Oooooooooffffttttttt

Dat shoulder charge! My favourite ability at the moment. Its ace for traversing areas as well as smacking the shit outta things.

I am a bit surprised that I've not seen this advertised on the telly yet. Must only be at cinemas at the moment or something.

This is still the best trailer though, and its fan made

So I was complaining about the way the turning works in this game and how it was messing with my head. In the end I thought it was just the amount of time since I'd played Halo making me find it odd. Well it turns out it's because the controls and turning behave differently in The Crucible to how they do in the rest of the game :o It's throwing me every time.

I get the impression (and I hope, really) that this is a game with a bit more legs than normal, so I do think it seems a bit harsh to be reviewing it already, even if they've finished what is there and got people past level 20.

It comes across like more will happen anyway. Then again, if it doesn't or it's hats and the like, I can't really defend it.

I'm still enjoying it a lot though to be honest, had some good games with RickyDVT and Comrade earlier and it's just fun to play IMO.

Raids are something that only a minute fraction of the player base will ever experience anyway, seeing as you need 5 other friends online at the same time to do one and they supposedly last 6 hours. Pre-release Bungie were talking it up as something for only the most hardcore of the hardcore and I believe there's a grand total of one in the game. If I was a betting man I'd say they'll just be a longer and much harder Strike mission. So I doubt it'll suddenly turn critical opinions around.

We'll see. I hope you're right I really do. But they're hoping to flog DLC soon (I think the first one is about 2 months away) so I do wonder how much more they'll add for 'free' to the base game. The DLC already sounds a bit uninspiring - more levels on the moon - so I have serious doubts they're going to be adding anything significant to the existing levels if the DLC isn't even new planets.

I thought that slagging off Bungie for making a game that was accessible to lots of people is unduly negative, as if somehow it's bad to try and make a popular game. I also thought that criticising the environments for being empty was crazy given that you are cruising around a post apocalyptic area filled with deadly aliens, what do they want, loads of pointless Assassins' Creed shit? A tavern on the moon the with space beer and mini games?

I do wonder if some in the press have had their noses put out of joint in some way.

I think it's very constructive criticism and if Bungie were look at it as such they could improve the game a huge amount.

I'l preface this by saying that I do really enjoy the game, but it is a bit of a disappointment. It feels like they've taken aspects of Halo, Borderlands and Mass Effect - but somehow not taken the best aspects.

It simulates the Halo experience but the gunplay and enemy design doesn't surpass it in anyway - a lot of enemy AI is "hide behind a rock, pop out now and again".

The loot system is no where near as rewarding as Borderlands 2 and the character class customisation doesn't offer enough unique possibilities.

They made The Tower look like the Crucible from Mass Effect but removed all character from it - I have to say that the way you receive quests and the story progression is big disappointment.

I also can't help feeling that the game is held back by them also having to develop it for last gen consoles; but one good thing that's been shown in this generation is how quickly and easily new content and updates can be added to a game, look at Titanfall for example. I hope Bungie take note of the criticism, I really don't want this to be one of those games where by the time the second or third DLC pack comes out everyone has lost interest and moved on.

Damage control begins.

Xur is just yet another dude in the Tower who will sell you more stuff after a ludicrous grind.

Is that damage control? Seems like a fair point to make re the raids & events.

Although I can't remember the last review I read so it doesn't bother me really, I have very little faith in them.

I sort of sympathise with them, and sort of not. They've released a game with an apparently planned long lifespan of evolving content, new challenges etc. So a World of Warcraft or whatever. But, rather than do it with a subscription fee, they've done it as a £50 retail title, and DLC charges.

And it does feel a little empty today. The Tower is poor, the bad guys rewspawn super-quick, there's only a few mission types and so on.

My hope would be that actually all those plans do make sense, and in 6 months the game will look very different. Otherwise it's quite hard to see where the money went.

It feels like a bit of an own goal to launch it this sparse otherwise. Everyone will move on for COD and Titanfall 2.

I dunno, it worked for Guild Wars 1 and 2. Obviously, GW didn't launch to such fanfair, though.

I haven't encountered these issues yet, but I'm sure they'll iterate it quickly enough. Can't imagine they'd do otherwise for having already spent that amount of money.

Every mission takes me ages in this, because I spend so much time gawping at everything in the environment, or off in the distance. If I see some interesting-looking piece of junk off to the side I go up and inspect it. It's a really beautiful game - and I don't just mean graphical fidelity. I dig Bungie's style, and it has the knock-on effect of making me giddy for the visual potential of Mass Effect 4.
