Film Soundtracks...

I've really gotten attached to Road To Perdition's OST over the last few years. Really made the film for me; tracks like Ghosts, Just The Feller, Grave Drive, Farm - I'm sure you understand; it's absolutely brimming with that classic Thomas Newman sound. I think he nails getting a really melancholy sound.

His score to Phenomenon was really good as well, the orchard in particualar a really emotive piece.

After watching the movie this week and the listening to the soundtrack on Spotify tonight, I can confirm the Joe Hisaishi's soundtrack to Princess Mononoke should be in this thread.

I'd love to hear the piano solo album. It's out of stock on Play-Asia and I can't seem to find it anywhere else, official or otherwise :)

The Green Mile is one of his best. Revolutionary Road ain't bad, either.

Clint Mansell's soundtrack to The Fountain is one of the greatest movie soundtracks of all time :

Who would have ever thought that the guy behind Pop Will Eat Itself was capable of making such fucking beautiful music.

The Midnight Cowboy has been a firm favourite of mine for years. Shame The Beautiful South spoilt Everybody's Talking though.

And whilst I don't have it on CD just an MP3 the Cypher soundtrack is superb too.

Another album that's mostly obscure to folks; Ink from Jamin Winans.

Waltz with Bashir's score is right up there in my top ten also;

the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack is pretty damn neat as well. except for the Placebo cover of '20th Century Boy', which is gash and almost ruins the film. but this, Ewan McGregor doing 'TV Eye', is peerless - Thurston Moore on drums, Ron Ashton on bass, and Steve Shelley on guitar? i do think so, sir.

Why what was wrong with PWEI?

Anyway Clint Mansells scores as whole have been fantastic, was listening to the requiem for a dream soundtrack this morning.

I tend to listen to a lot of soundtrack based stuff via Last.fm and the iphone. Cliff Martinez's Solaris score is amazing, John Murphy's Sunshine and 28 Days Later stuff, Zimmers Gladiator score.

All the LOTR soundtracks and my most listened to Soundtrack this year so far is Giacchino's Up soundtrack I bloody love it.

The use of Sunshine in Kick-Ass was pretty damn awesome too.

I love Basil Poledouris' music for Starship Troopers and this live performance of the Fed Ned March and Klendathu Drop is just awesome. Too bad about the low volume though.

Here's the original Klendathu Drop:

A couple of classics I heard recently...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4EGY2c7QT4

And something more modern. The beautiful end credits song from Shutter Island. Max Richter has loads of wonderful albums.

And finally something from my favourite soundtrack, of any medium, the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack:
