Destiny: FIN

Got a purple emblem and had a feeling it would give me a purple item this time and it did! For a different class... This game hates me.

I've had at least 4 Hunter only legendaries so far. Bank is filling up at this rate. I should really make and level a Hunter, but I cant drag myself away from my Titan.

Who mentioned COD? Not me.

I don't really think that Destiny is a massive steaming pile but it's just not all that it has been hyped up to be. I am going to persevere but my initial impressions are that its a bit dull.

I may have over egged it slightly with the Haze comparison, but it was the first thing that sprang to mind as a massively hyped game that failed to deliver. Fingers crossed for later on, hopefully a bit of levelling up will do the trick.

You're probably right that I've been playing as a single player and need to get in some teams. I don't have time for prolonged playing though which scuppers that slightly.

I doubt any amount of extra playing will change the terrible voice acting and bollocks storyline though! ;)

Dude, I was just exaggerating with the CoD references.

But, believe me, it's more than its hyped up to be. Once you get in there.

Playing as a lone wolf won't help you see that though, so party up, get involved, figure shit out, die a lot, then come back for more.

If you had an Xbox One, you could come along with me for the ride just to see how good it can be.

But please persevere, it's a lot more than how you're currently seeing it.

Come back and tell me I was wrong.

Holy hell, just tried the daily story mission on lvl 24 (I'm 23). Its not that hard, but one thing is super cheap - the invisible sword Vandal Fallen that jump out at you and *one shot you* because of the special modifier that ups their melee damage. Going to have to lower the difficulty on it as it just pissed me off dying to a mob that's stealthed after it jumps out at you from seemingly nowhere >.<

I was a bit cold on the game to start with too. Oh how that changed! It's not that the problems aren't there, but the game's strengths build and build to the point where they fade into insignificance. I love a good story in my games, and was really disappointed that Destiny didn't deliver there earlier on, but at this point I really couldn't care less about it.

Speaking of the story, I finished it today with help from a friend who tagged along for the last few missions. The music for the last boss was fantastic! I am kind of curious to see what direction it'll take now that Marty's gone though.

Yup me and Hardbattle were having a nightmare with those pricks. Does it balance with more players? Felt like we could have done it with another player.

Got dropped from a lvl 24 strike right as the boss died. Something really strange going on, as it happened around this time last night as well. Bit annoyed as it could have at least kicked me at the start and not at the bloody end!

It isn't a PSN issue either, as I'm still connected, and my internet is fine. Bungie's netcode seems to be the issue. Probably too strict, dropping people for a seconds or so delay in sending packets or something.

First time in about a week I had managed to get to play this (PS4), and found this message persisted when I tried...

post-13077-0-86705900-1411112695.jpg

Then I remembered I downloaded the Destiny app on my Nexus. Even though it wasn't present in my active windows, it was obviously still running somewhere. Had to scramble around to find my Nexus and turn it off before I could play the game.

Just a word of warning, seems the "app" locks up your "game" - bit of a shit design. App uninstalled! :\

Well last night this game gave me all the luck under the sun, leveled from 24 to 26, I thought I would be on 24 for ages after hearing Moz say, he had seen people saying the grind on that level was crazy.

Ended up picking up a legendary helmet engram during a strike and the cryptarch gave me a legendary helmet, and at the same time my cryptarch rank went to 7, got the reward from postman and I got a legendary chest armour. This took me to 25 and about half way towards 26, I then just had to rank my vanguard rank up to level 2. Done about 4 bounties and I was there, bought legendary gauntlets and I was a whisker away. Done some more strikes and managed to rank up my legendary gear enough to take me to 26.

11/25 strikes needed on my Exotic bounty for the "Bad Juju" gun, also have 12 strange coins so hopefully I will have 13 in time for Xur showing up this weekend !

Still loving this game. Hoping to get a team of 26 or above into the Vault of Glass now.

