What's the etiquette for joining people on your friends list whilst they're on patrols or in a daily, I love it when people have dropped in and helped me out.

I'm very hesitant to join others though as I feel I might be intruding.

What do you guys think?

Join away! It helps everyone get shit done faster. If I'm on a patrol and I'm done with bounties, I'll usually quit the fireteam if I'm not on comms.

Please jump in if you ever see me in a fireteam that's not full. When I am playing crucible by myself I sometimes create an open party so people can jump in and tell me to wait in orbit after the match for them to join (as a bone beacon substitute).

Doesn't sound like they were changed, sounds like Bungie didn't know what the actual availability was outside the US from the start and just assumed the US preorder bonuses applied worldwide. It's not like SimplyGames ever advertised having the Suros arsenal, and Game were pretty clear about UK exclusivity.

The ad/press release was quite clear, and it stood that way for many weeks until they did change it, very recently, because people held them to its assurance - they then rewrote it, but too late for the purchasers. Game might have been clear about exclusivity, but DeeJ responded to posts asking about such stated exclusivity by equally clearly stating there was none. It wasn't just the press release, it was his active intervention in 'clarifying' for people who specifically asked about exclusivity: there was none.

Yep, it's likely that whoever posted the initial news wasn't aware of what pre order incentives Activision has set up with retailers worldwide.

Then Bungie should have checked, and, better still, not assured customers pre-purchase there was no such deal. Then when all the coin came in, suddenly checked and found out there was. As far as I'm concerned, they owe everyone who bought that non-exclusive edition on the basis of their assurances and their press release a Suros code. Otherwise they're bad traders. I mean, this is obvious, no?

In other news, there's server maintenance tomorrow at 6pm: https://twitter.com/BungieHelp/status/643101570188513280 - which may require you to log in again after returning to orbit for an activity, and, as expected, a patch (no mention of size): https://www.bungie.net/en/Help

Hope this one doesn't knock a few hundred points off cryptarch rep, like the last one did - or, worse still, add any points onto rep...

Edit: I'm not worried in the least about the weapons, Weavus. I just don't like to support companies who dick people over - or, at least, I don't like to condone their actions when they do so.

Missed this earlier. You probably know this anyway, but the exotics you get from blueprints require level 40 and cost 150 legendary marks to obtain. So yeah, once you're 40 and have the marks available, shard away. Once we're a few days into the game I'd imagine the old 170 attack weapons will be pretty useless anyway compared to the 280 attack of the plain level 40 exotics.

(I'm sure the TTK cap isn't 280 either - because vendor stuff can also be 280, and clearly raid gear is going to be higher levelled than that. The fact that the Year Two versions of Year One exotics start out capped at 280 supports this assumption, because they all have the Infuse node, which allows you to 'consume a more powerful weapon to boost the Attack value of this weapon' (plus an exotic shard which you presumably get from sharding your Year One exotic, plus a nominal further 3 marks). So they must go higher than 280 and have more powerful weapons than 280 available to feed their progress, and unless that's just future-proofing for the next DLC, I expect it's so you can consume duplicate raid/Trials drops in order to raise the light level of your favourite exotic weapons/armour to the same as the raid/Trials pieces - maybe to about 300 or a bit over. And that might help you with the harder version of the raid. Bit of guesswork, but it makes sense to me.)

Cheers Gorf! The vending machine sounds more expensive than I thought, I was under the impression that exotics were 2500 glimmer and one shard, which basically made it exotics-on-demand. If I can dismantle stuff like Invective and Super Good Advice that I never use, but keep the blueprints in case I ever have a nervous breakdown and decide to make Universal Remote my go-to weapon, then that sounded like a pretty good deal. If it's 150 legendary marks, then that sounds a bit too pricey to just run off a new exotic whenever I want one.

Man, I have a bit of time to play tomorrow evening...

And the last patch fucked up all my edged thingies so they better not do it again :o

Worse than Game-gate that one :(

Well, yeah. Someone, somewhere fucked up. It's unlikely they'll be able to sort people out as it'll probably upset the fat cats (who are the only ones benefiting here) and might even cost people their jobs. Yes, it's a shitty situation and I'm in no way defending it. Shitty / shady practices from publishers have been a thing for a long time.

Nah you're looking at page one year two exotics. You need to look at page 2. Press r1 is the new press x again.

Oh aye, reading K's post again I think I misunderstood it - I thought he meant getting rid of Year One exotics and buying the upgraded Year Two ones when he wanted to replace them. Yeah, if you just want to rebuy the old 170 version, a Year One costs only one exotic shard and 2500 glimmer. I just don't see why you'd want to rebuy a Year One version in Year Two anyway (except for regular Crucible, I guess).

I agree. I guess the thing is, if you are not using it you should defo shard away as in the case of a rebalance (if that weapon becomes a crucible must have) you can just quickly get back what you had for 2500 glimmer and a shard (which you would get when you shard the weapon anyway). I have sharded a ton of stuff I just didn't like using. Bad JuJu and Red Death are the only year ones that I would keep at this point. But I agree with K that I also thought you would be able to get year two versions very cheap if you had year one versions and I don't think that's the case at all (at 150 legendary marks a pop).

As much as activision seems anti-consumer you have to give it to them that they are the very best in marketing the shit out of games and getting games to go mainstream. Which in turn does wonders to keep the hobby alive. They are a necessary evil I am afraid.

Nope, I can't agree that misleading customers like this is a necessary part of making games successful or marketing them well. You can provide a great product and great costumer service, and treat your customers with respect, and be just as, if not more, successful.

thing is they've done well for Destiny. The success of Destiny (which is clearly a deeply flawed game and received weirdly mixed reviews) ensures that Bungie can deliver on their original plan to have a 10 year project. Which I really want to see. A lot of great games get hung out to dry by less successful publishers and don't get the success they deserve. This is not to say that I agree with shady practices but I just think the existence of Activision , and the fact that they have been involved in this game, may be ultimately a good thing, despite all of these bollocks. EDIT: I don't know why the fuck I am defending Activision. I guess I was in the mood for an argument.

I have a faction quest to hand in as well as all the sub-class ones on each character, so hopefully they give a decent amount of XP considering they're classed as level 40 quests. That's without bounties and daily reward packages as well that I have. I hope the new subclass unlocks early in the story, as I want to level that up with these rather than my actual level alone.

Yep, CDProjectRed is probably the best example of this, as I'm sure many people already know. Wish more were like them.

There is actually a secret technique to joining that I'll let you in on. Don't just join straight away. You need to study your friends list, see what people are doing. Then, when they least expect it, join their nightfall just as they are about to take down the boss. It helps if you manage to get the only exotic in the run. If this happens, you can almost always be sure that it is the exotic one of the other fireteam members have been trying to get for weeks.

This goes down a treat, you will find your party will start swearing at you in joy. Make sure to tell them they are welcome, I mean you did kill the boss and all that.

I've cashed all mine in, I'm going in to The Taken King bare! I just didn't like having those green exclamation marks everywhere, plus the focussed light should help the levelling up. I actually don't want to hit the new cap after a few days of playing, I want to savour that grind.

I expect the actual grind will be about getting enough light to kill the bigger, badder guys
