There's a window cleaning lift around the back.

I mentioned it at the time, Ste. And the magic boat! You did invent the subway plan though, I'll give you that.

There's a good game idea in that y'know; a kind of Great Escape in reverse. Thief mixed with Heat.

I went back and checked. I'm sure you couldn't access that window cleaning lift from the bottom.

probably. there's a stunt jump i;m having trouble with.

it's the one where the bridge splits off, and there's a small ramp in the middle, with you trying to land in between them.

i've tried a bunch of vehicles but i'm not getting any good results.

I did this one on a faggio. You don't need much distance, so the piss poor speed helps you line it up nicely. Also helps to approach it from the left lane, driving into oncoming traffic.

Only just started this and a couple of hours in and so far it's alright!

Very slow and story heavy and not as quick to let you get on with things as GTA3 was, which is very disapointing. The stuff like dating can go stuff itself. I take it I can ignore that kind of boring nonsense? I really hate the drunken stuff too, first time in ages I've had to switch a game off as it gave me motion sickness. If you have to do many missions like that then this game will be trade-in material as I was close to throwing up.

Hopefully the game starts to get going soon. A slow and dull start is nothing like what I expected from this.

You can ignore the dating if you like, but you can get some very useful benefits from your friends once you spend enough time with them.

You can put your phone on Sleep mode if you want to spend time just exploring and messing around. You won't get any calls and the story won't progress at all until you take it off sleep mode.

Don't worry you don't have to do any missions while drunk! Like you, the graphical effects made me feel extremely queasy, especially when driving! It's a good idea to hail a cab instead of driving yourself. You want to try flying a helicopter while drunk!

Yeah, I got this a couple of weeks ago. I put in a few hours and now have no interest in going back to it at all. Strange, as I loved the last three games.

Although I did get Rock Band at the same time so that may play a small part...

Cheers for the info. I'll certianly try the cab thing. I can't believe some idiot decided to put in a feature that aids motion sickness!

I think the being drunk is quite fun. Certainly the most accurate representation of being totally pissed I've ever come across in a video game. There might be one of the very early tutorial missions that force you to get drunk, but after that it's just something you do for fun with your friends, and at the most you'll need to do it three times to get 100% / all achievements, but it's not necessary for the story.

I finished it last night. I took the

deal

in the end and amazingly, given my track record with random and unfair deaths on the longer missions, I got the final one down on my first attempt.

For me, the last 10 or so missions were a bit of a drag. By this time I'd put over 30 hours into the game and done quite a lot of the side missions, but the whole lack of checkpoints and both auto aiming AND free aiming fucked me off towards the end.

It's still a good game, but I'd rate it an 8, although a high 8 if that matters! It was the first GTA title I actually played through and it's changed my mind about sandbox/open ended games. I've got the Greatest Hits version of Vice City to play once I'm finished my Metal Gear Solid marathon.

I thought that as well. Getting drunk with Little Jacob is the most entertaining, if you turn and watch him staggering about and the things he says. Niko's drunken taxi hailing I found funny too.

Alright I'm confused.

I've completed the game,

I didn't take the deal and Kate is dead. Though I just got a call from an unknown caller and I recognise the voice, it's Kate. Wait, Kate is dead but she's ringing me to ask me out on a date. So right now I'm going to take a zombie out to lunch, what the fuck is going on?

You can do both, you hold down LT or L2 half way in to free aim, hold all the way down for lock on...

On the subject of drunkenness, I always thought that - aside from a funny little effect, shockingly accurate - it was kind of a punishment for taking the laziest, quickest option to dating and side-stepping the minigames.

But you can always go and eat something, which avoids the mini-games as well. I started doing that a lot, just to avoid playing pool.

I've both read and heard a lot of people complaining about both the aiming and cover systems in this game. Did anyone else have issues with either of those things?

Personally I found the aiming to be both intuitive and excellent, and the cover system to be slightly flawed when near a lot of potential cover, but generally excellent.

Pretty much how I felt. Cover system works really well- once or twice I've swung into another cover position when I wanted to break free, but not to any bad effect, and it's a rarity. Cover and free aim makes for some satisfyingly drawn out shootings, and made missions like Snow Storm a lot of fun, although a little bit easy compared to the mental "who the hell am I locking onto now?!" random fights of previous GTAs.

It seems to drag me into cover on another object. Either that or the change in posture is so discreet I can't tell if I'm on cover or not.

Direction = move while staying in cover

RB = leave cover

Direction + RB = move to next available bit of cover

The only times I had trouble with it were due to my own spackhandedness.

In the long fight missions where you are in cover for a sustained period and moving around a lot I thought it worked well (the mission where you rescue Roman from kidnappers for example), and presumably it was designed around these situations.

I would get in a mess if I tried to use it just a little bit in ordinary situations, maybe just trying to use cover for a few shots. I would always get confused as to whether I was in cover or not - it wasn't obvious enough either visually through the UI, or by looking at Niko's animation, whether or not I was in cover, so I'd often end up pressing the RB button multiple times just to work out when I was free to move again, and invariably end up getting shot more than I would if I hadn't bothered.
