That still doesn't explain anything. Someone could easily be level 25 but only have time to do 1 or 2 bounties a day, and therefore, only rank 1 or 2.

Getting to level 25 takes a serious time investment, and bounties are available from lvl 6 I think (might be wrong). I was rank 4 or 5 before I hit level 20.

Make the first thing you do every day going to the tower and picking up bounties. Maximise by combining bounties together. You could do all of these in a single run:

Kill Sepiks Prime

Kill 20 enemies without taking damage

Melee 30 enemies

Get 9000 XP without dying

Kill 10 Fallen majors

That's like... 400 and something rep in about 20-30 minutes.

You're definitely in the minority there buddy, most people are struggling to hit rank 3 even at level 25+, and doing a selection of bounties every day.

You see, this is kind of my problem with Destiny. I haven’t played any MMOs, but the structure reminds me of the way F2P games work - where you have to log on daily to accumulate manna or coins or gems or whatever, and that structure dictates what you do, rather than traditional concerns, like whether you want to play level 3 or level 4.

With F2P stuff, that structure gives the game – which often has little or no value in itself, i.e. Godus or Tiny Tower – a compulsion to actually play and a reward for having logged in and completed a few tasks. When you’ve got a game that isn’t just watching progress bars or clicking on purple dots, it seems a bit weird because it feels like that structure is dictating what you do, rather than, say, what you want to do dictating what you do. It’s like the game’s playing me, and I can feel myself getting to that iOS f2P point where I just get sick of the grind and put the game aside on that basis, rather than put it aside because I’ve completed it on the hardest difficulty.

I’ve found myself thinking “well, I could do a story mission… but I won’t get any rep for that. Fuck it, I’ll do that strike again” which is no way for a grown man to behave. All this stuff about the critical path for completing daily bounties sounds more like project management than fun.

So looking at the bounties for today, you should pick these up:

Walking Tall

All in the head

Body dropper

Go and do an easy strike and play defensively, you'll get the first one by not dying and the second two by naturally playing. If you want to cheese it, do it in a fireteam and drop out and rejoin when you die. ^_^

Then go pick up:

Target: Sardok yadda yadda

Do this one and you'll mop up "all in the head" and "body dropped" if you haven't already.

The whole thing should take 40 mins, at the end of it you'll have 350 rep.

Pick up the patrol cosmodrome one and save it for tomorrow, then you can combine it with the "get 100 headshots" style combat ones. Or you could do it today if you want to maximise your possible daily rep. You'll get at least 50 rep by doing the patrols, so another 15 mins of patrolling will net you 450 rep in total. Combine that with hunting for helium filaments or chests for the next time you need some.

You should give the project management approach (as you out it) a shit thought. I'm still finding the game incredibly satisfying to play. I'm hopelessly addicted.

I don't know what this means, but it sounds horrific. I'm enjoying Destiny as well, I'm just a bit stressed out by the compulsion to do little tasks and to earn loads of different currencies - the game's psychological tricks to keep me addicted seem a bit too overt.

Seeing as we're off on one about Bounties, you know what fucks me off? The Event Bounties that require you to be Rank 2 so you can use the class item. Which thundering bellend thought that putting literally useless bounties in at the beginning would be a good idea?

Rank 2 is 1200 rep, not that hard to pull off in a couple of days. I did it in 2 because I play too much crucible, mainly as its the only bloody way to get marks for the gear I want.

Seriously, who thought it was a brilliant idea to have the factions tied to Crucible marks? The rep is obtainable from strikes, bounties and patrol missions, so there's no bloody excuse to not have vanguard marks be an alternative currency for the factions

Also the faction gear > vanguard/crucible gear. Seriously, go look at it, then compare it to the vanguard/crucible items. You will be surprised. Far better stats, far better bonus' on armour. Light is no better, but you can tailor your armour to suit your playstyle far better with the 3 factions gear.

As an example, I've got mostly New Monarchy armour because its all strength and intellect, the best stats for the way I play (super+melee). FWC is Discipline+Intellect I believe, and Dead Orbit is Strength+Discipline.

Just go for vanguard, the rest are bullshit or time consuming. Except maybe the easy queens bounty legendaries. Pretty sure I'm rank 0 with everything else.

If you're level 25 you don't need the vanguard gear to be honest, get to 26 and hit the raid.

