I prefer fewer drops and investing in my existing items (unlocked the perks in each item) rather than getting a new item every five minutes personally. The way items level up essentially is a dash of mad genius.

Speaking of loot, Xur should be appearing in the tower around 11am I think. Time to get some exotic stuff :D

Depends whether you're on in a P2P area or an instanced area. Some parts of the game are hosted locally and it pulls other players into your game or vice versa based on proximity. The dungeons and raids are all on dedicated servers so anyone can drop out without everyone else getting kicked. It's all seamless, basically when you walk towards a dungeon and the enemies outside are suddenly way higher level than the ones you saw a minute ago, you've crossed into the dedicated server. It's clever as fuck.

Yeah, but I shouldn't really have to be working out I've got a message outside of the game that I need to go out of the game to find and accept just to go back to the game I'm already playing. I don't mind if I have to leave my instance to rejoin theirs even though it looks like we're in the same place or whatever, but the teaming up and joining should be handled ingame and it's fucking stupid that it isn't.

Someone made a little website which shows when the public events occur: http://jsfiddle.net/9yab3qzq/13/embedded/result/

What are the requirements for him? I don't know if my 9 strange coins is a lot or not haha

How does light on equipment work? I've got a chestpiece with +6 light, and one with +2. Do I need to get the light 'out' of the armour through earning XP (i.e. the same as with special abilities on armour), or do you just get light from equipping it?

Also, how much light do you need to get from level 20 - 21?

I'm up to level 10 now and on the moon, seeing far more people around which is helping and the moon is fun, ish.

The numbers are still killing it for me, they are pointless apart from telling you whether you got a headshot and changing guns constantly to keep up with the increases is tedious and unnecessary to the gameplay.

I am enjoying it and once I'm not completely underpowered I'm sure the multiplayer will click but its still a lonely experience with all the people I know being on bone and me on 360.

You want items with the most light and yes earning XP will let you upgrade it and will grant more light when the defence stat increases.

You need 20 light added up throughout all armour pieces to get to 21.

Just equip the armour. I think you need about 15 to 20 I think to get from 20 to 21. I'm part way through 21 and have about 22 light equpped.

EDIT: Supposedly 20 according to above I see.

It works like gearscore. The more total light you've got across all your equipped gear, the higher level (over 20) you'll go. If you unequip the gear your level goes back down.

When you upgrade the defense stat of the gear, it also gains more light.

Cheers! So if I've got two chestplates with different light values, there's no way I can combine them, right? It's one or the other, and I should go for the one with the most light.

Yip exactly right, you can't combine them, yeah I just discard all items with lower light it will give you plasteel plating which you need to level up blue armour.

Ha, cool. I just spent ten mins trying to figure that out unsuccessfully.

FWIW in regards to the partying, voice chat and so on, Bungie have said it's something they're discussing at the moment as they look at implementing requested features. Do they have a historically good record with this stuff?

The one thing I'm not quite sure about yet is Motes of Light.

What can I buy with them? So far I only know of The Speaker who accepts them as a currency for shit class items which are dreadful for the Titan, or emblems which don't seem worth the 7 motes.

Is there anyone else who accepts them?

I'm having a fantastic time with this game. I think the combination of Halo's gunplay with the MMO/RPG stylings of having classes and class abilities that can really change up an encounter works really well, especially at higher level difficulties with the various modifiers. Thanks to the Strike playlists I've gone from 20 to 25 in the last three nights - levelling post 20 really only does get easier as you can move up the difficulty tiers in the playlists and buy gear quicker.

Not finding the repetition of content a problem yet, thanks to how differently each run of a given area can be. It's like the way I used to play Silent Cartographer or Assault on the Control Room over and over again - each run is different enough that it feels fresh. Plus you have that feeling of constant improvement, tweaking your approach each time for better results. As a formerly big MMO player, it's really scratching an itch.

Here I am at present:

Plus I found my first exotic weapon - a handgun, which is a weapon type I've barely used at all (mainly been sticking with scout and auto rifles). I'm pretty awful with it right now, but I'll adapt:

Sorry to anybody who has joined me only to find me AFK or the likes. Anybody who used to play WoW with me can tell you I'm one of the worst for wandering away from a game.

Used to go something like this.

Cake, you there? Cake? Cake? CAKE? AARON WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?!

Hmmm the light requirements between each level seem to decrease. I'm a third of the way through level 21 and have 24 light equipped (works out as an average of 18 light per level). My mate is a third of the way through 22 and has 35 light equipped (averaging out at 15 light per level). I've also just looked at someone 3/4s of the way through 28 and they 106 equipped (averaging out at 12 light per level).

I can't seem to find a guide anywhere which actually quotes the light numbers you need for each level,

I attempted the weekly heroic last night. All was fine until the last wave when deciphering the runes.

Solar shotgun just isn't enough against unstaggerable wizards. Looks like I'm hunting down a solar fusion rifle for the extra range before trying that again!

Indeed I did. Which is why I'm a bit baffled that Jon effectively said 'they don't make them like this anymore'. They never made them like this.

You have to give kudos to activsion for backing this in such a huge way. I mean the pitch, halo meets WOW, is a marketing mans dream but the reality is no one has done this before and there are big enough differences with both the aforementioned games that it still takes big balls to throw hundreds of Millon's of dollars at it.
