Destiny: FIN

Yeah, Jolly Holiday has that same annoying thing the Thorn bounty had where you earn points for kills and they get taken away for death so progression is veeeeeery sloooow and frustrating (if you're shit like me :/).

Apparently you don't need to actually use Ladt Word though, just have it equipped so the hang back and heavy technique probably works best.

Another tip, if you un-equip TLW then you don't get any progression taken away on death. Ideal if you don't get heavy or wait to equip TLW till you do.

The levelling thing has basically not changed, yeah. It's just been made more (and less) explicit. I think.

So before, I think they felt they confused people. You get to lvl 20 via XP, then lvl 30 via gear. And no-one understood what had happened, or why they couldn't progress. Now, you get all the way up the levelling chain via XP. But, of course, your Light is still a factor - my lvl40 and your lvl 40 dudes are very different.

What I think they can now hide much more effectively, is when they're under- or over-levelling content relative to you. Here's a lvl41 enemy - how hard does he hit? Who knows. The mission will have a Recommended Light score (as, seemingly, does every individual enemy/attack - given what you see at the top when you die.)

Is the effective cap now 280 for Purples? What's the score on Exotics now? And can you infuse Exotics into Legendaries to boost yourself further?

No, we've had 299 blue weapons and armour drop. 300 appears to be the cap for purples.

Another thing. If you have a load of engrams, don't just mash X / A at the Cryptarch - pop one at a time. If you've got one that has a higher light value, equip that then hand in another engram. It'll get your light level up a lot faster.

Edit - Yep - what Suchuu said.

There's not much point in buying weapons, but I would recommend buying the Vanguard or Crucible Ghost shell as that gives you a nice boost.

Oh and play in fireteams whenever you can. You'll get through a lot of the quest stuff faster. A lot of them dish out Legendary Marks and gear.

Thing is they did talk a lot of bollocks about how they were not satisfied with the light system because it didnt give players an even progression. Even made a joke or two about being forever 28. But they've done the exact same thing. It's weird even. Why make levels irrelevant. Just have the light systen only then. What the fuck does it matter what level the enemies are if you can pay to be 25 and then be 40 in 3 hours.

The light thing is weird in that they haven't really changed the system up, it's still all about light over the XP level cap, which is strange considering how they went on about changing things up.

Having said that, there is now a lot more granularity to the light system than there was before. I believe (and maybe I am wrong on this) that if you were even 1 light off 30 previously you would get be treated as a 29 for the purposes of damage reduction against level 30 enemies. I'm presuming now that with the additional granularity going into a recommended 240 light level with 239 is actually going to only adversely affect you in a very minor way.

On the whole the new content is excellent, the two new strikes I have played (Dreadnaught and Venus) really show that they have taken on board the criticism of the bosses with stupid health bars and instead made them a lot more interesting. The one thing that has annoyed me however is that I've levelled up both Vanguard and FWC and each time I got motes and strange coins, but no gear :(.

Yes

And is there a cap on how many you can have still? Both from how many you can earn in a week and how many you can hold?

you can only hold 200 marks but you can earn as many as you want.

If you can find a way to earn them. You can earn 210 per week from doing the daily story/crucible and another 30 from your first 3 heroic strikes but then it seems the only way to earn them is dismantling stuff.

I wonder what he'll have tomorrow. Are people expecting him to have all Year 2 exotics for sale?

I've got 55 legendary marks just now. By doing the daily stuff up till Sunday I'll have enough to afford a year 2 legendary, I'll probably go for Red Death.

I've been thinking about starting this - I missed the original release, and everyone was doing raids by the time I got it.

I've downloaded the trial to give 2.0 a go, but I have no idea what class to go for. I've started a Hunter and the double-jump and golden gun are nifty but they seem quite frail when doing story missions on normal by myself. Are Warlocks and Titans more resilient/fun?

Also am I right to think that I need to get to level 20+ by myself (unless I can find another Destiny newbie)? Any new players want to team up?

I've found the new ghost voice isn't as good as Dinklage; I never disliked his performance so it's amusing how the new guy doesn't seem like an improvement.

Went on the Vangaurd Streak strike run this morning (make sure you go in with empty slots (load up your vault first to avoid the urge to junk stuff to make space for engrams) and got to the point where 3 blue engrams dropped after each boss death.

Did get a purple drop, but I was downed at the time so think the game was just fucking with me. Thankfully a random revived me just in time to collect it, they got a bow.

Here is a vid of me turning in all the goodies, ranked up old dickface in the process and got my first Year Two Exotic!

I'm hoping he'll have a year 2 armour piece for sale. I bet it's the entirely rubbish Starfire Protocol for Warlocks.

As for you going for Red Death. It is tempting. But I really do love Bad Juju.

Bad Juju isn't a year 2 exotic is it?

I reckon Xur will be selling year 2 stuff, especially if he is also selling a Year 1 Legacy exotic engram.

"Xur still likes strange coins" was the quote from a Bungie employee the other week, though I expect him to like more of them tomorrow with a bit of a price hike with the heavy synth going from 5 to 3 in a pack last week.

He'll have the 3 of coins thing too hopefully.

I know people were going on about the higher level enemies earlier. It will be a problem if they old system is still in place. In other words, there is just a flat damage reduction if an enemy is higher than you.

If things are worked out solely on light, or even attack/defence that would be better. Not seen anyone able to confirm deny one way or another. If say 42 is just a way of showing how much light they have, then fine.

If that is the case, it begs the question of why have the levels there in the first place?

Are the swords one time only per character? If so I'll have to nab the other types on my other characters. Got the solar one last night on my Titan, after opening some chests with the help of my auto rifle with the super radar perk on kills.

Also opened 2 chests that required keys (I've opened the one that kills you using titan bubble, but I also know how to do it legit using an orb that spawns after killing taken) - The one needing "The Scent" and another I had to kill 50 enemies to charge up a key. Didn't get anything good out of the chests, other than calcified fragments.

Really liking the exploration of the Dreadnaught. Those fragments could be anywhere. Supposedly getting them all gets you Oryx;s weapon, whether that's a sword or something else (Touch of Malice?) is unknown atm.
