Destiny: FIN

Question guys...

I've never played Destiny. I have a PS4. What game do I need to get to play it? There seems a few options... If I get the original Destiny will I be left behind cause everyone is on Taken King? Or can I get that first on the cheap and enjoy it?

Sorry I probably sound like a retard. I'd like to give it a go as it seems popular but it completely passed me by originally.

Cheers!

Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition is what you want, and since the PS Store download of that is only £24.99 in the sale at the moment there's really no reason to buy any other version. That's all the content right there - any other version is a waste of money.

So I've gotten my Warlock to lv40, mostly through Crucible and am now playing through the Taken King content.

I've gotten two legendary items from Crucible, but pretty much any blue items dropping now aren't upgrades. What's my next step?

Keep working though the Taken King content, plus start doing Daily/Weekly things to earn Legendary Marks and more random drops. You can then use the Marks to purchase 280 Light weapons and gear from the various vendors. And then keep playing to get more Marks and more drops... Engrams should decode relative to your Light level (depending on the Cryptarch's twatishness), so as your Light goes up, so should the Light of the stuff you decode, helping you to slowly nudge your way above 280. Also, the Strike playlists can be good for drops (engrams and actual gear) - not 300+ Raid level, but good.

The Daily Crucible rewards you with 15 Marks per account per day, without needing to win the match.

The Daily Heroic Story mission rewards you with 15 Marks per account per day.

The Weekly Crucible rewards you with 10 Marks per win (or top 3??), up to three times per account per week*.

The Weekly Heroic Strike rewards you with 10 Marks per Strike completion, up to three times per account per week*.

* As these are per account, not per character, there's no need to have three Guardians on the go to farm Marks - you can have a single character and still get the maximum Marks each week.
Get your Light high enough, and then start Raiding...

Oh, also:

- Save up your Strange Coins and then visit Xur at the weekend to see if he has anything Exotic worth buying. IIRC, he'll have a piece of Exotic armour for each class, at 13 Coins each, and an Exotic weapon at 23 coins. He also sells packs of "Three of Coins", which increase the chance of getting an Exotic Engram when killing an Ultra, and Glass Needles, which can be use to "Twist Fate" (re-roll the stats on) an Exotic item you own.

- Keep picking up and completing Vanguard and Crucible Bounties, for the XP, rep, and rewards.

I would say before decrypting always equip your best gear, so your the highest light level.

I use an app called ishtar commander for my gear and weapon management. It has a maximum light button which equips all your weapons and gear for you.

Trials and Iron Banner is a good place for some higher drops if you like PvP. Also Sparrow Racing League when that comes back.

I bought the game in the sales last week and have been offered a thing to take my character to level 25 straight away ... Is there any particular advantage in doing this?

Bearing in mind i'm still pottering around the russian cosmodrome to learn the mechanics of the game and understand what all the bits mean.

cheers.

There's no much in it tbh - the basic gunplay is the same with each (and you'll end up using guns you like rather than class-driven)

The jumps are different - but in no one that any particular one is the best.

Supers are the big variation - but all classes have a variety of options.

There is no wrong option - if you follow the suggest above and level your first character normally you can always use the lv25 boost on a second one when you know more about the classes

But behind it all Warlocks look the best with amazing trenchcoats and graphically spectacular supers ;)

Going to be on this the weekend having gotten the legendary edition, whats the toughest and easiest classes to play and why?

Also anyone fancy taking me under their wing ^_^

You on PSN? I'm on as oilswell a lot, if you want to add me I'll join up if you're online and help you out :)

The classes are like classic RPG ones, so take the Titan if you prefer to run in and do max damage with good defense, hunter if you prefer to skulk about hiding and go for crits and surprise attacks and the warlock if you're after a glass cannon, high damage but lower durability build. Warlock is potentially the best for the killing, but in team activities they're all useful. I play hunter because I like being invisible while I sniper headshot people.

Shit week for Xur :( Nothing I need, though I might grab the knucklehead to save me some marks if I ever want it.

Hello! Let's n00b up. Though I'm at 292 light so not so much the n00b any more. I'll buddy up, even though your chat's pisspoor.

Can't agree with this really, especially the bit in bold; a Warlock wearing The Ram is just about the tankiest thing in the game (aside from folk skulking in an armour bubble). It's just about the most bruising CQC brawler out there, even in its toned-down Y2 form - much to the chagrin of many Titans. And the Warlock's self-res can be really useful in all the HM raids (it's great having one at the end of Oryx to act as bait for the Shade), as well as being massively beneficial in Trials.

Hunter is almost certainly the least defensively strong, though. But also potentially the quickest and most agile if set up right. They all have their roles in both PvP and PvE, and like Hexx said, it's mainly about the weapons anyway, and bar six class-specific ones (none of which are exactly indispensable), you can use them all just the same regardless of which class you are. It's mainly their supers that differ, and some of their specific armour perks.

The only undeniably huge difference between them all is that Hunters are cool as fuck, while the others are all gormless twats. Most people don't seem to mind, though.

Yep I'm only jesting. Some of my best friends are Warlocks. I would say that Hunter orbs and Titan bubbles provide better utility for others in the raid. And I'm a bit salty as when I mess up on the HM raid I don't have the magical infinite lives cheat mode to save me from forcing a wipe and the disappointed sighs of my peers.
