I'm kind of relieved that the game has stuff to do past the level cap, I'm on 15 and only just done the first Venus mission. So I should probably hit the cap before finishing the story.

The first Venus mission is brill by the way. I'd been using the pulse (battle) rifles for most of the game but got a decent green auto rifle at last. I'd just switched to it when that bit happened. Perfect timing. Went full arnie and just kept my finger on the trigger until all that was left was loot.

My only grumble is that I have so little time to play this, I'm never going to play the raids, and having stuff that only happens at the weekends is the suck as well

I haven't offered any opinions, I'm just speaking to the comments like "it's fun if you like it" and "it's not grindy" in response to complaints about it being grindy.

I kinda thought we'd all gotten over this whole "why does this review not concord with my own view" years ago?

The raid looked insane. I'm never going to play anything like that. Looks designed for twitch streamers not regular people.

I'm level 18, and there's still plenty of stuff I haven't seen yet, not been grindy at all for me yet. Bit concerned that when/if the game becomes endlessly doing and redoing strikes to earn marks there aren't that many to choose from. There are only 5 (6 on playstation). I worry the feeling of pointless repetition may kick in then. I'll have got my value long before then if so.

Here's something I bet few of you know.

You know those Grimoire cards, the things with all the plot that are really laborious to read and aren't in the game anywhere? They contain loads of buffs and bonuses for your hero. I know right!

Go to bungie.net and look at your profile, then look at this:

Closest bonuses, whaaa?

Click on one and it takes you to the Grimoire entry for the corresponding card:

Click the clipboard for flavour text or the bar chart icon for the statistics that card is tracking. This one tracks Cabal legionary kills. Rank 1 gets you +5 Grimoire score, rank 2 has the diamond shaped icon next to it, because it unlocks the buff listed.

There are loads of them. Xp boosts, glimmer boosts, you name it. So you can actually buff and improve your character by chasing ranks in the grimoire cards too.

Why Bungie chose to surface all this in the worst possible way imaginable is totally beyond me, but there you go.


Anyone know why matchmaking doesn't work on the weekly strike?

That's obviously the one you need to rinse/repeat as it gives 10x more Vanguard Rep than the playlist Lv22 strike.

You only get the reward once :)

You can still replay it but you don't get anything until it resets. The daily is the same :)

I actually quite like the Grimoire cards. The combination of the anti-plot in the game and having to read through the backstory through a separate app reminds me of being a teenager, and reading through RPG handbooks for games I would never play.

Is it too difficult for randoms? Perhaps they thought match made groups would bail when the going got tough? Maybe they want to encourage friends lists and organisation and clans for the tougher challenges, with the carrot of extra XP? Dunno

So someone says "its grindy"

someone else says "it's fun if you like it" and "it's not grindy"

and you feel the need to point out that some are finding it grindy? Surely by reading all posts we can work out that some have the opinion it is grindy and some do not. Or would it be better if it said

They are all opinions and yes some are phrased as a contradiction usually with reasons why etc.

I'm going to say it was a time issue, and it'll get patched into the game eventually. Too many people have pointed it out as a failing for them to ignore it.

Fuck man, even if it just launches the PS4/Xbox web browser that's still better than nothing.

As Mike says, if they're finding playing around with some of the best FPS combat ever created is a bit of a grind, then reaching level 20 won't suddenly make them change their mind. The game simply isn't for them.

I really fail to see it doing anything better than any other game, combat wise. Whats the hook for you?

You can certainly read the cards in the app. And if you read the tickers along the bottom of the screen in-game, you can see how you're doing, as it'll pop up to tell you you're on the way to 300 Fallen kills or whatever as you go. But the tickers won't tell you what you get for doing so.

Everyone needs to put "imo" after every sentence, that's literally the only way sort it. In my opinion, of course.

I don't think you lose anything by not looking, you just won't be aware that there is any progress to be made if maybe you kill another 50 more Dregs or something. I've not reached any yet but I guess (or hope) that something would ding ingame when you do achieve a bonus?

The fact that such progress doesn't seem to be explicitly shown ingame in general is absolutely fucking mental though. Surely, surely they of all people must realise that the continual incrementing of small numbers is what gamers are conditioned to lap up these days?

It's Halo combat with the added interest of elemental weapon types, elemental shields and character buffs/abilities which complement each other in different ways.

I thought it looked too good to be true. Makes sense I suppose.

I'll be attempting it later if any PS4 lot wanna help me.

I'm up for it, will be on from about 6.
