Destiny: FIN

Wow..what a game. Just finished my first strike on Earth with a couple of randoms. Took about 90 minutes from start to end and apart from some bullet sponge bosses it was fantastic. Shame that voice comms didn't seem to work though on my wireless headset. Even when I played with a friend in my team on Sunday we couldn't communicate with each other. Looking around it seems a common problem but is there something obvious I'm missing out on?

If its the gold headset there is a button that alters the mix between voice and game volume - I had to alter mine before I could hear the voice audio through the headset.

Still not seen one public event so far which is disappointing, hopefully that patch will sort it out. Anyway, played a few strikes last night and loved it, dragged myself to the cusp of 18. Fully agree that this is a classic in the making. Gets better and better and better the more you play and as soon as your friends join in it's even more fun. Wish I had more time to play...

Is a public event just something that decides to happen when out on patrol or something? If so I had one last night and nearly shit myself and ran away at the sight of a bloody great dropship above me. Then when I realised what was going on I had a go with the L3 chap who was also milling about and we did alright but couldn't finish the last drop in time - by which point they'd got pretty hard.

I quite like the Vex. First, they don't respond to headshots! They look like they should, but it's actually the white glow in their chest/stomach, not the red one in the head.

Second, they're exploitable. Shoot hobgoblins first briefly, to get them to hide behind a shield, then take out a few of his goblin buddies. Them keep moving because of the teleporting. And watch out for fucking Minotaurs.

(I'm permanently traumatised by Minotaurs, after I dropped in on K just as he was mid-end-fight in that first Venus story mission. Fucking teleporting giant robots coming straight at you! Gah.)

And then, they bloody come at you (bro) just like their setup says they should. A giant, pushing, heedless surge. Not a charge like Hive thralls, but just a press. Because they don't care.

I'm not exactly sure as I'm sure I saw a message for one whilst on a mission on the moon but never got there in time so I'm guessing they can happen any time. Anyone?

Didn't find it too bad once we realised we needed to close the distance quickly. I emptied clip after clip into the legs from under the bridge to the right while one, then both of the others were over to the left distracting things that way. Shoot a lot in the core when it drops & repeat, probably took no longer than the floating eye thing.

It took my strike a far bit longer.....I seemed to be the only one hiding behind a pillar and taking pot shots at it's legs. The floaty eye was a lot quicker.

Will have a look at mine later when I get back on it. Thanks for that.

Saw this on reddit earlier about an exotic weapon:

Im on my phone, so I cannot post screen shots right now, but the gist of the exotic is that it is a scout rifle primary. Called the Mida Multi-Tool. It looks fairly generic, but its abilities are game changing.

First it turns the outside ring of your scope into your radar, so you can see your radar even when scoped.

It comes with super fast reloading and quick scope built in without needing to be upgraded first. The weapon also boosts your base movement speed.

All of this is icing on the cake to its most important ability. There is a visible radar on the side of the gun that you can watch while you move around. At first I thought it was just for show, but then I noticed it would start getting brighter and glow when I was aimed in a specific direction. When I moved in that direction it glows brighter and starts to hum.

Its like a metal detector built into a gun. It finds nodes and chests in the area. I cannot tell you how many hidden caves and rooms I have found exploring because of this thing.

It makes farming for mats painless and fast.

:omg:

Come back to this after being away for a few days. The amount of grinding to get anywhere is ludicrous. As much as I've enjoyed what I've played so far. I can't see this being my go to once the big guns release.

And rather than the 2nd coming the raid thing sounds really tedious rather than a good time with friends. Trying to coordinate a party of friends for 8 hours play seems a big ask.

Starting to think this whole long game will be played by bungie employees only.

I'm bored of the same shit over and over and over

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by 'grinding to get anywhere'

I still don't get why grinding has become such a thing. In Destiny, for me, there's no grind you just play the damn thing.

There's absoloutely no fat on the game up until 20, and then you get to do patrols, bounties, heroic modded missions at various difficulty levels, strike missions at various difficulties, you're still accumulating xp toward class skills, you can change to another subclass and play a different way.

You'd be doing all this if the game didn't have levels and xp anyway, I really don't understand the difference.

I'm having a fantastic time with this game. I think the combination of Halo's gunplay with the MMO/RPG stylings of having classes and class abilities that can really change up an encounter works really well, especially at higher level difficulties with the various modifiers. Thanks to the Strike playlists I've gone from 20 to 25 in the last three nights - levelling post 20 really only does get easier as you can move up the difficulty tiers in the playlists and buy gear quicker.

Not finding the repetition of content a problem yet, thanks to how differently each run of a given area can be. It's like the way I used to play Silent Cartographer or Assault on the Control Room over and over again - each run is different enough that it feels fresh. Plus you have that feeling of constant improvement, tweaking your approach each time for better results. As a formerly big MMO player, it's really scratching an itch.

Here I am at present:

Plus I found my first exotic weapon - a handgun, which is a weapon type I've barely used at all (mainly been sticking with scout and auto rifles). I'm pretty awful with it right now, but I'll adapt:

Sorry to anybody who has joined me only to find me AFK or the likes. Anybody who used to play WoW with me can tell you I'm one of the worst for wandering away from a game.

However I charged on with the next level on the moon, and was having equal fun. Got to the end no spawning bit and some big F off Doom type boss appeared (while Dinklebot was doing has old hacker gig) and all hell was breaking loose. Then like a gift from the gods Kriess from the forum appeared and we dished out the damage together, which was just as well as I died a minute after him joining!! PHEW!!

I also really enjoying the fact no one really knows whats going on and we are all trying to piece it together as we go. Also not really knowing how the game will expand or even look in a years time. It might all we a big let down, but it does feel just now like you are part of something new and different.

Haha I spawned into your game and had to run to get to that room with you and get the revive :) I'd taken that dude on a few days ago so knew where to go to get some shots off at him and have cover. Glad to be of assistance!

This sounds incredibly wanky, but I never take more than the three primary weapons with me. I take a scout rifle, sniper rifle, and rocket launcher. After Halo it only seems right. There's nothing else in my inventory.

Yup. Very wanky.

I hit 15 last night and did the first Mars mission. Super duper. I was trying to remember the last game I played where I basically couldn't wait to get home from work to hit it, and played all evening rather than 'playing for a bit' then moving onto doing something else. I just don't want to stop playing this game. Diablo doesn't count because it kind of never ends. I think it might have been Mass Effect 3.

Public events definitely seem a bit more common. I just did the opening mission on Mars, followed by a brief patrol, and had two come up! Kill the bad guy in a time. First, we barely scratched him. Second time, either the ransoms I was with were better, or the fact I was more tooled up helped a lot. We creamed him. Gold Tier!
