Destiny: FIN

Played the second story mission on Venus tonight, which I had a lot of fun with. Back in the Academy library I was in with K the night before, but a lot fewer enemies this time. Then a wicked end fight in some big server room full of gantries.

Starting to actually think about shield colour versus gun colour as well now, which paid dividends.

Then I picked up a bounty to do the last story mission on the Moon (Shrine of Oryx?) on Hard for XP. That was great. Enemies behave differently on Hard; Thralls only charge at you when they think you're not looking, otherwise they stalk and hide.

So that was great, and tough.

Then I played Control in the Crucible to get a 'Capture 10 Zones' bounty. My team must have thought I was crazy, because I was capturing zones like there was no tomorrow. I recommend that approach actually: we totally smashed the other team's points.

And I used that trick someone gave me above to cash in the bounty using the subclass, and got my Defender up and semi-viable. I like that! Capture a zone, deploy Ward of Light, make everyone come in and melee you.

Took my Titan from 16 to mid-18 tonight. Nearly there! Still not really finding much new loot. I went on a gold chest hunt on Earth, and now have the 4 non-Strike ones. Time to do more hunting, I guess.

Also. I fucking love this so far.

I'm way behind you guys (level 10), but so far I've mostly been using hand cannons. I can't remember the last time I used a rifle, if I'm honest. Maybe level 2 or something. Is this a mistake or not?

Nah, it isn't a mistake. I've been mainly sticking to the hand cannons during PVE as I find it much much easier to line up "precision kills" (headshots, etc) with it. I usually have that bounty in my inventory so it's hand cannons all the way until the bounty is completed and then I just switch to another gun type for a bit of variety.

There's something immensely satisfying about the hand cannons :)

I'm going to try and get shot of my no-barcode copy tomorrow. I properly hate it, the more I think about it. It's got the right gunplay, it looks pretty decent, and all of that - but it's no fun when playing alone, and that's a big no-no for me. Also, as many have said, the story is complete shit, and isn't in any way making me want to go on.

If your on PS4 add me!

If not, get a PS4 and add me!

Does anyone know what the deal is with the area on venus where there are these two Prometheans wandering around? Nothing I had did a single digit of damage. Even a direct hit with my Titans Death From Above did zip :o

They're level 26, so you must be lower level than them. Way lower. Guessing they may be something to do with the raid.

Anyone else nearing level 26?

I'm thinking we could get a muk raid run together? Tackle the first section at least. We could even stream it for the mildly bothered out there.

I'm level 23 atm, nearly 24. If the legendaries I keep getting weren't Hunter only (yes I got another one earlier) and were Titan, I'd probably be 24+!

Yes do this, join and just say hello, is what I've been doing. I'l be about as and when I can and think am on the same time as you or near enough.

Sounds good! Yeah, I'm generally on from 9 or 10 ET. Tried to join you guys just now, but you're doing something too difficult for me, apparently.

Can now confirm after reaching Vanguard rank 2 that this seems to be what opens up the Exotic Bounties, and gives you the 3 bounties to pick from. Each bounty starts a chain that gives you a different Exotic weapon at the end, so pick wisely.

A Light in the Dark - Exotic Hand Cannon (supposedly, not a lot of info on this one)

Toland's Legacy - Exotic Pulse Rifle

A Dubious Task - Exotic Shotgun

Jon - sorry for not joining, I was doing a story mission and it was getting a bit hectic. Had to finish after that one for bedtime :)

I could do with catching up a few levels too actually.

No worries man.

If you want to level up, you're probably better off jumping in with us and we'll go through all the Earth missions. I wouldn't mind going back through them again, now I'm a higher level.

This is exactly how I feel. I loved Halo and would have been more than happy with a decent campaign mode in Destiny, even if it was just a few hours long and a meager 10% of the full game content, but no. It's shit. It's semi-multiplayer, whatever the fuck that means and does nothing to enhance it. It's a bastard child with as much charisma as Dinklage affords his character, which is apt considering how much charisma his other "bastard" character has. I've barely even scratched the surface but I have no real desire to persevere which is shocking considering how much they charge for these overblown, over hyped heaps of horseshit these days.

Being back at work has really slowed my progress to 26. Got to the verge of 25 last night so reckon with a bit of luck I may be ready in a couple of nights.

Wouldn't worry, my main character is almost Lvl 20 and I've barely set foot on Venus yet.

My plan is to start a 3rd character and just play through the entire campaign in order without touching Patrol or Crucible. Hopefully this should keep the levelling curve intact.

For you under-levelled lot considering the Lv26 Raid, I hope you know your attack power is nerfed by 20% for every level under the requirement your character is (and it's cumulative).

Roughly translated: your guns will be pea-shooters.

Ssssh man. I wanted to watch them try it :)

I don't get it.

I've played a fair few of the campaign levels solo and they're great fun, with a lot of them up there with best that Halo had to offer.

Being solo doesn't stop you doing anything other than the strikes and raids, so there's still plenty of content to go at. Far more than the 'meager 10%' you mention.

I can understand you not liking it for various reasons, but saying you love Halo but hate this seems crazy. It's got the sublime combat that only Bungie can do and some brilliant AI across a really good selection of enemies. The levels are amazing to look at and are brilliant combat arenas.

The only other thing I can get from your post then, is that you're hating it because of Dinklage's character - one of the most superfluous things you could have picked on.

Each to their own and all that, but it's disappointing that you're slating it for things that aren't even true.

An hour watching someone pump bullets into a slightly moving health bar.? ;)

Good luck all, did the level 22 one last night, whew!

I'll let you in on a big secret... Do stuff a couple of levels below your current level if you don't want the boss to be a slog. At your level or higher the bosses become uphill struggles by design!

Thing is with Destiny the path to level 20 is sort of like a huge extended tutorial and the real core of the game only is only post 20.

From the marketing and hype you do expect some huge sweeping space opera where you play a pivotal part in an epic adventure. It's Bungie. When in reality, all narrative is merely tacked on and superfluous just to embellish your progress through the real game which is very much like a shoot and loot game. The enemies could be circus clowns and it still wouldn't be any less fun shooting them.

It's a more rounded take on what Titanfall tried, and failed to do. At least here there is some semlance of a campaign however lightweight and nonsense it is. I can see how people felt let down by the bait and switch. I was. But once you understand what hopefully they were trying to do it makes sense. Plus it made it easier to market it.

Thanks for your top tip Moz. Lol. I was with two level 22's and they were having as hard a time as me, and it did take ages.
