That said, the balance in the open world sections in this is a bit weird. I had a public event start up last night, where the objective was to kill a high value target. Me and this rando piled everything we had on the guy; I hit him with two rocket launcher rounds, a grenade, my special (titan), and one of those electric melee things, and between us we got his shield down about a third of the way. Then it recharged, and we were fucked.

I would expect that public events would level according to the players in that instance of the world, as otherwise it gets a bit ridiculous. I thought he might be immune to our weapon types, but presumably that wouldn’t count for special attacks and grenades.

As per someone’s suggestion above, it’d be great if you could send out some signal like a flare or a beacon to indicate that you wanted to party up – it seems to heavily depend on you playing with friends. Which is great in itself, but it’d be good if you could play with randos as easily as in, say, Dark Souls.

Nope, only matchmaking is for Crucible (multiplayer PvP) and Strikes (and then only on normal Strikes, Bungie in their infinite wisdom have disabled matchmaking on the weekly heroic Strikes for some reason).

I think raids are specifically designed for playing with friends only, which I quite like to be honest. It feels like a heartfelt choice by the developers to make this mode into something very specialised and unique and personal, whereas the rest of the game, great as it is, feels like a synthesis of lots of other popular things. It feels like Bungie took a stand on this and carved out a bit of the game that isn’t as commercial and broad as it possibly can be.

Boss shields are almost impenetrable to all but one damage type, dictated by the colour of the shield. Pick the right weapon and it'll rip right through it. This is why it's worth having weapons of multiple damage types in your stash.

Special abilities also correspond to different damage types, again dictated by colour. Warlock nova bomb does void damage, Titan fist of havoc does arc damage, etc.

Have I missed something? What's happening in a few weeks?

From what I can tell that's the max amount of time people put up with it before going back to watching TV normally.

OK! What does a yellow damage bar indicate?

Does extra damage to yellow armour I think. Red does more to red, and so on.

You can, click the right stick in and you will get the inspect/invite to fireteam options.

Yeah, it's R3 then press the start button then invite to team. I realised what I'd been doing wrong, when I R3'd on someone the little thing that came up I thought was referencing the dpad, so I pressed right as it looks like you're supposed to then I danced at the person which left me nonplussed. It's a fucking circle with a > on the right of it ffs! I just thought the other three options weren't available because I was low level

This game really tells you far too little about it. I can understand why they do it for something like the Souls games, but this needs more. Even something that should be straightforward like the gun stats are still bafflingly opaque with respect to power vs impact, even after I've read up on what other people think they do. There's also so little to do in the environments themselves, there's a real lack of interactivity making it all feel so empty. I liked wandering around at first but there's so little about it just seems pointless, at least in Borderlands there was always something to interact with and maybe find something in, no matter how small.

It also seems Warlock Sunsigner is solar, Titan Defender is void and Hunter Bladedancer is arc.

Hopefully they'll add in a 3rd subclass for each class to complete the set.

I've been surprised with the smattering of negative remarks, I've had a gay old time with this. But then I've not played and enjoyed something like this since Halo so that makes me think perhaps I'm just ill informed and the congnoscenti are looking for novelty and features that I'm not. I've been pleased I've been able to be useful and have fun in co-op. Fewer kills and more deaths than my peers, but I do my bit. I enjoy the combat and the feel of the controls and the loot gives me a reason to keep playing.

from two days play and experience on the Beta I would make two observations:

1) This is a whole new thing made up of losts familliar things, this means some of it really good and some of it is alien. It definitely built for the long game so of all the gripes so far I think most will either be forgotten when people stop comparing it to halo, borderlands etc or will, hopefully be redesigned by bungie over time as I am sure this will evolve substantially over time.

2) It kinda feels like a structure which still needs filling out; for example, compared to halo it only has one main vechicle (the sparrow) so you just know they will add tanks and whatever they call this version of the banshee. Also, whilst big, there are only 4 world so plenty of planets to add in. I don't think bungie have scrimped at all, there is loads of content, but you can just see the obvious gaps they can fill in. Personally I am looking forward to when the sandbox is more populated with the Fallen arriving in drop ships packing wraits, ghosts and more enemy and weapon types

[puppydog] I love it, it has really drawn me in. I like the fact that I cant just pick off bad guys with ease and that I need to actually engage in a proper firefight, find proper cover, decide when to take shots, be aware of the enemy flanking me and trying in turn to outwit them also.

I can't wait to have the time to spend a proper full evening on this with others [/puppydog]

I'm really enjoying it and love the game Bungie has put together. I think some of the criticism is due to people not understanding this type of game and whilst I sense the overall size of the game isn't as large as people want I think this might be becuase of the retail + DLC payment model they decided on. When people start criticising the AI or mentioning how much better the AI is in Borderlands I generally stop reading. I love Borderlands but know that criticism isn't valid.

Put up with what? It works perfectly for me. What problems are people having with it?

xbone fans can be pleased, theyve really achieved nigh on parity with the ps4

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-destiny-xbox-one-performance-analysis

Overall, the Xbox One version runs identically to its already impressive beta build, albeit with an added full-screen distortion effect, refreshed HUD design, and a crisp 1080p viewing window. With no performance penalty or pared-back visual settings in sight, first impressions suggest a release that very closely matches its PlayStation 4 counterpart in terms of both looks and performance - a state of affairs we're looking to fully confirm in our upcoming Face-Off.

I'm reading that you need to manually set your fireteam invites to open every bloody time you run the game, which probably explains why it's always full of people not co-operating.

Good grief, if so, Bungie.

That option only affects if people can join you without asking for permission though, you can still invite anyone you want.

Not talking about raids, talking about Heroic Strikes, which are just the normal Strike on a harder difficulty.

Anyone else getting occasional 'Removed from the game world' errors?

What aren't people understanding about this type of game then? None of the criticisms I've read seem particularly unfair, it's also worth noting that things may be exacerbated depending on the platform which is perhaps why, being on PS3, I'm finding the much touted social side a bit underwhelming for one thing.

And don't know if you're referring to elsewhere, but all I've seen on here was one person saying they thought the AI in Borderlands was slightly better so that's blowing things out of proportion a bit even if they were wrong.

Yellow bars indicate they're elite enemies with higher than usual stats for their level, but a higher chance of dropping something nice. Same as most MMOS, Diablo 3 too.

Shield bars are always white, when I talk about shield colour I mean the colour of the actual shield effect in the game. E.g. when you shoot a Vex hobgoblin the first thing it does is fire up an orange shield for a few seconds.

Orange shield: Weak to solar damage

Blue shield: Weak to arc damage

Purple shield: Weak void damage

Or to make it REALLY simple:

If the shield is orange, shoot orange stuff at it

If the shield is blue, shoot blue stuff at it

If the shield is purple, shoot purple stuff at it

This is why it's good to have a fireteam comprised of three different classes, you each have a special which can devastate a boss shield (or multiple enemy shields at once).

I still don't fully understand the purpose of Grimoire cards if i'm honest! Just my 2p that i'm loving this game and I'm eagerly awaiting information on the first raids.

Something to collect. They almost impart chunks of story so it's very weird that they're not viewable in-game.
