That title bites

Live Free or Die Hard on June 29, 2007!

August 3, 2006

20th Century Fox will release the next installment in the "Die Hard" action franchise next summer over the coveted July 4 holiday weekend, reports Variety.

Live Free or Die Hard will return Bruce Willis to the big screen as rough-and-tumble New York cop John McClane. The film, set to begin shooting next month, will be released on June 29, 2007.

The movie will face Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille, which is scheduled for the same date, while Paramount's Transformers opens five days later on July 4.

Len Wiseman, who helmed the two "Underworld" films, will direct from a screenplay by Mark Bomback.

USA Today adds that the film will feature McClane attempting to stop a techno-terrorist from shutting down the nation's computer systems on the Fourth of July. The story takes place around Washington, D.C.

"Our villain is high tech, but the way McClane deals with him is low-tech," Wiseman told the newspaper. "A fistfight still solves a lot of problems." He added that the fourth outing "will be a more epic movie. It's on a much grander scale. The threat is nationwide."

Wiseman said none of the characters from the earlier movies were returning, and no other cast members were being announced yet.

Fox released the third title in the franchise, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, in 1995.

Wow. Way to flog a dead horse.

And that title is fucking terrible. They should have called it 'Die Had 4: Die Harder Than He Did The Last 3 Times.'

So McClane is going to use the Casey Ryback solution to techno terrorists as shown in Under Siege 2

Strange choice of director going by his previous work. Strange choice of title given the films 'hi-tech' subject matter. Willis is still young and fit enough to do John McClane justice. It was often touted that McClane would die in Die Hard 4. I still think that's a good idea.

The story I read ages on aintitcool sounded rubbish. Cyber-terrorists, Maclane's son and Maclane dodging missles. Please.

Everyone knows the usual criticisms, so i won't go over them accept to say that this movie is about 7 years too late.

Maclane always seemed reasonably smart as a hero so I hope he doesn't just get sold out for his "low tech" methods. The industry just can't make good movies any more.

Terrorist threat on a grand stage and the preservation of American liberty etc. What a load of fucking balls.

Starring the man who was too scared to fly to Europe after 9/11. The title is really bad the plot synopsis makes it sound like a bad 90s straight to video technothriller.

That is generally the industry which makes films, yes.

It's obvious what he means but surely nobody can be stupid enough to make the below statement -

The industry just can't make good movies any more.

And it's not stupid to take hyperbole literally? ^_^

The tone of his post was hardly exaggerated.

Ah well, same old RLLMUK forum nonsense. Film gets announced, film gets slated despite next to nothing being known about it. ^_^

It doesn't take Nostradamus to predict that it will be pure shit.

Knowing who's going to direct is usually enough.

Len Wiseman? Oh for fucks sake.

He's literally the worst fucking action director working today, he can't film a shootout for his fucking life. Paul Anderson could do a better job than that prick.

Even poor directors like Paul Anderson have one film that comes out ok (Event Horizon in this case).

At least Paul Anderson manages to keep his camera on the guns in a shoot-out, and actually bothers to show what's being shot at. Len Wiseman is fucking useless, his idea of exciting is an ENTIRE scene in slow motion, with random shots of people just firing at the screen without a single shot of what's been fired at, and bullets that apparently dissapear into thin air because nothing actually gets hit - neither the characters nor the scenery. He hasn't got a clue. He actually manages to totally fuck up good material.

God, all Die Hard 4 needs is good action director. Not even a paticuarly good director, a Die hard film doesn't need fancy shots and the scenes inbetween don't need to be anything but functional, just a good action director. So they hire the one man in Hollywood who has shown he can absolutely not film a shootout.

That's not a genuine statement is it?

Die Hard 4 sounds waaaaay better than the original idea-something about terrorists ruining July 4th weekend for McClane whilst he's only holiday in Jamaica. ^_^

Of course it is. The director Paul Anderson has made one good film, Event Horizon, the rest of his films are rubbish.
