Destiny: FIN

I get the impression that the loading times are more communicating with the server times, so imagine they will shorten once the game settles a bit.

I don't think so unfortunately. Though maybe it takes a while to segment the players into instances (16 people per tower instance for example) so there might be a bit of secret matchmaking going on the background.

Guys, I'm adding some FAQs to the first post. Anyone got any recommendations?

Explanation of damage types/what affects damage, what the hell light orbs are.

I'm so bad at this  I seem to loot/pick all the worst weapons, never find any loot worth having and have died to 'misadventure' more than the enemy has killed me; but I still love it.

I seemed to be fairing better as a Hunter but switched back to Warlock, just so Gina Torres can woo me with her velvety voice  Fuck that Fillion guy.

Light orbs charge up your special. You can't see your own light orbs or pick them up, but other people in your fireteam can. You create light orbs by shooting things, getting kills, and taking damage IIRC.

They don't even need to be from people in your fireteam, just other players.

There are some perks later on in the skill trees that make certain skills generate orbs, too.

I think you only create light orbs when you are in a supercharged state yourself and kill enemies who leave them behind. As you say these can be then picked up by your fireteam to charge their special.

Good idea

Also it's probably worth noting that all loot drops are for you personally. Other people in your game/fireteam can't see them. So don't worry that your mate might be low on ammo and you don't want to hog it all, because they won't be able to see it.

Same for chests etc, you can all open then independently and will most likely get different stuff.

Apparently if you run out of ammo, you can run and hide for 30 seconds and your ammo magically fills up again too

Good old space magic.

Didn't know that. There are loads of ammo drops though, I've never come close to ever running out on my primary weapon, yes for the secondary (although you do tend to get a lot dropped for that as well) and more often for the heavy one. To be honest I like that, I like being able to switch around and not constantly worry that I won't have the right type of ammo for the enemy around the corner.

Ok, so I played a couple of hours worth last night, got as far as the tower bit then jumped into multiplayer with Shook and tnman.

Then we ran around like headless chickens, both of my 360 headsets decided not to work, so I could hear shook, but not talk to him. So it took half an hour of faffing about before I discovered double jump and then we managed to complete our objective. This game seems to have no hand holding whatsoever.

Just chucks you in, or is that because I'd gone straight to multiplayer? Would guilty spark have explained it if I'd stayed solo?

So yes, it's pretty, even on 360, and it's fun, but there's a few things that kind of could be better.

The using a stick as a mouse on the interface is stupid, counterintuitive.

I miss being able to pick up guns from dead baddies, I have yet to find any loot.

The lack of pause makes switching guns fraught (like borderlands in multiplayer), I get why there's no pause, but even in single player this grates a bit.

The baddies are pretty much elites and flood so far

There didn't really seem to be a penalty for dieing. I died over and over and it didn't matter, and we rarely got there in time to revive each other.

Also What are the glowy blobs on the floor?

Do you ever get a speederbike with guns on?

But yeah, the hooks are in, can't wait to play it again, and I'm "working from home" tomorrow, yay.

You can also buy ammo consumables from the gun vendor that you use from your inventory to fill up, so if you find yourself swimming in glimmer they might be quite useful to have around.

Not if you just need to stand around for 30 seconds though

The using a stick as a mouse on the interface is stupid, counterintuitive. - I don't agree with this at all. I think the interface is almost perfect and imagine it would be awful if they did it another way (certainly when you get lots of options under each heading)

I miss being able to pick up guns from dead baddies, I have yet to find any loot. - You will get more loot as the game goes on, although mostly it will be ammo

The lack of pause makes switching guns fraught (like borderlands in multiplayer), I get why there's no pause, but even in single player this grates a bit.

The baddies are pretty much elites and flood so far - Pretty much, you even have them fighting each other!

There didn't really seem to be a penalty for dieing. I died over and over and it didn't matter, and we rarely got there in time to revive each other. - This changes in the respawn restrcited zones

Also What are the glowy blobs on the floor? - Orbs of Light, help charge special (see comments above)

Do you ever get a speederbike with guns on? - That would be telling ;) (Yes)

But yeah, the hooks are in, can't wait to play it again, and I'm "working from home" tomorrow, yay.

Crucible is superb. I'm pretty crap, awful sense of direction, but still love it. I'm not quite sure how it's balanced because although it says levels have no effect, surely higher level players have better guns? In any case it's bloody brilliant. I've been playing team deathmatch, sitcking at the back with my sniper rifle and scout rifle, occasionally getting in close for a bit of stabby stabby. Yeah I'm a hunter.

I do think the problem some people are having with Destiny is that they want another Halo. Once you accept it isn't that game it becomes a lot more enjoyable. It's begging you to communicate and play with other players, and that's easy enough to do. Trying to solo the whole thing kind of goes against what it's about, although it's still perfectly playable.

With regards to guns, I often prefer a lower level gun that might have a higher fire rate to just raw power. It depends on the situation. Using the fast reload gloves with a scout rifle, for example, is awesome for someone like myself who prefers the more accurate approach as opposed to the play and spray of the auto rifles.

Guys, I'm adding some FAQs to the first post. Anyone got any recommendations?

How about:

  • Grouping (do you need to play with others, how do you play with others etc)
  • Gear (dismantling old equipment, perks on green gear etc)
  • Football (where is the football on the Tower and how do you slide tackle people)

Actually a question for other xboners (although maybe it is the same on the other platforms). Is voice enabled when you group up in a fireteam? Everytime I've been in a fireteam in both the beta and now the full game I've never been able to hear anyone else and they can't hear me. When playing with xbla friends I've always had to start a seperate party so that we can actually chat to one another.

I presume that isn't the expected behaviour, as the fireteam leader is there anything I need to change?

Thanks metallicfrodo.

I did get a handcannon, this was a good thing, it's probably for the best that my headset stopped working as shook would have been stuck listening my terrible clint Eastwood impersonation as I Dirty Harry'd my way around the level, capping space punks and enquiring as to their current sensation of fortune.

My short version is that it's fun, but not the second coming. Definitely more Borderlands than Halo in that respect. I'm secretly having more fun with Velocity 2X and Resogun. But then again, I was never that hyped for Destiny, it just happened to be bundled with that fancy white PS4.

The morse code idea almost worked!

I shall be on later if you are again.

Destiny has plenty of odd elements but I still want to play it.

I think the communication stuff was network based, it started when tndom left.

Also, I definitely miss picking up guns from the battlefield.

The ghost is a different voice for different classes?

I might switch if that's the case, he's doing my head in.

What are people's thoughts on the different classes? I was a Warlock in the Beta, and am a Warlock again now, but I'm starting to get tempted to try something else. Do the Hunter and Titan have different traversal options similar to the Warlock's glide? Is the Titan's Super really as similar (another powerful one-shot job, but shorter range/easier to aim) to the Warlocks as it looks? Who's your favourite (if you've played more than one), and why?

And so on...

I'm still too into PvZ Garden Warfare to have picked this up yet. The hype is sucking me in but it sounds like the kind of game where, two days after launch, noobs are gonna have a bad time with it now.

I don't think that is true, you will level up really quickly. Also there is nothing to stop people rolling other chars and starting again at a lower level to help you though.

I played as a titan in the Beta and really liked that, especially the splash damage super. However I accidentally roled a hunter now and I'm loving it, it so suits my style with the sniper as the second and a burst type rifle as my main weapon, and I love the thowing knife, although not really digging the super. They both seem to have a very similar double jump, don't think they do the glide.
