Destiny: FIN

I do wonder where all the money has gone a bit, I know the 500mil is for the whole series, but it's Borderlands 2 + Dark Souls multiplayer, except with less longevity, less interesting missions, less voice acting and cutscenes, less enemy variety and so on than that lower budget game. It can't all have gone on marketing.

According to IGN the actual time spent playing the story missions was 6h.

If you have the Bungie app on your phone it tells you the exact time you've been playing actual missions. ;)

My total for day one was just short of 5 hours, during which I cleared all the Earth and some of the Moon. I actually played about 7-8 hours yesterday, so the difference is faffing about in the Tower and free-roaming looking for secrets.

Wonder how the reviews are going to pan out?

In some ways I feel they have missed a trick with exploration, and although I love getting gear and guns they all feel quite samey based on the class. keep waiting for stuff to really blow me away like Halo did but not had that fuck me moment yet.. Returning to the same place over and over seems a bit strange, but I absolutely love the worlds and the combat is ace, no denying it.

If i had to sum it up its defend whilst Dinky Donuts pulls info from a terminal for 15 mins. And although thats great fun there hasnt been a great deal of variety. I just hope the banshee equivalent appears, and some big fuck off horrors roll up dishing instant death. Im level 12 on Venus.

This whole 10 year lifespan thing seems really rather ambitious if Im not missing something. When do the Raids unlock?

No denying its great fun, has that hook and really is super polished have no idea of how its going to evolve and worry that once the campaign is done that'll be that. The raids really will have to be incredible.

I feel the same. Tonight I wandered off with my guns and went down into some giger-esque environments. I wasn't doing anything specific but at least thought is be offered something to do. Instead I just reached the bottom. Then on the way back up had to defeat all of the enemies I'd already killed on the way down.

Wasn't great.

Isn't this ripe for Bungie to drop in loads of timed mission objectives over the life of the game? Mix in a few community objectives with ones that can be done solo and it should prolong the life of the game, especially between expansion packs.

I hope so, i'm slightly confused by the Crucible as it doesnt seem like you can host a game, select the map etc? ive only seen 4 and they have all been fantastic but dont know how it all works which is a bit odd, unless I havent unlocked that yet?

Also i do think the tower is a bit daft a most stuff unlocks at level 20, its really not that well explained about the level cap and what happens after.

Can I ask, is borderlands 2 a 'shared world shooter' too, or does it have more RPG style interconnection and banter etc?

It's much more a conventional story driven RPG series which many folk prefer to play in co- op but is also feasible solo. The main attraction is a gazillion different guns which drop every few seconds, and the humour / setting, NPCs etc. I'm not a huge fan but can see the attraction.

That's what they're doing. Daily missions and weekly missions with various modifiers.

That's pretty bad.

I haven't done any patrols yet and I've put more than that into the story missions. I out more than that into the beta! And I haven't unlocked the last planet yet.

Just finished the Moon lvl 12 Fire Team. My word, the Earth one pales in comparison. Absolutely marvellous stuff, the way it can induce panic is very Dark Souls-esque.

I found this one a pain as we kept getting bottlenecked in a little room. My team kept running back there to regenerate and getting trapped as floods of wizards flew in

Level 13 Titan now, pottering around on Venus. I like it a lot and it's a lot of fun. Tried my hand at PvP and did OK actually, although warlocks seem hugely overpowered!

I do worry about the amount of meaningful content once the story is over and done with, though, and as has been said by others, 99% of the sstory missions involve killing your way into a base, letting the ghost thing scan something for a bit whilst you fight off intruders, and then sometimes you'll also have to fight a crappy boss. Seems...lacking.

I keep seeing this 10 year plan thing being mentioned, with many people still under the assumption this will be supported for that length of time with expansions (not calling you out Dave, you were just the most recent person I saw mention it). The documents which came out in court state a sequel every 2 years, with expansions in between. This is Activision, as if we need to know more from their track record...

On May 21, 2012, a publishing contract between Bungie and Activision was published by the Los Angeles Times. The contract originally had been entered into evidence under seal inActivision's lawsuit against former Infinity Ward employees Jason West and Vincent Zampella, but was later unsealed by the judge in that case.[26][27] The contract outlined an agreement between Bungie and Activision to develop and publish, respectively, four Destiny games, with the first to be released in the second or third quarter of 2014.

So yea, we will be sold Destiny 2 as a full title within 24 months. We are not expected to be playing this in 10 years.

Just did my first strike mission with Graham S and a random after soloing to lvl 12. So much intense fun. I was initially a bit non plussed by the game, enjoyed it but felt it lacked a certain something. Now though I've had a few missions that were really tense (particularly the first venus mission :) ) and definitely had the full on Halo flow, pacing and feel to combat. The crucible I'm not so sure about, but then I'm a BF4 addict so it has a lot to compare to.
