What a difference a day makes...

Solid as anything tonight. Been playing in a Fireteam with a friend's girlfriend. Her first time with an FPS and we've had a blast tonight. Was really good showing her the ropes, getting involved and stuff. Man, this game is schizophrenic.

Dear lord, the weekly is insane. We just got a group together to give it a go. Its way harder than the 22 strikes in the strike playlist for one simple reason - you can only be revived by other players, there is no countdown to when you can revive yourself!

The weekly is the Spawn Pits strike, and it also has an extra modifier that makes mobs unflinching, even when taking heavy damage - you can be shooting the crap out of them and they'll still run at you, or shoot you regardless. Needless to say our team died. Died again. Then died some more. Oddly one of the last attempts was a two man affair where we got the boss the lowest, before 5 or so Wizards spawned and wiped the floor with us with their exploding bolts from hell. Oh and almost 70% of the mobs seem to be yellow health bar ones, so take an age to kill. Made me wish that the Earth strike had been the weekly, and I hate that goddamn tank bit in that.

Annoyingly I need a clot of darkness for an exotic bounty, which can only be gotten from the weekly, and of course is taking up one of my bounty slots.

Missed two invites tonight due to not getting them until hours after they were sent. PSN?

Got my first exotic item today after 10 kill spree on control, dominated several games as team and came top on points and kills twice, and completed two crucible bounties. I love being able to just jump in to PvP when I get bored of PvE.

This game, man. This bloody game.

Not playing as often as i'd like (only level 15) we kicked it up a difficulty setting tonight and it just felt amazing. Then we made our way to Mars and the enemies there just blew our little minds. Felt fantastic popping those heads.

I've never played a shooter with such good shooting.

I don't think it's the game. ;)

I'm saying it now. However strangely this first week has been perceived, Destiny will go down as a classic in time.

I'm just glad I'm enjoying it for what it is and not dissecting it and complaining for what it isn't.

10/10. Bungie have done it again.

Couldn't agree more. With every session it just gets better and better!

Almost got 2 character up to Lvl 20 now and still haven't even unlocked Mars yet

Strikes silently scale to how many people are in the Fireteam. I've ended up on my own in a few, including the first Weekly Heroic, and actually found them easier that way: bosses aside, my hand cannon pretty much one-shot everything. Typically the hard parts with a group are when you're mobbed by high-health enemies that are hard to clear, so being able to pop out of cover and take out a handful on your own makes everything pretty manageable.

Wondered what the hell the weekly Nightfall strike was, and why it isn't listed yet. Apparently it opens in the Strikes play-list once you reach level 24. They have multiple modifiers enabled that make them insanely hard (as if the weekly wasn't hard enough), but the rewards are pretty damn nice - Legendary (purple) weapons/armour, up to 8 strange coins and possibly other stuff.

You also get 500 vanguard rep and a special buff called "Radiant Light", which reads: "You have come through the darkness undiminished. Increases all XP gains. Lasts until weekly refresh". The "Radiant Light" buff is accompanied by a special cosmetic aura that manifests itself in what looks like blue flames engulfing your head

Oh the minimum recommended level for nightfall strikes is 28, and if you all die, the strike ends and sends you all to orbit!

Edit: Just had some silly luck on the moon doing patrol missions. Got all 3 Playstation exclusive ship schematics - Aurora Lance, Crypt Hammer, and Outrageous Fortune from chests. I had no idea where the hell the things came from until now. Might be worth farming the chests on the Moon if you want to get them, though they cant be that hard to get if I got all 3 in one patrol.

I'm finding invites difficult to follow, and it odd that you can't see you've received them (or accept them) within the game.

Me and my mates did this last night, two of us level 23 and the other a 25, it was properly solid!

The trick is at the boss is to kill everything bar the Hallowed Knights (think theres 4 or 5), this then means there won't be any more enemy spawns, all you then need to do is run round in circles avoiding them and the boss, concentrate all fire on the boss being sure to stay relatively close to each other (about a titan boost away) one person can distract the knights and troll if someone goes down then when revived help them out!

Loved it!

Ah nice I thought that might work. That's tonight sorted then.

Another method for the boss is to stay inside the room before it spawns and shoot from there. A striker will spawn but all you have to do is run out of the room (back towards entrance) and it will disappear after around 20 secs. Rinse and repeat until boss is dead.

I did this strike solo yesterday evening using this method and only died once

I was randomly joined by someone from here for the first Mars mission today. I had to play it on normal as they were only level 14, but it felt pretty cathartic to be able to wade through everything for a change. :)

I think that was me. I've only played up to the first few missions on Venus, so didn't even have a clue what the big fat things on Mars were or how to take them down. Had a blast though :)

You did the weekly solo? What level are you?

Apparently having a lvl 20 upgraded blue fusion rifle thats solar damage is perfect for the Wizards btw, which I don't have :(

Got my first Legendary Engram last night. Blue Machine Gun worse than my current.

They have somehow managed to take part of the fun out of purples dropping. If I precision kill an Acolyte causing it to explode like one of the vamps from Blade, leaving behind a shiny Purple Orb, I should be pumped. Instead, I'm like, ehhhh, probably wank. Then I have to fly all the way to the tower through loading screen after loading screen, just to decrypt it and be disappointed.

Not cool Bungie, not cool at all!

It was similar with Diablo 3 when that launched. Not enough awesome drops.

They need to make more of a show when a legendary drops. There should be a wicked sound effect and something like a huge beaming light shining down onto it. Like Diablo 3.

Basically yeah make it more like Diablo 3.

It does work that way too going on the item descriptions (I've not experienced it myself though).

I wonder what the percentages are for the conversion of engrams into item quality. Like blues engrams generally decrypt into blues 90% of the time or so for me. But you'll have like a 0.02% chance or something tiny of getting a Legendary.

I've put about six hours in every night since I got the game. I wasn't even that bothered about it until I got into the beta and enjoyed it, so preordered on a whim!

So last night was propa mentals (that's for you, Uncle Mike!). I got myself a legendary engram which contained an exotic (yellow) autorifle. This one to be precise:

maxresdefault.jpg

It kicks like a mule, sounds like a banshee from hell and feels FUCKING AMAZING to shoot. My enjoyment of the game just went up even more!

I've got a video of me using it processing, will post it in a bit.

Also I saw a fantastic bit of AI last night. I went back into the first story mission on lvl 28 heroic, which was pretty dastardly. The AI is quicker to dodge and more defensive, I'm sure of it. Anyhow I was battling a Fallen Captain, who was running for cover after I'd just popped his shield. He ran between two big crate things, and I instinctively lobbed a grenade at him. He spun around, saw the grenade coming, realised he couldn't dodge as he had crates on either side, and ducked down to a crouch so that the grenade sailed right over his head, landing harmlessly behind him. Fucking amazing!
