There's a new DVD release out in the US, it's five dollars on Amazon US.

In the unlikely event that anyone else out there wants to purchase this, it can be had (new) from the amazon UK for the princely sum of £2.28 including delivery. Awesome scenes.

Dunston Checks In

Man, that ape really does turn a five-star hotel into a three ring circus...

For what it's worth, mine's Star Wars (Episode IV, numeral fans). Time to watch it again with the sound turned up to 11. Should I be surprised that no-one's mentioned it yet, or is it properly uncool thesedays (post prequels)?

Either Star Wars 4, Back to the Future 2 or Indy 3.

Probably have to go with Star Wars.

But then there's Jurassic Park, Silence of the Lambs, Terminator 2 and Downfall to deal with. Oh and some of the Lord of the Rings films were pretty good.

I'll stick with Star Wars though.

This is a picture of the soundtrack lp, but it's from my favourite movie...

It's charming beyond belief. All the dialogue is sung, and sung beautifully. It's Catherine Deneuve's first film role, and she looks stunning. The set design is absolutely gorgeous, with the most incredible wallpaper in the interior shots. It's a classic slice of French tragic romance. Plus, the diamond merchant Roland Cassard's theme is probably my favourite melody ever.

I *HEART* Les Parapluies Des Cherbourg!

Same here! And I'm super pumped about seeing it on the BIG BIG screen in a couple of weeks.

SWEEET.

actually, it's a tie between 2001 and Die Hard.

Shit, wish I could go to sydney to see this ;) Hope they move it here to Auckland (or wellington) at some point. Any chance of betting hold of the book with the two autographs on it?

John Carpenter's The Thing

Truly a great film.

I must say I do like to watch Serenity quite a lot these days, probably becuase the characters are well established for me.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to be a sad act, however, and choose:

I used to say 'Blade Runner: The Director's Cut' was far and away my favourite film, nowadays I still love it to bits but have embraced others into a similarly lofty space. The Big Lebowski, Alien, Agitator and A Thin Red Line join Blade Runner: TDC with many others like Pirates of the Carribean, The Thing, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Finding Nemo lingering just beneath.

There's been plenty of Kubrick love in here. Here's more:

Everything in this film is brilliant. The soundtrack. The cinematography. The characters. The dialogue. Too many brilliant moments. Some people say the film loses way once the action ships to Vietnam, but I say they're wrong. The great scenes continue. The prostitutes. Animal Mother. The sniper.

This is a movie for all my irony heads out there. How can you shoot women and children, eh?

Then check the sniper. OH SHIT!

Too many great quotes (always the mark of a classic film) but I think I'll go with this one just now:

Tonight, you men will sleep with your rifles. You will give your rifle a girl's name because this is the only pussy you people are going to get. Your days of finger-banging ol' Mary J. Rottencrotch through her purddy pink panties are over! You're married to this piece. This weapon of iron and wood. And you will be faithful.

Ain't war hell?

Bah, people are being serious.

In that case mine would be Once Upon A Time In The West or La Dolce Vita. I don't think I could choose between them really.

I can't believe Kubrick's getting so many mentions but no-one's said Dr. Strangelove, I've always thought it was his best film.
