I'm one light point away from level 28 and I have 5 shards out of 6 for an upgrade to my armour, i'm ready to raid.

I bought all my gear from the Vanguard and Xur, have an exotic pulse rifle from the bounty and got awarded an exotic hand cannon in the crucible. My legendary sniper rifle was obtained from a legendary engram I picked up that dropped on a strike.

No grinding here however I struggled to get to level 21 from 20, kept getting really low light on armour drops/rewards.

Moz didn't do any grinding - got a legendary hand cannon at the loot cave.

I'm 23 at the moment, have done all the story missions, played Strike playlists a few tines, Crucible several times, and done a few of the daily heroics, and last weeks weekly heroic strike.

Haven't been given any legendaries at all. I've got something like 40 marks in each of Vanguard and Crucible, and I think I'm level 1 with each.

That's farming, not grinding. I was there during a bounty story mission when I went to do the public event which drops outside of the cave. I got the handcannon during the event. After the event I fired the handcannon into the cave for a while. Didn't like it so I dismantled it a few minutes later. The shotgun dropped while I was doing that. The shotgun isn't very good, looking forward to replacing it with something else.

Like I said, I'm just doing strikes with friends. And patrols with banjaxed mostly:

Click on the Tower Map and select the Crucible / Vanguard vendors and it will show your rep.

Me, KiwiCake and Lyrical_Donut did a couple of the Queens Bounty missions last night (cheers for that guys!), and I managed to nab a new helm.

Another 200 crucible rep and I'll buy myself some boots for all purple armour. An exotic at the weekend, assuming it isn't another Striker one. Then I need to work on some guns, as they're all still blue.

You have put many more hours into it than me. So that definitely accounts for the difference.

2 days 20 hours compared to my 28 hours. 12 in Story, 5.5 in Strikes, 5 in Control Crucible, 3.5 in Patrol, 1.5 in Salvage Crucible.

Yeah, like I keep saying to people. Just play the parts you enjoy and the gear will come. Those people "grinding" crucible for drops and then crying when they don't get exotics are mad. I got all mine just by having fun and doing a little bit of everything. There were a few moments of "I need two marks to get a new item, so I'll do this easy strike" but I'm only doing what I feel in the mood for.

Sorry for kicking you out of the fireteam last night gmass_360, I was trying to solo a queens bounty mission. After you dropped in the enemies got twice as tough (and hit twice as hard) and the level gap between us was too big, we'd have never finished it.

Anyone up for the raid tonight? It'll probably be a couple of hours of banging your head against a brick wall.

At level 26 I do not think I am quite ready for a raid. I am in desperate need of better weapons, the ones I carry with me are all fully upgraded blues that under perform on bosses and yellow enemies. I am game for level 24-26 Fire Team runs though.

edit: also, I am leveling my Sunslinger build which is now at 75% or something.

I'm somewhat in the same boat. Levelling's based solely off your armour, which can leave you a little under-equipped if you're unlucky, I think.

I have a Blue for the primaries I use (Scout, Pulse, Auto rifles) and for most of my Secondaries (Snipers and Shotguns, but only green Fusion rifles) and for a couple of heavies, but doing last week's Weekly Heroic at lvl 23 I just couldn't kill major enemies quickly enough.

So far (100% Voidwalker, 75% Sunsinger) I recommend Sunsinger for when in a group. It is a great "support" build that can reduce the cooldown of talents for you and your team mates. Voidwalker is my go-to build to blow shit up :)

I hit level 15 last night with my Warlock. Am I best off maxing out my original subclass or switching? I guess I'll have plenty of chance to do both eventually so am leaning towards carrying on as I am for now.

You can switch between the two easily enough it's worth just equipping whichever more suits the mission you're doing.

When you switch, your subclass initially has no grenade, no double jump, no super. So it's hard to play with. I'd recommend getting some bounties completed with your main class, then switching to the sub class when turning them in. That way, you can get a pretty quick rank up to make it playable.

As a level 22 I get the feeling I won't quite be ready for any of the Queens missions?

I feel like I've been stuck at this level for ages. :(

You just need to find some people to team up with. I did the story missions at level 21 with another 21 and a 24. Seriously the earth mission takes all of 10 mins, and the respawn restricted section is very very short. Yes you can get killed very very quickly if you aren't careful but if there is more than one of you and you stay out of the central area it's easy to revive each other or hide. Did that twice and shot up to level 24 with a legendary helmet and chest armour as the rewards. Moon mission is harder as it is quite a bit longer.
