The electronica thread

Recommended Posts

I always get obsessed about watching the people behind the DJs. It's far too distracting and yet brilliant.

This is my favourite Boiler room for crowd reaction. 22 minutes in there's a guy to the right of Beyer.

Ahhh the crowds for the EZ boiler rooms always get so rowdy, his most recent one is ridiculously good!

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the Plaid thread seeing as I found it from their facebook page, or this thread and it may be old hat to some of you as I'm not sure if it's just been released or was released in December. But anyway - https://touched.bandcamp.com/album/a-distant-rainbow Min-Y-Lin 'A Distant Rainbow' very nice album, some great mixes, proceeds go to charidee etc. Do buy it because it's worth it, only £3 if you are a cheapskate!

Thanks for the heads up on this. Downloading now after listening to a few of the track previews.

And well worth 3 quid of anyone's money, but make sure if you download it you pay more, it's all in a good cause.

I should get the artists name right at least. Also you can pick up a fair amount of his work for nothing or at least very little. Not heard a huge amount by him to be fair but have a look at his blog for links. (Can't link on phone for some reason)

Donato Dozzy's rework of Bee Mask was one of the very best releases of last year.

The album is like a soundtrack for a modern Tarkovsky film, water theme and all.

A copy of Aphex Twins test pressing-only Caustic Window album is currently available on Discogs. The price? $13,500.

As the story goes, the album reached the test-pressing phase in 1994, but was aborted as a full release. This release claims to be one of five TPs (the other four are reportedly owned by Mike Paradinas, Rephlexs Grant Claridge-Wilson, Chris Cylobs Jeffs and Aphex himself, though weve spoken to an ex-Warp and Rephlex employee who says there are more).

The Discogs seller claims to be able to demonstrate [the record's] authenticity & deliver by any reasonable means. Theyre also selling Analogue Bubblebath Vol. 5′ for $1,000 and in that entry, the seller claims that the records legitimacy can be confirmed directly by Rephlex Records.

Update 13.00 GMT: We spoke to the seller, who says he was given the record by Rephlex in 1994. In terms of giving proof, theres no chance of audio as the record is unplayed and advertised as such but there are photos of the run-out groove.

Update 14.00 GMT: The listings now been removed.

Update 19.00 GMT: Were not going to do this all day, but its back on Discogs.

Update 23.00 GMT: The good folks at WATMM are working on a Kickstarter that would turn this test pressing into a one-time digital release. Rephlex is allegedly on-board, offering a license for the 500 people who contribute to the Kickstarter before selling the release on eBay; read more about the plan over on the forums. http://forum.watmm.com/topic/82945-would-you-pay-for-a-digital-rip-of-the-unreleased-caustic-window-lp/page-10

Heres more details on the Kickstarter, courtesy of WATMM administrator Joyrex:

I spoke with Grant regarding this, and he and Richard have agreed to allow one-time duplication rights of the tracks off CAT023, and have negotiated with the seller for a reduced price of 5000 GBP (8368.54 USD as of 8/4), so that reduces the minimum amount to be paid to 10 GBP (16.73 USD). The seller has agreed to remove the listing from Discogs Marketplace for the time being (once the Kickstarter goes live), and apparently all agree that its a good chance to give the hardcore fans a unique chance to own something that will never see the light of day otherwise.

Once the 5000.00 GBP funding amount is met, the record will be turned over to me, and in turn I will contract with someone to produce a high-quality rip (lossless) of the vinyl in turn, all the people that contribute to the Kickstarter will get a digital version of the tracks, which will be provided by WATMM. The license Rephlex is providing for this is ONLY for the 500 people who contribute to the Kickstarter, nothing more.

Before the digital tracks are released, the record will be put up for auction on Ebay, and once sold, 1/3 of the proceeds will go to Richard/Rephlex as royalty payment, 1/3 will be divided equally between the Kickstarter contributors (a discount if you will off the initial purchase amount), and 1/3 to a charity that we will all vote and agree upon (suggestions are welcome e.g.: Greenpeace, World Wildlife Fund). Once the auction is complete and payment received, everyone will get to download their promised digital version.

Update 4/10: The Kickstarter will go live tomorrow April 11 at 10:00am CST (that’s 4:00 pm for those of you in the UK), and there’s now no limit on the amount of contributors (which had been raised to 600). In the words of WATMM admin Joyrex “More money for charity! More money for Richard/Rephlex! More money for the seller!” Head over to the forum to inspect the new plan in greater detail.

Of course Rich James could stop being a dick and just release the thing now, and stop this stupid idea. 9 grand for unreleased music ffs.

Just sayin'

Once its been covered to digital you'll be able to obtain it for the grand total of fuck all, meaning the artist doesn't see any of this money. Regardless of the fact if he doesn't like the material and canned it years ago, fact is its about to be released whether you like it or not, so why not get paid.

EDIT : 1, 514 people have paid on average $16 each for this so far.

New Squarepusher colab. With Robots.

http://youtube/VkUq4sO4LQM

Guitar Robot has 78 fingers and drumming one has 22. Kinda reminds of music from Everyday shooter (well that guitar sounds similar).

This came out earlier this week. It sounds a bit random in places, although the guitars are pretty impressive. Like Mr. Do I prefer his mental electronica to things like this and Shoobyleader One...

And yeah some of those guitar slides are very Everyday Shooter :D

No problem, it's a corker isn't it! I bought it as he's definitely a producer who works hard on his releases and I always get a lot of mileage out of his stuff, I still listen to Broken Soul Jamboree a lot actually.
