Why never mention it again?

Do they have links to this stuff? Not sure about bullet sponge bosses being a bug though, sounds weird.

Bungie have posted that the bullet sponge bosses aren't meant to be quite such bullet sponges: I suppose once you get hundreds of thousands of players you get data that may misalign with how quickly your QA team were taking them down.

I guess if you level up the cryptarch its best to leave the mail items there until next week, for obvious reasons. Unless they vanish if left in the mail, I've never tested that though.

Not a great idea! The last note says that any existing legendary engrams will turn into blue engrams when the patch is out.

Essentially it points to a bunch of pre release information from both Bungie & other sources where claims were made about their vision for the game in terms of story and loot gathering that are polar opposites of what was released to retail.

It points to evidence that the game was in a finished state and that the delay appears to have been used to chop out large sections of story in order to release them as premium priced expansion packs.

The game's bullet sponge bosses are in fact a bug and were never intended to be fought for the lengths of time required and the repetitiveness and lack of story is a direct result of major Activision interference aimed at maximising revenue.

I'll never mention it again but I thought it's an interesting take on what was hyped and what was released.

Two words:

focus groups.

With respect to "large chunks of story": there seems to be at least as many story missions as one and a half halo games, and adding in the strikes while ignoring a few tiny story missions..., I don't think I'm feeling short changed for my £40 from Amazon?

Also, how much of the story originally cited is intended to be over the ten year span?

Great fun last night doing the weekly. First go with PS4rud and someone whose name I missed. But the lack of comms made that a tall order, but we came damn close. Second attempt a little later with comms with Banjaxed and Shankshot4. Did that the snipey way, and two L27 warlocks and my L26 warlock did it on L28. Was a fun slog! Solar Specials for the Win!

This game etc.

I'm gonna get negged to Oblivion for this. Was this game released completely broken and in nothing like the intended form due to massive interference from Activision ?

Could it have been much better if the original story and vision was adhered to ?

I know none of you wants to hear this as you are all having a great time with the game and nobody wants to admit being taken for a mug but it sure seems like Bungie are not in control of this project.

I think the biggest mug is that guy saying he's played the same wrath mission over and over again for three days, and now moaning about it. Loads of content to mix it up.

I'll start the negs off - it's not broken and I'm not a mug for enjoying a game with countless others.

Perhaps we're mugs for liking Halo too, as that wasn't the game originally envisioned by Bungie before Microsoft took over, you know, and repeated levels. Mugs the lot of us.

I am surprised you're having so many consistent problems, APM. It's been essentially rock solid for me, I think I've been disconnected maybe three times over 30 hours play. And all three times, I dropped straight back in, and lost very little progress, and kept any loot/XP I'd earned.

Had a bit of a run last night. I got given an exotic rocket launcher in the crucible. Then I did the weekly to get three coins, and for some reason when i'd finished the cryptach became generous to the point of incontinence and gave me two more coins. So it was off to see Xin and get an exotic helmet, which when upgraded will let me use my radar while looking down the sights. This is going to be practically cheating in the crucible but that's just as well because getting to rank 3 is going to be a bit of a slog.

So now I'm up to 26 but face a grind for materials to go higher. I don't want to try the strike until I have some legendary weapons and get to 27.

It really seems nutty that it isn't easier to switch between weapons in game, particilarly when you get to the enemies with all the different shield types. Similarly, having finally learnt to take ammo synthesis into a mission to wrap things up quickly it sad how hard it is to access. The game should be more dynamic than it is. So that if you find yourself backed into a corner you can quickly change your heavy weapon, generate some ammo, and shoot your way out. Instead you often seem to end up bunny hopping around a boss fight with a millimetre of health left looking for a crevice to hide in so you can dick about in the character screen.

If bungie could lose some of the rpg clunkiness the game would be even better.

Sorry was a no show last night. The wife decided we had to drink wine and talk and stuff.

Anyway, I'd love to team up for some queens bounty strikes tonight if possible? Would be nice to get myself some legendary gear before I go away for a week.

