Nearly finished it and it's pretty much exactly what I hoped it would be. The only ironic criticism I would make is that it's not badly written enough at times :) Some wonderful phrasing and proper laugh out loud Marenghi-isms. Going to have to dig out a conference paper I gave on Marenghi and Clive Barker and write it up I think.

Went for the audiobook what with Garth reading it.

And that Paperbacks From Hell, is that Paperbacks from Hell: A History of Horror Fiction from the '70s and '80s: The Twisted History of '70s and '80s Horror Fiction Paperback? That would be right up my street as I read tons of those as a teenager, probably partly why I love Garth Marenghi. Stephen King was too professional, I wanted no-nonsense tales of terror, gore, lust, slugs, rats, and the rest.

Been ripping through Paperbacks From Hell and it's fantastic. If you have any interest in all those old horror paperbacks from the 70s and 80s or just like to read about trash culture generally then it's £1.99 well spent. The author has a knack for making anything sound like essential reading, pulling out all the lurid plus points, although he does have a tendency to run through the whole plot in a paragraph; I've had to skip some as there were a few books I fancied reading. Wouldn't mind the physical book as this has tons of illustrations of book covers that probably look better in real life. Should say it's from an American perspective but does mention some British authors like Brian Lumley and James Herbert. Not Garth though, hmm.

The full thing was on youtube for quite a few days. I was really enjoying it but to be honest I often struggle with audiobooks, not yet found a software that I can easily sync between pc and phone. Always end up losing where I am. Honestly, wish you could just get these on Spotify. I'm sure there is some service out there that does this but I just can't be bothered joining/installing something where there is typically only one audio book I listen to every few years.
