Both are excellent but if I had to choose one, EU IV is VERY different from Civ so you might prefer that as a change. It's also better than EL I think, though this is because I prefer that style of strategy to the 4X kind. Go to this thread for some discussion of EU (mixed in with discussion of its stablemate, Crusader Kings II, and the odd mention of some other games from the developer that aren't as good). http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?/topic/218470-paradox-strategy-games-megathread/page-20

Well, they sound amazing. Do you think it's worth getting both CK2 and EU4, or do they overlap too much to make it worthwhile? In which case which one is best, and do I need DLC for them straight away?

If it says "you cannot buy this in your region" when you try adding it to basket, use hola and go through the brazil vpn. You can still buy it fine using paypal and my key worked perfectly.

Is it possible to buy off nuuvem without registering as I'm waiting for a activation email and it's taking forever to come through.

They don't overlap too much as the focus is very different. In EU you are the abstracted all-powerful government of a nation-state, in CK you're role playing as one person trying to do the best for your family in the feudal system.

Not necessarily worth buying both at the same time though as you can easily sink 150 hours into one of them in a month.

I haven't played any of the EU DLC yet (bought it all today). The DLC expansions for CK II aren't exactly required and actually complicate things somewhat for a new player, but they are mostly very good and improve the game a lot*. The most worthwhile of the lot in my opinion is The Old Gods, so much fun to play as a viking!

As for which is better... I slightly prefer CK II, personally, because I love the individual stories and interactions the game produces, it is a really great emergent story teller. Really it comes down to taste. EUIV is a bit more welcoming I think, the UI is better and the game is a little more structured to help give a new player some goals to aim for, and isnof course 75% off just now. CKII is very often available for a pittance in humble bundles and similar things.

These ganes also have reams of cosmetic and music dlc, you can safely ignore that stuff.

* Don't get the one called Sunset Invasion which causes Aztecs to invade Europe, that is just a silly novelty for when you are very bored with the game.

Oh yeah, they are very moddable games, there is a good Game of Thrones mod for CK II

If you're getting EU4, the Art of War DLC is basically required now. It's got so much stuff added in with it, especially user-friendliness interface changes.

One more silly question. I'm wanting to buy Alien Isolation and Shadow of Mordor. You mentioned Alien is region free? How do I check Shadow is region free. I'm buying them for 23.40 by the way. Is that a good deal?

@ Uzi

On the left hand side - it will clearly tell you when a game is region locked

If you haven't already taken the plunge with Crusder Kings 2, I've got a humble gift link I can send your way :)

Bought Banished, the Banner Saga and Spintires.

I've never played a game as compelling and frustrating as Spintires. I don't mean frustrating due to any deficiency in gameplay or quality, I mean I can't even get to the next outpost from the start. I've ragequit three times and keep going back.