I'm on the brink of lvl 24 now so should be a useful team mate.

Had my first go with vita remote play last night too. Bloody awkward to pull off headshots with its sticks, and sprinting became a chore as reliably hitting L3 was a mare, but worked absolutely fine overall for some relaxed helium farming along Archer's Line. And, you know, Destiny in the palm of your hand!

It's annoying to be booted when you're nearing the end of a mission and have to do it all over again. Last night, I had just picked up the sword at the end of the third mission on the moon and was twatting thralls and shit all over the place when it booted me. I really like the gameplay in the game - it's Bungie combat so what's not to like - but my faith in being able to progress through the missions is being severely dented by the bootings. I just don't understand, when there were no other players around me, it can't just let me continue to the end of the mission if it drops offline. I just don't get it. It's not like it'c calculating what I'm doing server side.

I might just wire my PS4 up and try it that way instead of wireless. See if that helps.

I can see both sides of the coin on this & while it has only been two and a half weeks I admit that I have binged on it. I've got two characters to 22 but I'm finding it hard to push on & keep playing at the moment. I totally get the criticisms.

The possibility of a decent single player aspect has been extremely pared down to overly-accommodate the, at this stage, disappointing multi-player aspect. The 3 player limit coop also makes no sense, and not being able to group up two 3-player fireteams on a planet patrol is just stupid. Give us 6 player strikes & 6 player patrols so that this, in Bungie's words, socially interactive game can be used to allow us to be socially interactive.

For a game so concerned with grasping at the MMO vines, the loot drops & conversion rates are far too low & inconsistent. The overbearing requirement of Bungie's template to constantly grind is extremely boring, unsatisfying & in the main unrewarding, moreso for the casual player who doesn't have the time, or the wont, to farm cave exploits for hours on end.

The soft level cap to full level cap is also a poor move. You can race up to 20 in matter of hours but then it becomes a bore to progress due to a) the lack & inconsistent nature of loot drops to give you the things you need to progress from Lvl 20 to 30 and b) the time required to grind through a mission with poorly designed bullet sponge bosses. I understand that XP after Lvl 20 converts to Light Motes & goes towards skill tree unlocks, but for a game pre-disposed of numbers there are none visible after Lvl 20. Why they didn't just have an easy to understand levelling system which moves from Lvl 0 to Lvl 100 & unlocks tree skills only, with an additional Light Lvl bar that unlocks as your basic stats increase, baffles me. The system they have confuses casual & experienced players alike because it's totally convoluted for no good reason I can determine.

The competitive P2P multiplayer invokes the bad memories of all Halo & early COD games. It boils down to poor matchmaking algorithms which lead to a) lag & latency issues as it tries to match people from around the world rather than locality matching, b) players who have unlocked a shedload more character perks being pitted against others who haven't due to poor skill matching and c) certain weapon classes being more than useless irrespective of rarity or weapon perks unlocked. Weapons can be adjusted & matchmaking algorithms can be too, however unless they move onto dedicated localised servers the P2P will turn people away rather than entice them.

However, with all that being said & done, its not a bad game by any stretch. It's got massive potential & it's certainly more than a 6/10 game. But until Bungie fully decide what they actually want it to be & make it both workable AND fun, it's going to be a major disappointment for those expecting the next stage of Bungie greatness, all IMO obviously.

Well I finally got to crucible level 2 and got fully decked out in teh purples, then looked at the amount of spinmetal and shit I'd need to get to 30, and honestly don't know if I can be arsed anymore. We're getting in to silly season now for games, and I'm well up for that Mordor game, so Destiny, you were fun mate, but now you're getting a bit too demanding...

Well, I'm not finding it boring to progress at the slow pace I'm going at. In fact, I'm glad im not levelling too quickly if anything. I'd rather take my time and enjoy the game for the combat, playing it more as an FPS with upgradable elements, rather than chasing the levelling up aspect of the game. I can see that if you're going to play it that way, then it'd be pretty monotonous, and most of all, just not much fun.
