Xur inventory changes mentioned in the weekly update;

Bun

As a close second to the start of a new Raid, another hotly-anticipated event in the world of Destiny is the arrival of our perennial dealer of all things Exotic. He is the Agent of the Nine. You know him more affectionately as Xûr. Destiny Year Two wouldnt be the same without him. Yet, like so many things in Destiny, that snake-faced bastard will behave differently now.

Xûrs got a brand new bag. Curious about whats in it? Senior Design Lead Tyson Green (perhaps you remember him from the Destiny Year Two Reveal) is here to talk about the strange being who arrives in the middle of the night to take earn your Strange Coins.

Tyson: In Year One, Xûr was a community loot drop, a shared rallying point that everyone could cheer or curse. In Year Two, Xûrs offerings have been changed so that he will select either a specific Exotic Weapon or an Exotic Engram for sale every week. This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory.

Xûr will also sell a new consumable, the Three of Coins, which gives bosses a chance to drop Exotic Engrams, including Weapon Engrams. These consumables have a cumulative luck effect, so even if one doesnt net you a drop, the next one has a higher chance to do so.

Lastly, Xûr will also choose a Legacy Engram every week. These Engrams contain Year One Exotics (at Year One Attack and Defense levels) for players who want to finish up a Collection. They strongly bias towards Exotics not already in your Blueprint Collection, to help fill in the blank slots - excluding Mythoclast and Necrochasm, which are still only available from their Year One sources.

Xûr has said so many times himself: His will is not his own.

A few things to try this evening....

- Spend my legendary marks on a 280 defence ghost. I haven't seen any legendary ones or high level blues drop yet (I've got one from a quest) and this would get me up a few light levels instantly

- Open my engrams one at a time instead of mashing X. If you get a better piece of armour, put it on to get your light up and then you might get a better decryption than you would have done if you opened them all at once

- Just play the game and don't worry so much about marks and legendary stock armour. It sounds like you can get very good blues as your light goes up

I went from 215-ish to 270 tonight by doing all this - with strike help from lovely Donut & Spatular :) Hopefully I'll be ready for the raid tomorrow evening if Xur gives me a good exotic

Managed to get to 293 tonight (really about 290 with gear I actually want to use).

Nightfall was easily doable and great fun (we did the first one that came up in the playlist, the kill the boss in the dark one) but apart from some marks and 13 coins I got bugger all for it.

Did a few hours at the court of Oryx, great fun with a fireteam but even better with a fireteam and 3 other randoms! The 3rd tier one still kicked the shit out of us with its recommended 300 light level though. I think I had to leave about 10 blues on the floor as the postmaster was overloaded! Such a great place to farm ever increasing light levels, found a few 299 ones I need to infuse.

Someone pasted that literally 6 posts back. ;)

So only one weapon or one engram per week. Talk about drip feed.

Those new 'test your luck coins' have "fuck you RNG" written all over them. Its a scam to keep you hooked. Well played Bungie.

I think what they've done with the blues and the slow increase in Light is a stroke of genius. Every drop feels like Christmas again. And every digit increase, feels like a proper level up.

Back on the crack pipe.

Exotic sword is doable outside the raid. Am on the chain atm, though its supposed to be quite hard.

Edit: I just checked the heroic strike playlist on an alt after doing the 3 strikes for marks, and the legendary engram is still there for rewards, so there's your guaranteed Legendary mark income pretty much. Obviously a bit time consuming, but it seems to be a guaranteed 1 a strike.

So according to my dream, engrams have a soft texture like balloons...

Last night my wife said that I don't look at her the same way I look at the destiny title screen

I did 7-12 last night and then had one of those sleep fever recurring dreams where dead orbit packages were constantly popping over and over and over and over and over...

in other semi-exciting news, the loadouts app for iOS has had a nice new fancy update.

Nah, that's my point. There's a rumour that to access the raid, you need to have completed a certain quest, or maybe amount of quests. Wouldn't surprise me if getting that sword is important.

Good ol' Luke Smith has already quashed those rumours:

Fall Raid access is not gated by ANY quest (no attunement). Hit 40, gear up, group up and when the activity is turned on, go nuts.

Up to 278 light now after some good fun in the Nightfall and Court of Oryx last night with Weavus and Kanselier.

Sword obtained, need to do an antiquated rune level of the court at some point for another quest, getting there on quite a few other bits.

I'd be up for raiding tonight if anyone has space (assuming I can get a few more levels on the board - no point buying stuff with marks now as I'm almost at 280 anyway - hoping Xur can sort me out).

So am I looking at the higher the defense/attack, the more Light I'll get?

As someone with just the base game thinking of getting back into Destiny, what's my best way of getting all the add-ons together with the Taken King? As far as I can tell, it's to re-buy the base game as part of the Legendary edition, as that will cost me about half as much as just buying the add-ons. But that seems like madness, so I keep thinking it can't possibly be right! Is it?

It's crazy, but it's correct.

Has anyone else got Red Death and Bad Juju missing from their 'missing year 2 exotics' list?

Berties mentioned last night that he didn't have Bad Juju and I thought I'd check and sure enough Bad Juju and Red Death aren't there.

I've only checked the app and on the Bungie site so could just be bugged but I know they were definitely in the tower in Tuesday as I remember checking out all the new perks.

Both originals are sitting in my year 1 vault so definitely have them.

For some curious reason I would like to give Destiny go. I think I would be completely overwhelmed though, any other members recently started from scratch? XB1 edition?

In effect, the new expansion is as close to a reset as it's possible to get - all year one players' old gear is useless. And since you now get an immediate boost to level 26 with your first character, and levelling from there to 40 is trivial (a matter of hours), you'd catch up level-wise more quickly now than in any time since vanilla launch day. Then the rest of it is playing for better gear, same as everyone else. So it's an ideal time to start really.
