The one thing I don't really get is glimmer. I have more of it than I know what to do with. Yet literally every other resource and currency is really hard to come by, and yet they are mostly what you need to do things. This is compounded even more by the fact that you have the resource packs that increase the amount of glimmer enemies drop, and that the grimoire progress allows this to spread to fireteam mates as well.

It's like there was supposed to be something it was actually useful for, but it's been removed. What I would give for being able to buy other resources (helium filaments, relic iron and sapphire) with it.

Every upgrade costs Glimmer doesn't? I've usually spent all of mine after I'm done upgrading in the tower.

If you have spare, buy cheap guns and armour from the vendors and dismantle them into materials. Surely you need gun parts and armour materials for your upgrades?

Well yes, but not much glimmer. Hmmm, you are right about the armour materials, I am low on saphire wire, although it's mainly the resources from the planets that are screwing me over (well and eventually ascendent shards, but I can even get to that bit on the upgrade tree due to the other resources).

I'm waiting for the famers market to roll into the Tower, where Old McDonald from Mars will sell me relic iron for glimmer ;)

I always buy ammo packs when I hit the glimmer wall.

In 38 hours of play I've never even bothered to use the ones I have! Must be doing something wrong.

This.

Also, glimmer lets you buy things from the Cryptarch, which I'm guessing also contributes to your Cryptarch rank. And every level up you get with him will also get you something shiny from the postmaster - like a legendary engram or an ascendant material. All adds up!

I spend all mine on upgrades and stocking up heavy ammo packs. We did a Queens story mission last night and I swear there was not a single purple ammo drop the whole time.

I need to sit down tonight and figure out exactly what Materials I need. All I know is that helium and the green glowing stuff is so much easier to spot from distance it tends to accumulate much more quickly.

Actually the engram bit is a really good point! Okay I knew there had to be some use for it. Seems there is I just hadn't cottoned on.

I'm trying to avoid increasing my Cryptarch rank at the moment, until the patch is out though. I have a message from going from 4 to 5 that I haven't picked up yet. I hope that the package contents won't be downgraded to blue when the patch hits (which they definietly will be if I pick it up now).

Up for this Spinmetal run tonight Guru? Shouldn't take long mooching round the Rocketyards. There's a loot cave there too, and a bunch of hive enemies spawning on a super-short timer.

So just started this. Do I take it from level 4 you really want to be teaming up. How best can I get in on levels with Randoms of a similar level to me on story mode?

Also. At the moment I have my fire team set to friends only however it says X is near at times and I see somebody in my game clearly not doing the same thing as me. Why is that? What's the best way to really get into the MP side? I am a noob at the MMO side of things. :(

You can team up, it's certainly a lot of fun, but you can easily get through the story on your own.

Got Bad Juju last night from an exotic bounty. Needed to kill a load of people in the Crucible for the last part, previous parts were to do a butt load of strikes. Its supposedly one of the worse exotics at the moment, so much so that Bungie said they'll probably buff it. It looks cool though, and has a glowing green flame effect on the skull. Mine does not have void damage btw, just kinetic.

Currently have a massive load of blues to decrypt ready for when the patch hits so my cryptarch level will go up a few times and hopefully get a few legendaries in the rep level up pack things. Might be an idea if everyone saves their blues to do the same.

Does anybody want to team up tonight? I'm a noob and level 3. Just started the 3rd story mission. Surely the whole point is to do it mostly in a group?

Or is that for stuff outside the story mode? Sorry for the stupid questions.

Ah. Is the team up MP mainly for strike missions?

I really don't get this idea that Destiny is somehow light on content. I hit Level 24 last night, have played over 34 hours, and I haven't even done the first Mars mission yet. That's already over double the amount of time I would spend playing a game of the same price. I imagine by the time I'm done with it you could probably double that play time, and that's without any sort of paid for DLC.

I don't think you can directly correlate the amount of time you've spent playing something with how much content it actually offers, I mean I'm assuming that you've spent a fair amount of that time in the Crucible but otherwise you're saying you've spent roughly 10+ hours on three levels, killing three sets of enemies, who (mission dependent) always appear in exactly the same places. That's not a lot of content, that's a handful of content that you've been going over again and again, by way of design.

Structurally I think Destiny's campaign actually has a lot in common with EDF, although hilariously EDF actually offers more variety because they're not afraid to properly mix things up over a hundred different ways within their handful of scenarios. It's even got more varied loot! 80% of Destiny's content consists of a single, identical mission repeated 24 times.

Got the bounty for Thorn to do. Am at the Crucible stage where I need 500 points from killing people with void damage, which is hard as hell when all you have for void damage is a super short range shotgun, a sniper that zooms so far you can see the enemies eyeball, and a machine gun. Cue running for heavy ammo every time it spawns, and trying not to die, as dying minus' off that 500 points :omg:

Not sure if Warlock's get it easier with their void damage super or not, but it probably counts.

The spawn points are really my biggest bugbear with this, fair enough the levels are the same as it's a planet whatever but if they randomised where the enemies came from it would not make it seem like such a grind.

It really does have quite a lot of seemingly obvious and easy to fix flaws but the actually gameplay is still a lot of fun. I wonder if they're surprised by how much people have played it already or how it's been played. If it was a more roaming friendly game (or intended to be at one point) the materials wouldn't be so imbalanced possibly. The fact that I had no idea I'd ever need spirit bloom etc meant that I totally stopped collecting it as it seemed pointless. Now I'm fucked.

It needs more random stuff going on in the world for you to care or encourage you to explore too. It's almost too much of an RPG on the levelling up and item/ loot stuff but without any of it in the actual game. I know it's what EDGE said about Doom in essence but it would be nice if there was some NPC type stuff in the map IMHO.

I'm still going to play it right now anyway though... Destiny 2 could be really brilliant though :)

Finally played a few levels on mars (level 22 Warlock), and am slightly disappointed by the cabal. I've been bumping up the difficulty to match my level, but they're not a patch on the Vex, which I love, love, love fighting. Do they get better?

The small things that run around become a right pain at the highest difficulties (due to the mass of them and their extra bastard shields), but they're mostly still quite easy.

I just hit Lvl 20 (Hunter) last night and have mostly been playing solo apart from a couple of strikes and joining up with randoms now and again during patrols and story missions. I'm not really sure about how I progress now that I've hit 20 (i know a little bit about the light stuff and vanguard marks etc, but not in any detail).

I'm hoping to send a few friend requests out to the Xbox One guys in here for playing onwards, if thats OK with you all? I'll be doing it later today (I'm multiClunk :) ) it would be great if some of you could accept them. This is the first time in a long time that I've got into a shooter and I'm a pretty mediocre - average player (I can get a bit of a flap on when things get hectic and am hopeless in PvP) but really do love playing Destiny.

Hope to be back on later, around 8pm. Would love to join up with some of you.

Cdkeys.com have the season pass for £32.99 with 5% off if its you're first order by liking them on Facebook. Not seen it anywhere else bar PSN.

Edit; actually it works out better value to get £35 PSN credit for £30.99 with 5% off and use that to buy the DLC from PSN

The PSN credit is out of stock now unfortunately. Before I logged in it showed as available. Bummer.
