I did a tiger strike last night and it ended up being The Summoning Pits and it was fucking dreadful. Twice I've done it now and both times it's just been a complete mess.

This time, my team mates stood in a corridor near the entrance for the whole time trying to shoot through a tiny gap at Phogoth while I crouched down behind a rock in the corner of the main room.picking off what I could.

What is the fucking point of that?

Yep the randomness is a baffling decision. As Metallicfrodo above says the whole fun of the raid is getting a plan together and working together to put that plan into action. Teleporting people randomly is imo a way to introduce an artificial difficulty level as Bungie are not happy people are completing the raid so fast.

Yeah we were talking about that last night, and can't really understand the decision, having said that though I think it's possible to learn to deal with it.

We did have a discussion about switching roles just so people understood what was going on for the different sets of people. We were playing from the beginning of the warping section with the same set of people doing the same tasks. This actually meant that you couldn't understand what the other 'team' was doing so in some ways it meant your communication about when 'they' should do things wasn't at the point 'they' actually needed to know.

We kind of realised this when doing the templar section, we had three assigned to the left and three to the right. And basically the left was always getting overwhelmed, and the people on the right were wondering what was going on. Then the question was 'is the map asymetric' was asked. And we on the left are, well we can have the enemies coming from center back, or the left, or the centre middle, and the right side are like..... erm we have them coming from just a single point at the back. At that point we rebalanced and it made things a lot eaiser.

So unfortunately the Xbone Raiders had to leave Atheon standing last night as it was getting late. It did all begin to get a bit Monty Python with seemingly everyone trying to out-do each other with how early they had to get up in the morning! '7am, you don't even know your born. I have to get up a 5am, milk the cows, feed the dog, run a marathon, then go to work in the mines.......'

Anyway for what it's worth here are my overall impressions of the Raid as a concept and then playing the Raid with the people I did.

The Raid is just utterly brilliant, fantastically well designed and full of really great ideas. You are forced not only to work as a team but to actually think. There isn't really ever an option to find the place the adds won't enter (as there is in the Strikes) and slowly take everything out. You first have to work out the mechanics of each encounter (which in itself can be a real challenge) and then put a plan together where pretty much everyone has to know what they are doing and stick to it. It's just amazing how over time you can go from having no idea what to do in a section, to working it out but thinking this is going to be impossible to co-ordinate or just seems unfair, to nailing it as everyone does their job.

Playing with other people with a similair mind set then just raises all that finely honed design to a new level. I seriously haven't had this much fun with a game in years and years (probably since playing Halo 2 multiplayer with some of the same people). In between all the seriousness of trying to work out and co-ordinate there was plently of time for laughing and joking, Panda failing to make the first jump in the Raid, pushing krypt (I think) to the very edge of the platform before the templar when he was away, people 'wacking' themselves off in confinment shields, Mr Do swearing his head off as he got lost in the dark trying to get out of the Templar section. Also in the templar section everyone stood around staring at the relic not wanting to be the one to have the responsibility of picking it up.

But top props go to the random who helped us with defending the plates at the very beginning of the Raid. After we cleared it he stood by the entrance and waved us off. I like to imagine he is still there helping other travellers on the first part of their journey.

I can't wait to actually complete this Raid and to be honest am now really excited by what Bungie will come up with next. It's just taken a game I already really liked a lot and pushed it to a completely new level.

Argh! I need to get involved in this!

I'm 26 right now, do-able?

You should have danced in the doorway so they couldn't see through it.

That is the minimum for the raid, but you should be okay. I think it's been said before but it's more about the weapons you have than necessarily being a higher level, (although from a damage you take perspective it can obviously help).

We were all generally 27 or 28.

Especially brilliant if both teammates then get killed there standing so close to each other from a blast or the enemies that spawn behind leaving you high and dry.

Gonna grab a spot of lunch, then I'll be around for a few hours this avvy if anyone wants a go at the weekly heroic or nightfall.

Should be around after 2 to join you for that.

I wonder if they're a bit embarrassed about all their pre-launch Raid difficulty hyperbole. 'We got in the best players in the world and after 800 hours they hadn't even managed to open the front door!!!' Then a week after the Raid is released people have managed to get it down to 45 minute runthroughs.

I wonder what they'll introduce when people adapt to this? 'Our vision of the Raid was always that your controls randomly reverse during the course of every stage and we're introducing this in the next hotfix'

Did both Nightfall and Weekly 28 this morning with Banjaxed & Capp_

Nightfall was trickier due to the arc damage making the Knights 1 shot death machines. Much harder overall than last weeks I think. Pack plenty of Arc heat and stay in a group for revives. We found staying in the room before the boss the best strategy, going out was a recipe for death and panic.

That was a lot of fun... and as you say it was a nice challenge!

Captain LeChuck: I grabbed a brief bit of footage from the nightfall of the Red Hand IX in action showing the sort of damage figures it's doing against lvl 28s, including a hallowed knight. Still not sure why your very similar HC isn't doing similar.

We had one time that it totally glitched out for us. And a couple of times the teleport back glitched but apart from that in about 3 hours of play we didn't really have any issues, apart from our own ineptitude.

Yeah, but we're playing it over Xbox Live.

It was great fun as well for me. Getting teleported and people shouting at me to shoot the oracles, when I had no clue what an oracle was, and me complaining that it had fucked up my primary weapon when I had my heavy selected were particular highlights!

I can't wait to attempt it again from the beginning this time.

In other news, the raid was pretty buggy and frustrating last night, again:

Entire portal team unable to pick up relics.

Not getting teleported back to where we came from.

Occasionally getting 2 team members teleported, instead of 3.

Relic shield magically switching itself off as we tried to hammer Atheon.

Losing a rocket with each respawn.

Now with more added randomness with today's update :(

Not forgetting oracles spawning and not making chimes.

Definitely the BS shield dropping midway was the worst offender last night.

There were a few times where there was a decent run and then the shield would just inexplicably fail at the 3rd/ 4th cycle or just not stopping the blasts from Atheon.