The Vanguard / Crucible points you're referring to is reputation. You'll generally need at least Rank 2 to be able to buy from their vendors.

XP will go towards your guns, armor and abilities and every time you would have gained a level past Level 20, you gain 1 Mote of Light.

You also get reputation every time you decrypt something at the Cryptarch. You'll see he has a level of rep too. Every time you gain 1 level, he'll send you some mail (usually containing 3 blue engrams).

Another Legendary engram last night. Level 16 blue boots with +2 light 8-)

If you need a hunter I'm mid 25 now, expect to be 26 later tonight.

Same here i'm on Android (Xperia Z2), works fine when i'm playing, although how do you see the stock in the shops?

You go to tower map then tap on a vendor, you should see their stock.

New events, Crucible playlists and gubbins

Hilarious how people are going "Struggling to keep interest up, LOL" when IT'S A FUCKING MMO AND IS BEING SUPPORTED LIKE ONE. Fucking idiots.

Yup. There's some more info about the Queens Bounty stuff here .

Someone upthread said that public events are random. They're not, there's a timer here if you're interested

So last night I got an invite to some random's fireteam as we'd been wandering about together on patrol, they were unjoinable except by invite as usual and I don't know why they just didn't join me unless my setting things to public had reset or something (does that happen? surely not?).

Anyway, this is the first time I've joined someone else rather than vice versa so when I got the invite I wasn't sure where to find it. Realised it was in the general PS3 messages so opened the XMB, went to that and accepted, and despite the fact I was stood right next to them it took me entirely out of "my" game to join "their" game, black screen wheile it reloaded and so on. You have got to be fucking kidding me, that's how it works? For the sort of game it is, the difficulty they make in actually teaming up with randoms is one of the most stupid things I've ever seen.

Good beyond that though, this guy was lower level but miles better than me (handy, because I'm useless) and we ended up at that bit where you finish the L8 earth strike and found some tunnel underground that was populated with a load of ??? things that swarmed us so we legged it (is it worth coming back to places like this at a later point? will I be directed here at a later point as part of some mission or other?), and then we hit a public event where we had to take out the Spider Tank plus a million enemies in about three minutes, which didn't happen with the two of us it was hard enough keeping the hordes at bay - only managed to drop the tank once. These public events are all well and good but the PS3 version is a bit quiet so there was only us two about, do you get a few more piling in to help on PS4?

Decent game, if not earth shatteringly amazing.

Fuck, I'm glad games like this are still being made. Coming straight off the back of Dark Souls, this learn through skill mechanic is such a badly missing part of recent games that I wonder where the fun is for the modern gamer.

I'm not saying people aren't getting better at Destiny but many of the the systems in place are the opposite of learn through skill. If you're struggling on a mission you can level up, come back later and it'll be easier. That's not increasing your skill, that's increasing the damage of your weapons through time invested. Which is just about the worst thing about MMOs and the worst thing about Destiny. A solid game like this doesn't need a tangible reward for time invested that makes you more powerful than other players, your skill increase should be reward enough in a fast paced action game. Much like when I played Borderlands, I spent much of this game feeling like I needed something I didn't yet have. Like a rich man who is never satisfied and always wants more money.

Depends whether you're on in a P2P area or an instanced area. Some parts of the game are hosted locally and it pulls other players into your game or vice versa based on proximity. The dungeons and raids are all on dedicated servers so anyone can drop out without everyone else getting kicked. It's all seamless, basically when you walk towards a dungeon and the enemies outside are suddenly way higher level than the ones you saw a minute ago, you've crossed into the dedicated server. It's clever as fuck.

You've just described all loot games. I guess you either like loot games you don't.

I came straight from Diablo 3 to this, it's the same game in so many respects. The game still needs massive chunks of skill, time and time again I'm pushed right to the limit of my FPS and decision-making ability. Last night in fact, Banjaxed, Lyrical Donut and I had a whale of a time doing the weekly.
