Destiny: FIN

Just had a great session with Rickydvt we razzed around Venus and went off mission exploring, the environments are truly breathtaking, we found this crazy structure by chance and began double jumping up it, we got super high and looked down on where the mission was going off, we looked up and the whole thing went up to the sky. Sadly the illusion was shattered when we couldnt go any higher. it would have been incredible if by chance you found a whole new environment by exploring.

That being said Its very enjoyable when its at its best.

Its not the sensitivity that is the problem in the crucible in my opinion. It's this weird inertia acceleration thing that is going on. When you start to turn it is very slow and accelerates the rate up to the setting you have chosen, it's even slower at getting up to speed if you are walking around and gradually turning instead of flicking the stick to turn in short spurts. It's really screwing with my head when I play.

Bungie games always have this on pads for me, they have weird turn acceleration.

Just seems more exaggerated to me. Maybe it's because it's been a while since I played any Halo, just feels very odd and frustrating right now.

That Metro review is comically negative

And yet we very much doubt Bungie sees many, if any, of our complaints as flaws. The whole game system has clearly been designed exactly the way it is on purpose, to be as accessible and attractive to the widest possible number of people.

Yeah Bungie you cunts, what the fuck are you doing trying to make a popular game?!

I've been having lots of fun on this with various mukkers and friends. Thoroughly hooked on the leveling / looting aspect. The combat's brilliant too. Harsin seems to have nailed the story pretty well

That Moon Strike though. Did it first time with a friend and a random at lvl 11/12... somehow! Went back later at a higher level with same friend and b00dles, got absolutely battered. Hardbattle was slogging away at it last night when I joined and it was much easier, but then I was lvl 20 and kitted out pretty nicely.

Oh, and this happened.

I've ordered a Gold headset, can't stand the packed in thing, bud keeps falling out. Hurry up Zavvi!

Do story missions offer scaled-up difficulties for higher level players? For example, if I level up loads by caning Crucible, will that render all the Moon missions piss easy (even on Hard), or would I simply unlock harder versions that match my level?

It's beyond crazy that they don't do this already!

That's what I really don't understand, getting really basic stuff like this, that 5 minutes play testing would reveal as a problem, wrong. Another one, this is a game they've said you'll want to level multiple characters, yet they've put in unskippable (shit) cutscenes. So when I get bored of my Titan and want to give a Warlock ago I'll have sit through the court politics of terrible space elves again, and further again if I fancy trying a Hunter. Surely in the countless design meetings that undoubtedly took place someone must have thought hang on that's not a good idea. It would have been nice if the same guy had mentioned having to return to the Tower to do pretty much anything and sitting through loooooong loading screens ain't exactly a good time either.

I was impressed that I did the intro, then I did the second mission, then I did a patrol and flew around on my sparrow shooting things, and then I did the third mission, and then I did another patrol and flew around on my sparrow, and then I did the fourth mission and it linked me up to my spaceship so that I could summon my sparrow and fly around on it.

Still absolutely loving it though.

I assumed this was so when someone who hasn't seen the cutscene is playing online with someone who has, they stay in sync.

I've kind of given up on any real kind of story to this game, and I've found that its a ton of fun when approached as a dumb game for going shooty-man with a bunch of friends.

I bought the stock edition of the PS4 version - should I have got a code for bundled DLC?

There's a big DLC pack on PSN for like £35 or something - is it even out yet? Will it be worth it?

I also noticed that Destiny doesnt keep any save data on the PS4. We're reliant on Bungies servers for keeping our progress.

This just gets better and better, I bloody love it.

Managed a few more hours last night after my initial foray on Tues. Did zero story missions (so have only had a few on the moon and still haven’t finished off earth) and just went on patrol round the Cosmodrome doing the side missions. Totally addicted to it, must have done 10-15+ at least and never gets old even though they are all a variation on a few themes and basically the equivalent of the 'kill 10 rats/goblins/whatever' you get in traditional mmo's and usually boring as fuck. The combat is just fantastic each and every time.

Think I’m up to level 8 now and have a tasty shotgun with some nice perks. Do all the legendary/perk weapons have a green background on your inventory screen? Still have no real idea what’s going on in the tower, I’m just buying and picking stuff up, seems good to me though.

Also must again big up the music and sfx, it is absolutely glorious, just stunning stuff. Anyone using an astro mixamp with this, which setting have you got it on currently? Was trying pro but think I prefer core at the moment for a fuller sound.

I can see myself playing this for ages, it’s that good. And looking forward to seeing lots of fellow mukkers star side over the weekend. :)

The £35 DLC pack is the expansion pack for the next two DLC content that Bungie are going to release.

Expansion I (The Dark Below) and Expansion II (House of Wolves)

I have the same basic edition of the game & there is no code inside.

I'm loving it, but I can see that it isn't for everyone. If you are used to the set piece spectacle of a COD SP campaign, then Destiny (especially solo) will feel flat by comparison.

But for me, the game takes excellent shooting mechanics of Halo and adds other people (even if playing alone, there is something nice about having other players run around) and a huge variety of encounters.

Destiny is pretty close to Halo with randomly generated levels and full coop. I've been wanting this for years, and looking back at old posts, it seems I'm not the only one...

I just want the original Halo but with a skirmish mode against AI on randomly generated maps. Have a big valley, drop in a few structures, set up some Convenant teams, and put me in there. They can do away with the plot for all I care, I just want the combat system. I'm not fussed about Flood or Brutes, I'll take the bare bones. I want to be faced with a building and the task of clearing it out against Legendary AI - with random variations to the setup, I think I could play that for years.

Failing that, I don't want any sodding boss battles.

Yeah, a Halo random level generator which could be labelled as a combat simulator or something. If you're playing online you can invite people to join and help you out.

Oh my god you are so right. Randonly generated baddie placements, a mixture of different AI levels in one room as well as a good mix of jackals grunts and elites. oh my god it would be perfect. I'd still be playing it in 5 years time.

To be honest I agree with pretty much everything he says in the review, but I'd give more weight to the positives of the gunplay and art design.

Can't see how you think it's comically negative?
