Destiny: FIN

Played Rift, control and clash last night, and I think I got shot by Thorn once. And lived and then killed the fecker that shot me. With my Mida Multitool. Which is a beast.

The Defender quest for a strike also sounds like a joke compared to the other classes where you have to spawn 7 orbs per super - get 30 kills *across the entire team* while your bubble is active, then complete the strike. At least that's what it sounds like to me. It doesn't say "inside the bubble/shield" at any rate.

Probably get that on Omnigul at the sniper bit easy.

Again, Omnigul sounds like the best place for that one. The Hive section just before the Omnigul encounter, or even at Omnigul herself - just hammer the adds. Make sure you've got Bastion enabled too.

As for the melee one - Relentless and Unbreakable will make that easier. These quests seem to be designed around fiddling with to your subclass perks and playing in a proper fireteam without cheesing. Use 'em!

I did end up getting a blue warlock bond with more defense than my greatest current legendary. Seems a bit odd that this lame-ass bond is better than my flaming shiny one. Design choice to force you to go from legendaries to blues seems weird to me at this point.

Yeah. I got up to the orbs generating part of the striker, but the defender one is pish in comparison. Well faster due to all the ways to generate orbs a defender has.

Btw, has anyone got the quest from their faction yet? Need to be reputation level 25 (supposedly) to be able to pick it up off one of the 3 factions. Apparently you get the exotic class item from it! I need 1 kill in Crucible (lol) and 10 "heroic" strikes - Wtf are "heroic" strikes? Is that just the level 20 playlist?

You'll be getting class items that level weapons and factions faster soon.

Faction quests aren't available until you're level 25 with that faction, so be careful who you pick if you're running multiple characters.

On the question about Skolas: he's referring to the specific perk and weapon nerfs, not the translation of the old attack numbers to the new ones. The latter, and enemy levels, are said to be 'normalised' just to reassure people that 170 attack isn't less than 365 - it's the same. But the actual nerfs (and buffs) do apply within that general attack number. A nerf is still a nerf, a buff is still a buff, the fundamental things apply as time (6 days and counting) goes by, etc. So if shotguns really do 45% less impact, then they do against everything (in PvE). That includes yellow-bar captains. Some people are saying this is 'fine', some aren't. But either the patch notes are right, or they're wrong. If they're right, it's going to take more shotty blasts to put down a tough mob in PoE, same as anywhere else.

On the matter of PvP, I always considered the planned changes to Thorn would amount to what's almost a buff in unskilled hands - i.e. the increased stacking of the poison on up to 5 body shots. Players with more precise aim might not get the 2-shot headshot kill any more, but yer scrub plugging away less accurately with Thorn might find it actually does more damage - and that post-encounter creeping death might actually seem more vicious and unwarranted to the victim. My prediction: packs of Thorn-wielding scrubs concentrating their fire will wreak havoc on the smaller to mid-range maps. Pigs will copulate with donkeys, blood will rain from the sky. But whatever happens, someone, somewhere, will cry that something is OP and should be nerfed, and something else is broken and needs a buff.

I'm 40 with Dead Orbit on my Titan, which is the only character I've played so far, and have the quest on :P

40 and only got 1 shader and the ship. The shader dropped like 3 times btw....yes the same one

Edit: Apparently Heroic Strikes are weekly strikes, which I believe you can only do one a week and it counts towards all 3 characters. So you really want to run it on the one who has the quest. Unless we can run them multiple times, just getting no reward other than the quest completion. Which I doubt, but who knows

Ignore all that above, I got muddled with Nightfalls  Heroic strikes are the new weekly play-list which doesn't seem to be out yet.

I ran the heroic a second time today (so you can run it multiple times) just so things would be alive long enough to build enough super for several major kills as part of the bladedancer quest.

Yeah but heroic strikes are only available at level 40 and you have to have completed TTK story too. Doesn't bother me as I'm Dead Orbit on my Titan, New Monarchy on my Warlock and FWC on my Hunter anyway, so I should get all the stuff I want from each faction at some point.

So it does take twice as many shots to put the mob down using a shotgun? I can't remember how many shots it used to take in Crota, but I'm sure it was fewer than in your video. Translate that to Skolas' captains, who are a level above you instead of one below.

