You get Vanguard Points for each Patrol mission, as well as for the bounty when you turn it in at the end.

The trick becomes picking bounties you can stack, and doing them on Patrol missions that also maximise Vanguard Points per time invested.

In a nutshell, for Vanguard Points...

  • Take out the "Do 6 patrols on [specific planet]" bounty along with other bounties that ask you to kill enemies on the same planet - so you're doing multiple bounties at once.
  • Look primarily for the "VIP" Patrol missions (star icon) - these give 25 Vanguard Points per completion, where the others give 10.
  • Other quick patrol missions are the "kill everything" ones (diamond shape with four triangles) and item missions - which basically also involve killing things (triangle icon).
  • Avoid the "scan" missions (ghost icon) and "survey" missions (compass icon) - these take the longest.

So say you take out "6 Patrols in the Cosmodrome" (50 rep) along with "Kill 100 fallen with precision shots" (100 rep), "Kill 30 enemies with melee attacks" (50 rep), and "Get 9000 experience without dying" (50 rep). Do those on Patrol with 2 VIP missions (25 rep each), 2 kill missions (10 rep each), and 2 item missions (10 rep each)...

Total for all that lot weighs in at 340 Vanguard Points for about an hour or two's adventuring. If I've got my mission rewards right. (And more if you do more VIP missions and add a fifth bounty too). Handy!

Thanks for this post. I had no idea the icons represented different mission types.

I'm not actually level 26 incidentally, I equipped the raid gear I got for the photo and my level dropped from 28 to 26!

I then dismantled my beautiful beautiful raid chestpice because the ugly exotic I have (heart of praxic fire) is better and fully levelled up. :(

When it comes to things like that I've aimed to have a spare levelled Legendary for each piece of armour just in case Xür appears with a decent Exotic for that slot. Then I can swap out armour depending on what I want to spec for.

We got you to the oracle stage of the first boss, you should know what to do next time now on that part

Bloody connection dropped off, posting this from 4g

It's been a long time since an hour has vanished as fast as it did on that spare of the moment raid. Thanks for the invite guys!

Big thanks to everyone who helped with our impromptu Raid attempt tonight. :)

yeah thanks to everyone in the raid, was good fun! Mike's raid knowledge really helped :)

After a few days of very little progress I ended tonight's session with:

Legendary Hand Cannon - From legendary engram drop

Legendary Shotgun - From Legendary Engram given for leveling Crypt to Lvl 5

Legendary Boots and Gloves - purchased with Vangard Marks after finally hitting Rank 2

Reaching Lvl 26

Getting my 13th strange coin all ready for Xur at the weekend

.. Safe to say the patch came along at the perfect time. Knowing you are actually going to get a purple from a purple engram really makes all the difference.

Not looking forward to upgrading that little lot though.

Wavy and I got the other raid team past the oracle / templar tonight. Well played folks!

I was pretty awful, not sure why, jumped in to Crucible and got smashed in there for half a round before pulling it back calling it a night.

Completed the raid last night, amassed 2 pieces of raid gear, a white shader & an insane viod A/R with a 70 clip and 650 reserve. Fuck me this gun is immense. Also bagged a fair few shards.

Levellibg up another character just now to 20 for maximum coins and another shot at the raid. Figured if I levelled up another titan I could take him to Lvl 29 from 20 almost instantaneously.

Had a couple of good games with BillyBrown last night. The first strike was the one on Venus with the big dude with the shotgun at the end (think this was a level 22 or so?). We got there as a 3 but then the other guy dropped out which meant a frantic fight against the boss with just two of us trying to stay alive. Managed it and got some decent bits off the back of it though. Very satisfying.

Subsequent strike on Mars I died a lot but finished the night on 25 with some relic iron to farm for later.

Defence stats are strong but I don't seem to have the weapons to match quite yet. Vanguard rank is still very low despite doing lots of bounties. Hopefully a purple drop and a nice legendary primary will happen soon (no chance!).

Many thanks to Krypt and Gamepaused last night. Thanks to them I finally completed a Queen's Bounty AND the Weekly Strike, netting me my first Legendary item and enough extra coins to buy some treats from Xur at the weekend. After a long wait between level 23-24 (for some reason), I seem to be really picking up the pace now.

Still can't get enough of this game. It's invading my thoughts all day long!

Good games!

Think we nearly have enough peeps for an XO raid attempt!

We tried the weekly strike last night on level 26 (we're all 25) and it was super-nails. With some close co-ordination we managed to fight through the gruelling open air bit with the multiple, rocket-firing and shielded Centurions, but we just couldn't whittle down the massive boss guy before we all died. He definitely had the biggest health bar I've yet seen. We survived for a good 20 minutes fending off minions and getting some sniper shots in on the boss, but alas we all went down in a blaze of glory eventually. I think we only got a third of his health off.
