Destiny: FIN

I think Bungie want you to stick to your three chosen weapons during engagements. They were the ones who dispensed with the the Doom-style "wheelbarrow of guns" thing in the first place.

I can understand that, but only if the whole game is designed with that in mind. What happens if you come across an elementally immune enemy when you're playing alone, or does this not happen?

I think their thought is that you die and then respec your character before respawning.

I'm undecided about it. Bringing up a big weapon wheel does feel a bit odd. But so does have a game which apparently wants you to use certain weapons against certain enemies but doesn't give you a quick way of doing it.

I try to have access to all three damage types. Primary weapons can only be neutral kinetic damage as far as I've seen, but if your special and heavy weapon are of different elements to your class abilities then you've all your bases covered.

It's a compromise on the old "you cannot change your equipment while in combat" RPG thing. You can do it if you can find a gap in the combat, which adds a really nice element of strategy. It would be silly if you could pull up a radial menu with 20 guns in!

No-ones asking for 20 guns, you're already effectively swapping between 3, why not increase that to say, 5?

I actually like it as it is, but I definitely understand why people would want it differently.

After days of strikes and blue engrams turning into green crap, I finally had one that came out as a legendary pulse rifle. And very tasty it is too!

Is anyone interested in doing the weekly heroic strike tonight? There are loots to be had, but seems there is no matchmaker and you have to have a pre assembled team.

Much as I am loving this game, i do wish it was easier to communicate/arrange things in game, rather than blind invites.

I don't think it's the game. ;)

I'm saying it now. However strangely this first week has been perceived, Destiny will go down as a classic in time.

I'm just glad I'm enjoying it for what it is and not dissecting it and complaining for what it isn't.

10/10. Bungie have done it again.

More than done it and I told you they would. It's magic. GOTY.

After wrapping up the story this week I'd say it's only just begun — felt like a start rather than an end.

Said it about fifty times throughout the thread, but the combat is outstanding.

Last night was the first night I felt like I didn’t make any progress. I died more than 10 times trying to kill that first wizard on the Moon – I nearly lost my mind. Maybe I’m a bit underpowered, I’m level 5 but it’s recommended for level 6 or higher. I’ll probably kill the bast first time tonight.

Wow..what a game. Just finished my first strike on Earth with a couple of randoms. Took about 90 minutes from start to end and apart from some bullet sponge bosses it was fantastic. Shame that voice comms didn't seem to work though on my wireless headset. Even when I played with a friend in my team on Sunday we couldn't communicate with each other. Looking around it seems a common problem but is there something obvious I'm missing out on?

Absolutely ridiculous. This guy in my lobby is scoring 8000 points each game. Way too overpowered. I wonder if they will nerf it.

I imagine it will be dealt with pretty quickly.. It's use is already so widespread amongst the high 20's that you can't avoid it in any of the gametypes.

As annoying as it is though, it's also incredibly satisfying if you manage to shut then down with your own super as they are mid-attack.

Just done the moon strike. That was immense. Really is no better feeling than grouping up with other players who onviously love it too and just getting stuck in. I don't care about the story. I'm fighting a massive ogre in space, with wizards flying around. It's fecking ridiculous.

I'm OK with the weapon shifting piece - as you get used to it, you should know what shields to expect, and change out your secondary and heavy weapons accordingly?

Yeah, you usually only see two of the three types per strike I've noticed. Dust palace is the exception due to the boss.

On the hard difficulties shields are immune to all but the correct damage type, so you may as well build good habits early on.

All guns are leveled in the crucible but what about defense? Do strength/discipline/ intellect levels mean anything ?

Base stats are levelled to be the same. So a Titan has x Defence, and a Hunter has y (for all I know, these are the same.) And an Auto-rifle bullet does x damage, and shoots y per second and so on.

But. Your Legendary auto-rifle might shoot quicker, or reload quicker, or be more stable when crouched, or generate ammo when you miss, or do more base damage or do additional damage towards the end of the clip (or all of those things.) Those things carry through. Similarly, your helmet might recharge your grenade when you melee, or add 50 points to your Discipline, or have had additional defence added, or all of those things. Those things carry through.

A level 24 person will have, by definition, a significant advantage over a Level 8 person, because they've got more perks in their class levelling, and better equipment.

I think.
