Destiny: FIN

My biggest gripe is that up to this point (level 10) I have yet to have a single memorable moment or fight. I cannot distinguish one mission from the next. There was that dark room where you get rushed by the flood, but it's just all so generic and blah. Shooting is fine, levels are gorgeous but they're totally non interactive, PvP is noticeably inferior to Halo... There's nothing here that is BETTER than anything from last gen. Nothing that pushes things forward.

Remember it is a last gen game, just most people are playing the up-port to current gen. I really really hope Destiny 2 is current gen only. I'm afraid though Cashtivision will again milk it for the old gen user base. Destiny 3 in 2018 should be nice at least...

I agree with all your points btw.

Silly question... How do you get into a death match type match? Is it unlocked after a few solo missions or something?

When you get to level 5 you will recieve an invite to see the Crucible quartermaster in the tower. The crucible wiil then be available in the same way you choose a planet to travel to.

I actually think Dinklage's voicework is fine. Not sure why the backlash. Is it cos he's little?

It's ok. I'd really have preferred a little variety in customising the voice though. Male/female with various effects perhaps.

Likewise the character creation is really light on options and you can't even view the finished character all the way round before you start. I created a Rogue Trooper Venus Blugenes battle vixen, only to discover that her mohican looks like a Cornish pasty on the battlefield.

Cool.... I'm level 5 but didn't notice an invitation... I'll check. . Next silly question - is there a way to get back to your character selection screen without closing it all completely down and restarting it?

From the top of my head: If you press options then R1 a couple of times to the settings I think there is a log out and/or change character option.

Just been playing with Banjanxed and we're on venus and its all going off, its defo stepped up a gear on difficulty and had some really great encounters, new enemy types and specific ways of killing them. I guess the shield types determine the type of weapon you need. Purple,=heavy weapon etc. The gmae is so much better on higher difficulty.

Its strange its kind of taken until now to really get going but its far more of what I expected and wanted.

I wonder if the levels will populate with bosses and the bigger enemies when you play on the crazy high difficulty settings?

Banjanxed whose at level21 said there is a level 28 version named impossible.

I spend a lot of time alone in the world surprisingly. Just finished the moon (apart from the lvl 12 Fire Team) and I think I saw four or five others players.

From the little I've played (level 6), I actually really like the level of co-op they've put in there. You're perfectly ok to play alone, and can join in with others if you want but it's by no means compulsory, but when you do you get a different experience. I imagine that over-populating the world would easily make it challenging to control the structure of each mission - you'd get randoms effectively completing objectives for you and it would easily become confusing.

Having said that, I'm really hoping that they've incorporated a couple of set piece moments where the game matchmakes multiple fireteams in to do a big spectacle. I'm thinking something along the feeling you got in the first Halo where you first stumbled across the flood and the covenant taking each other on.

Wife bought me this last night, bless her. Only had time to run through the tutorial and get to the first hub, but finding it absolutely stunning so far. Was sold pretty early on, so have mostly avoided all news and the like until I was able to play it.

Anyway, added name to the list, and joined the rllmuk clan.

Where the HELL are the reviews?! Seriously, feels like forever.

I just have NO interest in buying this. Just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, watched a few play throughs and Giant Bomb's quick look where they sound bored to tears. That's not to say the game is shit, it clearly isn't and it must be doing something refreshing and revolutionary to gain the respect it seems to be getting (That's why I'm so desperate for the reviews). So it really is a personal thing, I think a BIG part of the divide is that my 'group' are people who have just NEVER really got on well with online groups. I've never had a good experience with teaming up. Last time I tried was GTAV where I'd have constant problems with audio, long loading times, waiting for others, failing to organize anything coherent, not feeling in control etc. It's never just clicked with me. THAT is online games for me but others seem to be more lucky/willing to invest to a point where they feel comfortable and in control, I'm sure in those situations that games like this can be a real joy.

It's been two days.

As for reviews, just read peoples opinions on here. Or do you really need to wait for an IGN/Gamespot to write a few words with an arbitrary number on the end before purchasing?

It's not really doing anything that hasn't been done in other games, it's just that it does what it does well and with a lot of money behind it.

Also people are desperate for next-gen games and are hoping this'd be the Oblivion equivalent, even though it's cross-gen.

Think of it like an mmo: you can't properly review it until you've had a couple of weeks with it, because it requires servers to be on, realms to populate, people to hit Max level and start raids etc. Most sites are doing those day by day review diaries and you can get a general gist of their feelings towards it. It'll probably be a week or so before the numbers come in.

And seriously, you have no interest until some random review gives it a good score? An arbitrary 9 will turn you from zero interest into instant purchase? Madness.

Good point someone else made about it being a difficult game to review, wonder when it was made available? Should have been made available a month ago in a sane trusty worthy world. Bah. I'm not interested in any specific review, but I do get a general sense of how good a game is based on large collections of scores.

It's an always online game, requiring the dev servers to be up and running. It was made available to journos at the same time as everybody else, like any other online only game, because you can't review a mulitplayer centric, mmo-esque game if there is no one else around.

Anyone listened to Paul McCartney's theme tune for this, yet? Hmmmm.

I don't really get that review. Imagining in your head you are a bounty hunter and can play with friends doesn't really stop the game being largely average and a grind fest.

Kinda like saying if you play killzone and imagine you are captain jack sparrow it's not a pile of shit.

When does that part happen, which we've seen in the E3 demos numerous times, where a giant ship enters the atmosphere (in Old Russia I believe) and flies over the player followed by a huge battle with this tank on legs and other players.

Is that near the beginning of the game or?

I think that might be a random event during the exploration missions, cos it happened to me in Old Russia last night. Dinklebot was all like 'uh-ho something big is coming' and then a gert ship dropped a tachikoma right in the middle of the gaff. Suffice to say there was only me and some other guy around and we were quickly overwhelmed so I scarpered.
