I think this song is great, could have come off Stadium Arcadium, By The Way or Californication - which is high praise in my books.

That guitar tone is just so good and nobody sounds like John Frusciante, couple that with the rest of the band and if you like them to start with it's all good (even the comedy Oirish lilt).

Yeah, I’m a massive fan of RHCP, so probably a bit biased, but I think the song is great.

John’s guitar work is on point. Such a great tone in the solo, which starts with the typical Hendrix sound but then ends with an electronica touch. I also think Anthony’s melody/rthyhm in the verses enhances the song as well, even though his singing ability is questionable as usual.

Got tickets to see them live in June, can’t wait!

This is far from vintage but it's not bad, mostly on account of John's playing.

It's a shame Flea threw a tantrum about John having too much control on By the Way. That mellow tone, lush layered guitar and synths, and vocal harmonies of songs like Dosed, I Could Die for You, Tear etc. was the direction I'd have liked them to continue in.

I love the Chillis. They take me back to being on the school field on sports day with a CD walkman that skipped if it was too windy taking men who combine funk with taking their shirts off completely seriously. We weren't the sporty hip hop loving idiots trying to win the 100 meters, we were being cool listening to music that meant something. Of course I now know it's just bullshit rhyming couplets that couldn't mean less but as I've got older I've learned to enjoy them for their ridiculousness and their nostalgic qualities.

And what could be more nostalgic than the return of John Frusciante? And what could be more ridiculous than that accent?

I'm all in basically.

Not a huge fan of RCHP, but I always did enjoy One Hot Minute which is criminally underrated. I know Dave took on guitar duties but listening to it again, it still holds up and has some great songs like My Friends, Aeroplane and Walkabout.

Second single - quite reminiscent of Walkabout to my ears, if that was crossed with the lyrics of We Didn't Start The Fire or Hello (by the Beloved)

I don’t understand after all the hideous abuse and misogyny shit that came out about them that anyone would want to give their dreadful music oxygen.

I guess people must have forgiven them by now. Even Nick Cave was seen recently performing live with Flea on bass!

It's a better album than the last couple without Frusciante, that's for sure.

I don't really listen to whole albums often now so tend to judge a new one by these long standing artists with loads of material by how many tracks I feel the urge to put on my own single artist playlist for them, there were a few on here that passed the mark.

I quite like Aquatic Mouthpiece, it's got a real loose jazzy feeling with those staccato vocals they do so well. I love the almost reggae/funk tinged Let Em Cry, best song they've done in ages.

I'd say if you liked the better album tracks from the era Californication, Stadium Arcadium & By The Way then this album will sit nicely for you - it's got quite a few really good standard Chili album tracks on it.

Just listening to the new album that's gone up, another 17 tracks from the session that yielded the last album.

It's unmistakably them but almost sounds like an AI has been trained to make RHCP tracks, nothing is jumping out on a first listen as particularly memorable.

It's just a jumble of ideas that nobody's bothered to think about for any longer than ten minutes, same as the last album. Any of the verses would fit with any of the chorus' and as you say it all just feels like AI RHCP, or Chillis fan fiction. There are some absolutely fantastic awful rhyming couplets of nonsense in there but outside of that none of it has any value whatsoever. Couplets spoilered below for LOLs.
