Destiny: FIN

The single (surely simple) thing that would add so much replay value for me is to keep the same spawn locations, but to just spawn a random selection of aliens each time that just add up to the same XP value.

So, on your typical Cosmodrome spawn point, just pick a random selection of Captains, Shanks, Vandals and Dregs that adds up to "200 XP's worth" or whatever. Then just keep randomising them. So 2 Captains this time, 1 Cap and 3 vandals next time, then 2 vandals and 4 dregs, or maybe just 10 Shanks. Whatever. It's the same points total, but at least there is some variety in the shooting and behaviours. Must be the easiest thing in the world to implement.*

* I know nothing about game design. But I reckon I know more than Bungie about what makes a game fun for me.

The problem I'm having at level 27 is shortage of harvestable materials. You can do patrol missions on the planets to get them, but as far as I can see you can't adjust the difficulty level for them, so you run around shooting a lot of boring weak enemies until you find a chest/glowing flower etc.

I don't think you can directly correlate the amount of time you've spent playing something with how much content it actually offers, I mean I'm assuming that you've spent a fair amount of that time in the Crucible but otherwise you're saying you've spent roughly 10+ hours on three levels, killing three sets of enemies, who (mission dependent) always appear in exactly the same places. That's not a lot of content, that's a handful of content that you've been going over again and again, by way of design.

Structurally I think Destiny's campaign actually has a lot in common with EDF, although hilariously EDF actually offers more variety because they're not afraid to properly mix things up over a hundred different ways within their handful of scenarios. It's even got more varied loot! 80% of Destiny's content consists of a single, identical mission repeated 24 times.

Fair enough, I'll take that, you make some good points that I certainly can't argue with.

But I would still say that each planet has a couple of hours of unique content which equates to around the same as an average single player FPS these days. Add on the Crucible and I honestly still think it's a fine amount of content. I don't mind admitting that I'd hoped it would be a much bigger epic, but I certainly don't think it's lighter on content than it should be.

The materials stuff is definitely weak. You can do pretty efficient farming loops for materials and chests, and pretty much ignore all the bad guys though.

Or grab a few bounties, pick up a few easy patrol missions, and complete the public events when they occur for ascendant materials too.

Google loot farm runs As there's chest and material runs you can do that net you loads in about 30mins to an hour. Yes it's still a bit boring but over quickly.

Ascendant shards though. They take ages of play to get hold off

I just hit Lvl 20 (Hunter) last night and have mostly been playing solo apart from a couple of strikes and joining up with randoms now and again during patrols and story missions. I'm not really sure about how I progress now that I've hit 20 (i know a little bit about the light stuff and vanguard marks etc, but not in any detail).

I'm hoping to send a few friend requests out to the Xbox One guys in here for playing onwards, if thats OK with you all? I'll be doing it later today (I'm multiClunk :) ) it would be great if some of you could accept them. This is the first time in a long time that I've got into a shooter and I'm a pretty mediocre - average player (I can get a bit of a flap on when things get hectic and am hopeless in PvP) but really do love playing Destiny.

Hope to be back on later, around 8pm. Would love to join up with some of you.

Added :)

Buzbybill - you're blue william yes?

The thing is that's daft though is the amount of materials, doing loops of 'runs' for chests and spawning item things is dull as shit, why can't I buy an item which switches the glimmer drops to half that in the material or some nonsense? For one legendary armour I need 52 relic iron bits. At my normal rate of collection that is ridiculously long. I'd even do hard patrol missions for a box of ten at the end or what have you.

I know it's meant to increase longevity but with the already mentioned same spawns every time it does get a bit too grind-y to be fun.

EDIT: I will admit that I did find a 'blue' ship blueprint doing a bit of the spinmetal loot run from that vid in the last page but I started feeling bad as it's on a strike and the other randoms I was with got cracking with the strike. I only got 6 in the end but the ship (although pointless, ho-hum) does look quite cool.

The PSN credit is out of stock now unfortunately. Before I logged in it showed as available. Bummer.

I'm quite sure they will restock before December :D.

People need to get in Crucible, its chaos, everything is over powered and unbalanced so ends up balanced. Just jump in control and run with at least one other person. Salvage is brilliant why is it locked except every 3rd weekend?
