The lawyer interview...

Second interview thanks to that Roman shit... I don't know where the lawyer's even is other than it's in Algonquin (from the address on their website) and the game is not telling me where it is on the map... so how do I even attend?

It just occurted to me - wait till near the time of the interview then get a taxi - it'll be listed as a destination !

What does Chase make of this game anyway? I'm not particularly interested, just a little curious after all his evangelizing earlier in the thread.

He's desperate to "get it" but he just can't seem to - It could be his superior ps3 version of the game is unable to load due to this new bug - I'm dying to hear his multiplayer impressions ;)

Look back, he gives it a Chase 8/10. He keeps saying the handling is off, too. And then he starts mocking the DLC before he even knows what it is.

Is "retard" a warnable insult? He's definitely not a retard.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

This is the best game I've ever played. I've got mad skills though. I can see it being frustrating if you're not very good at games. I don't think I've done any mission more than three times so yes, I conclude that's it.

Also, I live in the same city as Chase, will I be banned if I go out and kill him?

Last night was one of those 'best game ever' nights. being alone on the brooklyn bridge surrounded by cops shoutinmg 'give it up, you've got nowhere to go' and then me jumping off felt completely incredible. A totally unique atmosphere in gaming for me and reminded me of that bit in robocop where he was being pursued by all the other cops.

It probably doesnt matter to some but a stable framerate would increase the immersion factor tenfold for me. It really breaks me out of the action when it jerks up.

Hey kerraig, my NAT is sorted for tonight, you on later? I've seen all the weapons and islands now so I'm all ready for the multiplayer. Really glad I did it that way, getting my hands on a rocket launcher was worth the wait.

I'd be up for this if there's room - it's a pity party mode has a habit of not working quite right on occasion and my FL still seems mostly preoccupied with singe player right now.

Nothing beats a hard fought game of cops & crooks - we had somebody trapped in the middle of the river the other day between two islands - he couldn't get out either way until, as one of our team approached on boat, one of his buddies sniped the driver and he was able to use the boat to GTF quickstyle.

Awesome ;)

I think he must be a Microsoft employee planted to add to PS3 contempt. The areas in which the PS3 version genuinely has an advantage are lost amongst his ludicrous drivel, leading to the impression that the PS3 is only purchased partisan fools. That said, some of the 360 bias on display is pretty tiresome too.

It has never jerked once on me. It's not the best frame rate in the world but it has never dropped suddenly for me. The frame rate is constant and my 360 is not even new. Did you clear the cache?

I'm really up for some multiplayer action tonight.

Playing with strangers isn't half as satisfying.

I thought I was beginning to tire of the game last night, but after a 5 minute break I was itching to get back in.

Currently I'm experimenting with fatally damaged cars in intersections, things can get out of hand in those situations.

I guarantee it will be just as bad on your machine. Different people just have different tollerances for frame rate.

Yes, of course. The thing about Crackdown is that it's more obviously designed as a game, a platformer in urban skin, so it would certainly be interesting to see how a four-star agent would perform in a city that has been designed to be (more like) a real city.

I'm guessing - wait for a PC version and mods.

I agree but by saying that the game loses its immersion it's like he's describing that the game slows down to a crawl.

The frame rate does not drop from a great height. I can agree that it is not amazing but losing two or three frames does not slow the action down in any noticeable way. I mean, the action keeps rolling and there is no slowness in the controls. The game has no frame rate problems, it's totally playable in any given situation. It's just not ideal with so much going on.

Unless there are some missions later on that really makes the fps drop and make the game lose its immersion, there are really no serious problems with the frame rate in my opinion.

When there are a lot of cars on screen and you're crashing through them and sparks fly and bits fly around it sometimes slows down pretty bad. I also occassionaly had tiny freezes where the action would just freeze for about a 1/10th of a second or so, but this only happened a few times (and only when I was driving police cars now that I think of it). But compared to GTA III / SA this is pure silky smooth heaven.

What does Chase make of this game anyway? I'm not particularly interested, just a little curious after all his evangelizing earlier in the thread.

The Chase Review

"It's clear the game isn't 10/10 by any means, but I think even a 9 is too high because of the fundamental flaws in the design: the boring missions, the lack of checkpoints, the poor shooting/cover system, and the ultra-loose and poorly positioned chase camera. Then there's the smaller issues: the poor frame-rate, the freezing bugs, the online bugs, the melee combat, the on-foot controls, the shooting from inside your car thing which doesn't work, the overly-scripted missions not allowing you much freedom, and so on and so forth.

And you know, it's cool that it's got all those fake TV shows and everything. But the TVs in The Darkness had To Kill A Mockingbird. And it's great how they have 18 radio stations...but with the most uninspired soundtrack of any 3D GTA yet. They have a funfair which you can't go on. Over 10 years ago Final Fantasy 7 had a funfair that not only you could go on, but the rides and stuff were actually great fun and made you keep going back to it. The bowling and pool and darts mini-games in this could not be more dull if they tried. Maintaining friends isn't fun, either. It's just something to do in the game.

It's basically a high-def GTA: San Andreas with Euphoria, but with more restricted locations, more restricted weapons, and more restricted vehicles.

Euphoria and the lovely lighting stops it from being a 7/10 game. And that's the truth, kids.

Final Score: 8/10"

I'm with you and I'm guessing DangerM is too, the point is that it bothers some people. I'm usually too busy having fun to notice.

Yeah, the frame rate isnt great, but the game is amazing and it's never bad enough that it actualy makes the game hard to play, it just can be a bit distracting. Going back to any game after the super smooth CoD4 always takes a bit of getting used to.

Well, it's a 10/10 for me and I didn't like the other 3D GTAs at all. Your loss I guess.

What makes GTA4 so different to San Andreas that it makes you give it a 10/10 compared to hating it? Genuinely curious.

The way I see it, Chase, GTA games were getting a little like Bond movies, progressively more outlandish. With Bond movies they get to a point where they have to have a series "reset" and go back to basics. The same is true of GTAIV. I think the new technology also plays a part. They don't want to throw everything they have at the next gen just yet. Mark my words... the series will break out the parachutes again. Until that time, wrap up tight in that GTA duvet cover, rest your head on your San Andreas CJ pillow, and dream of what's to come.

I'll be enjoying an excellent 10 out of 10 game in the meantime. ;)

The cover system is properly shit though.

When popping up and shooting from cover, not only is there a second's delay in getting the shot off, but amazingly your aiming reticule actually MOVES, so the headshot you wanted to take isn't gonna get taken unless you deliberately aim a distance wide to start with. It also breaks the camera something devilish.

The hand to hand combat is one of the worst things I've ever seen in any game - surely it's harder to program something NOT to respond to button presses than it is to just make him swing a punch every time you tell him to?