I'm not disputing that you think it's 'fine' or it 'does the trick' - value judgments to which you're entitled, but value judgments nonetheless - but objectively it appears that the nerf may well be as stated in the patch notes. Which means it is harder to put down enemies. There are a few people here asking about whether Skolas is scaled to take account of that, and some people thinking that's what 'normalised' means. And that's why I'm pointing out that Skolas hasn't been scaled back to account for the decrease to shotgun damage output, and that it will take more shots to put down an enemy in there. Whether that's fine for others probably depends on how hard they found the fight in the first place, and whether they are struggling to get their Moments finished.

Of course, some other weapons have been buffed, damage-wise, so you could argue it's swings and roundabouts.

Shotguns were ridiculous though. You could take down the Hydras on the Archon Priest strike with one Found Verdict clip, for example. It was fun for a bit, sure. But it pretty much removed any kind of challenge. Skolas' Captains will take more, yes. But if you're on that right hand platform with your fireteam and you're paying attention to your radar I still can't see them being much of a problem - you get one captain jumping up there every now and then. You should all be dealing with the adds when they spawn anyway if you want to get it done without too much trouble.

Aye, I get what you're saying - but you're, like, a top-tier, 9-0 Trials, first-week HM Crota-beating player. Not everyone is, and for those who already find Skolas a tough nut to crack, and who are asking about it (and shotguns in general), I'm just answering a question by saying - yes, shotguns have been nerfed and it will be noticeably harder to put down those captains using them, and no, the fight has not been scaled to take that into account.

I should ask you, as I know you're the other one who used to have this problem... since the patch, do you still get increasing lag, and then eventually disconnects, when playing for an extended time in public areas? I suppose it's just as bad as it was, but you never know.

Ha. Thank's for the compliment, but Trials takes as much teamwork as Skolas and the Raids. Teamwork!* I don't seem to be able to edit my previous post, but I'll add that everyone should be paying attention to Skolas' health and dealing with the adds accordingly. Especially when the mines show up. There's no enrage, take your time. It just calls for tighter teamwork and communication than the raids did. I'd argue that pre patch Skolas' was actually verging on impossible if you tried to do it legit. It took one of the popular streamers about 8 hours on Skolas alone.

There are already swankier Emblems for sale in the Tower anyway, to be honest.

As for disconnects - I've not really had that issue for some time. I noticed some weird framerate stuff going on yesterday, but that's probably due to the servers creaking a bit under pressure.

*I went 0 - Thorn/Shot Package/Final Round last weekend a fair few times

After sitting down to read the Edge article on TKK, I'm back on the hype train! I think that with knowing what to expect from Destiny plus knowing about all the upgrades and balances will mean I've got a better chance of getting into it properly.

Is there is a list on Xbone players, and / or one for people getting TKK yet?

I don't think Moz really updates this thread much, so maybe a mod would edit the OP to add lists of XB and PS4 players. But it'd probably be easier to create and maintain a list if you just made a thread in the Destiny folder in Online. In fact, there's already a thread there for XB players in which 22 people have posted. After a while, if people play regularly you get to know who they are anyway, and the occasional players can just be pointed to that folder. If you put a list in this thread it'd just get buried quickly, and similarly a separate thread in Discussion that's just a list of XB players will inevitably sink off page one pretty sharpish, and you'd have more trouble finding it/pointing to it than a list in the dedicated Online folder (or even the thread that's already there).

Had a bit of a go on the new content - love Rift, have lost mostly but we stomped one team to the point of mercy!!

So far I like the new look and UI, hate the new Ghost voice #bringbackdinklebot

Mida is wrecking shit in PvP so a good send off week for it.

Ohhhhhh, I quit a cut scene doing the strangers rifle mission :o

12/10

Hmmm, I just did this mission seemingly for the first time on my warlock and no strangers rifle?

You need to do the quest, rather than just the mission. Go to the incomplete missions terminal in the vanguard hall and pick the black garden quest. It starts you on the Venus level where you first meet the stranger, then work through to the final mission.

I posted in a Xbox thread in the folder, thanks.
