cheaper via somewhere like CD Keys. It comes with a wire earpiece and mic that plugs into the controller. Pretty much any smartphone headphone/mic set will work, and be better - I find the bundled piece very quiet.

You can spend £££ on the dedicated headphone stuff, but I just use the same bud headphones I use to listen to music on my phone.
