Knight Rider remake

Looks fine to me.

I don't know what else you expected. It's in keeping with the old car. I.e. not a super super car, but a more generic US sports car.

The mustang, while being a bit of a shit car, was never ugly, especially when it's done like that.

Sleeker would of been good actually. But what sleeker american cars are there in that price bracket. I guess budgets came into play. 6 cars used. Each car is probably worth 25/30k with non movie mods, a modded corvette or something would be way more.

But it's up to date. It's doesn't have to be sleek anyway.

They shoulda got the original kitt voice back. he's not dead is he. I saw him in boy meets world!

  • 1 month later...

So... the person who was supposed to be voicing KITT left... to be replaced by Val Kilmer. Ye Gods. Still, admittedly he does sound more like William Daniels though... compare:

In fact, the original bloke sounded more like KARR!

Anyway, the premiere was yesterday at the Playboy mansion:

They are showing it on US TV on the 17th I think (so we'll get to see it sometime next week  ).

It wasn't all that bad, to be honest.

I think it has that absurd vibe that the original had, and that isn't such a bad thing nowadays where everything has to be edgy and dark.

I think i'll keep following this.

ps:The Hoff (small cameo) hasn't aged well.

It was better than expected. Is there a possibility of a regular show or are they just doing this TV movie? Is the nice to see the Montecito popping up in another TV show.

I did laugh at the bit with the doors about to be opened at the motel. How long did they drag that out for? ^_^

Shelby must be delighted at their coverage as the Snake badge is nearly always on display on the car.

I'm kinda sad that a Shelby Mustang has to drive 10 miles into the hills to beat some kind of shoddy Ford people mover. Strange that. I could have sworn the 0-100 on those cars was vastly different!

Oh and they must have been going at a whopping 10mph to stop that quickly in front of the truck.

Val Kilmer's voice suits the car.

Fuck me that was shit, so many things wrong with it.

The direction, acting and script were terrible. The worst thing about it was all the music they kept playing, it was so intrusive, it felt like I was watching a music channel.

I hope to god this doesn't get picked up for a series. It was embarrassing to watch.

Aw man. That was pretty much fuck awful from top to bottom... so just like the original then. I'm sorry but I could quite easily switch on my inner nine year old for a whole series of that and mark out for really shitty stuff like KITT going super-pursuit mode and driving out of the back of a cargo plane while keeping my fingers crossed for a turbo boost. It's much easier to ignore the fact something's absolute tripe with the aid of nostalgia.

Still I can't help but feel it would be a hundred times better with Will Arnett as the voice of Kitt. Val Kilmer might be less distracting once he's not clearly dubbed on in post but now there's no chance of someone asking what happened to the bad guys yacht and KITT going "I sunk it! At least I think I sunk it..."

Also I suppose I'm never going to find out the resolution to the cliff hanger at the end of season one of Team Knight Rider. Sigh.

I forgot about the plane :) I was looking at the interior shots and the curved roof made me think it was a plane and I thought they were going to do an airdrop. But no, they dropped him on what must be the longest straight road in the world which they were skimming along for several minutes before he finally left. Brilliantly ludicrous in a way.

Does KITT need fuel? or does he run on some kind of nuclear engine? Ah he runs on Solar and Gas. Hmmm

And you can tell this is new as KITT has a Mac wireless keyboard on the dash.

Yes, KITT needs fuel, just like the last one. The excuse was the fact that petrol is widespread (which is true, although you'd expect some sort of Mr Fusion thing this time round).

I've just watched it. It's.... OK.... ish. I have a bone to pick with the regeneration thing. Bullets bounced off the original KITT, while this one actually gets damaged, although it regenerates in seconds. However, would it take a rocket to the bonnet? I'd like to see that. And the nanotechnology skin thing that regenerate didn't work when the computer was shut down. I mean, please!

Another thing I didn't like was the communications. Not content with clearly "borrowing" an Apple keyboard, they use some sort of silly bluetooth headset as the communications headset. Funny she didn't get stopped in a Las Vegas casino with that huge headset, cos surely they'd have rules on that? It was just bland, nothing like the watch that was the communications piece back in the day.

But the real problem with this is that this new "Val Kilmer" KITT didn't do anything. No turbo boosts, no "ski mode" (which was always a laugh), no smoke, nothing. Bar speed up to silly speeds and regenerate his body when shot. Nothing. It therefore turned the whole show into another cop programme. Compare to the original Knight Rider pilot, in that you had Devon show how tough the car was with a hammer, the car handle itself well in a stock car race with "slick mode" (oil pours out of rear), that... "smoke mode" (smoke pours out of back) and even a turbo boost and then towards the end, a few turbo boosts through and OVER a semi, before finishing by plowing through the wing of an aircraft holding Tanya and her cronies. Yep, that pilot had far more amazing things in than this new pilot. Why didn't they even have "Val Kilmer" KITT just perform ONE turbo boost? That would've been an excellent "mark-out" moment.

So... I'd still look out for a commissioned series, but they seriously need to up the ante and equal or surpass the amazingness you find in the original series.

OK, so the guy they come to kidnap at the start - instead of the ridiculous twist & reveal halfway through in order for him to get away...

Why didn't he just climb into his invulnerable high speed car and drive off?

;)

I suppose the lack of turbo boosting/jumping is cos the cars are quite expensive and they knackered a LOT of Trans-Ams and Dodge chargers making Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazard in the good old days.....

They'll probably do it in that god-awful cgi, like when he came out of that plane at the end.

Which is why a new Knight Rider will never really work. I cant see shelby green lighting a massive scrap heap of cars for a series added to that the impending lawsuit of 'I saw it jump on the TV so I tried it in real life' will probably mean a nuetral KITT whose solution to everything is to crack it using some form of fancy technology.

The pilot could have been great but instead its just averageness personified. It may do enough for a series and I`ll catch a few episodes but nostalgias a great thing. The old Knight Rider was guff but I never cared, I just enjoyed it for what it was.