Nah, I found Crucible has plenty that are easy to do as well. Kill 25 of each class; kill 10 Guardians from behind; get 50 assists; get 10 Control captures; play 5 of a certain game type... all adds up. I was a level 2 Crucible before anything else, just by playing the game. Didn't have to go out of my way to do anything, unlike the Vanguard bounties.

There are only 5 or 6 bounties a day Takizawa. No amount of playing lots will increase the available bounties.

It's actually about playing as little as possible, as in carrying out your tasks and achieving your goals as efficiently as you can. Sure you could do hundreds and hundreds of strikes or patrol missions for 10 rep a time but that way lies madness and RSI.

ICECOLD, yeah I agree. Some of the crucible bounties are really easy/quick too. Depends if you're in the mood for them :)

A general tip is not to walk around with a load of exotic bounties, they take up slots you could be using to maximise rep.

I always take suitable bounties for what I'm planning to do, but I sure as hell won't take grind like "shoot 500 Dregs in the nutsack" or "Patrol the easy-peasy Cosmodrome for an hour" just for the rep.

Also, the last few days I've been spending upwards of an hour trying to beat the daily mission on level 28. You know, like Halo-players might set the game to legendary to give themselves the ultimate challenge. I've not yet managed it, so every evening that's an hour of Destiny time with nothing to show for it!

I do think it was a mistake committing to a faction though due to the aforementioned currency issue. I've only just hit 2 though - need to press on to 3 to get their shotgun I guess.

No that's not the part I take issue with, it's that these magical synergies of bounties don't just happen every day. Nor can you just expect to not die doing a strike, or automatically achieve 100 headshots doing one (there's only a certain amount of things to kill and you'll be playing with others), and wrap it all up in 15 minutes.

People aren't not getting their vanguard rep up because they're not "stacking bounties efficiently", they probably just aren't logging in every day, or they're choosing to do other activities that don't give vanguard rep.

The synergies don't always happen.

However, I did the 100 headshots + 100 bodies earlier today in around 15 mins. Best place is still around the original loot cave — you get a set of fallen spawing fast up the hill and then hive come right after; it loops so very easy to rack the kills up.

One per session.

I try to max out all of my Vanguard and Crucible bounties each day. I reckon I do at least four of each on average a day, playing at least five days a week. And even then it took me a good three week's grind to get up from just past level one to level three on each.

The VIP missions are, anyway. They give 25 rep. The others give 10.

Posted this guide earlier but it's worth a re-post: http://destinynews.net/guide-to-destinys-patrol/

I never see any of the vip patrol missions when out and about, am I missing something or is it just like one per session on the whole planet?

I know what you mean now, was getting confused! I'd read it as the vip bits were missions you could pick up from the green mission spots not the incoming event bits. Thanks.

Still think it takes ages to rank up, especially if you can only manage an hour or so every night or so. Just have to keep plugging away.

Just got the God of War shader from levelling up the cryptarch - Probably trying to tell me I play too much Crucible

Annoyingly I got a legendary special weapon drop before that.......that turned into 2 ascendant energy :hmm:

Its like I was trolled and he saw how upset I was and gave me a consolation prize.

Also got a cool silver armour shader the other day from him too, makes me look a bit like a knight in armour.

The picture for the silver one doesn't do it justice as its far too dark. It's quite shiny out in the world.

No, you were right - VIP missions are just a type of mission you pick up from the green markers. They're the ones with a star icon:

They're not in every area though, so you might have to fly around a bit before you spot one.

Does Iron Banner give you anything useful over regular crucible other than Iron Banner rep? Like, more crucible marks than normal?

Also, can I redirect the rep to a faction by wearing their item? It sounds like Iron Banner gives good rep.

Iron Banner only gives rep for wins, unless you do bounties which work as normal but only in IB matches. The only things worth getting from IB for me at present are the emblem and shader at rank 3, and the possibility of getting weapons and the legendary ship to drop after each match, which so far I have seen zero sign of (no other players have ever won a legendary anything during a match that I've seen). You do get Crucible rep and marks per game on top of any IB rep/items though.

You can wear any faction item to get rep for them, but you will only get rep for them and no other faction as a result, even during bounty turn ins. So un-equip it if you want rep for anything else.

Here's what the legendary ship looks like btw (I don't have it unfortunately, or fortunately as I don't really like the look of it :P)
