Destiny: FIN

I have not read all that has been said over the last few days here as I have been playing this a lot.

I am level 14 and have done a lot of the missions and have to say, at the start, I wasn’t feeling it.

Normally, this style of game does not hold my interest for too long but now, after many hours and exploring new worlds and going deeper and deeper into them, I feel the game has really shined.

I’ve enjoyed it immensely and gunplay has been tense and frustrating (but in a good, challenging way), all which I have played solo.

I cant say how long this enjoyment will last but I feel I have had my moneys worth and as an experience, its been great and in videogames, its hard for me to really feel like I have been some place but this game makes me want to explore, kill and collect, which is quite rare as I have played a lot of games and nothing really grabs me anymore, unlike this.

If we strip it back, the game is pretty simple but the environments and the gunplay make this a lot of fun. Anyone expecting the return of Halo or the next COD, look elsewhere and I was one of those but I am glad I have had the pleasure to play it and have enjoyed it very much.

I could list a bunch of things I dont like (I hate the Tower area, too big) and the slight lack of the game telling me about the amour/gun upgrades and I had to figure that all out via trial and error but overall I think these are nit picking.

Overall, a very cool, epic game that has had my attention and then some with some truley amazing places to see. I love enetering a cav and feeling like I am walking to the centre of the earth and I wont even mention the music.

The multiplayer side of things is where the game really falls short as most of you already know why and its not the next gen online experience people hoped for.

If I was recommending it, id say its a solid 8/10. Destiny 2 could e a 10/10 with a few small tweeks I think...

Oh, my Titan looks badass too.

That metro review absolutely nails the problem the game has. Maybe I should start reading their reviews more often.

At the moment I feel like Destiny is about where Diablo 3 was at release (minus the long service interruptions and login issues). Hopefully they can keep adding stuff to it and turn it into something great.

High level gear doesn't look different enough to low level gear. Part of what makes these kind of games cool is how amazing high level players invariably look, which in turn makes you want to find whatever gear they're wearing and get it too, driving you to keep grinding and playing the same content, so you can also look cool. If the only difference is the stats on it, no one will give two shits. It's as much about looking increasingly awesome as it is being increasingly powerful.

The actual gameplay - or more specifically, the gunplay - is immense. So satisfying, so fun. But all the stuff around that - the mission types, the mmo aspects, the tower, the classes, the races...it all seems half finished and that's a shame, because you can see and feel that there is an amazing game waiting underneath it all. It reminds me a lot of Diablo, and not just in gameplay, but in that when Diablo 3 was first released it was lacking, but two years down the line, a few patches and an expansion and it's an absolutely brilliant game. This feels the same - barebones, but with something there that just needs more time - something you shouldn't have to say about a game that's been in development for as long as this has.

Great minds, eh? :coffee:

Metro's spot on about it trying to be as accessible as possible for all people and what that results in is over simplifying everything. The character creations the first warning sign. It's got fewer options than creating a Mii. And that bloody spaceship loading screen?? Most expensive game ever? Maybe make two different loading screens?

Gameplay's pretty great but it all feels compacted and filleted to make way for DLC. Although no amount of DLC wil make it the space-epic I was hoping for I doubt. Hope down the line it ends up to be a Diablo III scenario.

Overall a very decent multiplayer FPS. That's it. For now.

I'm really enjoying it, but it has its hooks into me in that compulsion to level up and collect stuff way, rather than anything to do with the story or variety of missions. I actually don't know much about what's going on (I just follow markers whilst tuning out what anyone's saying to me). It's rather disappointing to go on a new mission and find yourself back in the building you were in just before, but more than anything I like simply wandering around getting into firefights. I did that for ages last night rather than progress story missions.

I think the presentation is very attractive, and it looks superb. I think the main problem (others are having) is that it's not a revolution. I'm OK with that - I fully expect this gen to be rather like the last but with more shiny bits.

Its not the sensitivity that is the problem in the crucible in my opinion. It's this weird inertia acceleration thing that is going on. When you start to turn it is very slow and accelerates the rate up to the setting you have chosen, it's even slower at getting up to speed if you are walking around and gradually turning instead of flicking the stick to turn in short spurts. It's really screwing with my head when I play.

Last night I decided to do some lunar exploring, and found the back door into a temple when doing a bit of recon for some Tower wank. So I went for a wander in and eventually found my way into the very depths of the Hellmouth. That was entertaining. I've got the firepower now to take on a the Hive solo mind so it wasn't a big deal, but running up to the front door of their inner sanctum, meleeing it a bit, then running all the way back up and out the top of the Mouth with four dozen Wizards after me felt magnificently audacious considering in the beta I was terrified of the place.

I'm still in the loving it camp. It's all about the gunplay the rest is window dressing. Bergdorfs window dressing, but that's all it is.

It's an old scool game like Gauntlet with modern visuals and effects. The box art of the 80's come to life.

i just think it looks, feels and plays astonisingly well. I just want to get in battles and shoot things, all the time.

The sound in surround sound as explosions fizzle and pop everywhere _ the unholy screams on some of the baddies. Fuck me it's just extraordinary.

Totally agree, did the moon missions in the catacombs last night and they were pure Halo. The loot is a bonus but the gunplay is great

I have a feeling that it would be better if the fighting was in third person.

The game is designed around the first person viewpoint. Take the way enemies run for cover, or flank you. It's excting and challenging but never unfair. You're never circled unfairly or in any way feel that there isn't a chance to survive. If it was third person that snap-to instant combat would be altered.
