GTA:IV Official Thread

Yeah, I was going to compare it to Assassin's Creed. This is clearly much better though. For one thing, the dialogue doesn't induce comas and the game has much more variety. I've just unlocked the second island and it all finally seems to be coming together. I'm genuinely interested to see what happens next.

Yeah - I keep getting texts from Roman saying how we're drifting apart, and now I don't have his taxi service on my mobile any more. I assume if I wine and dine him, it'll come back.

Fuck, that's not what I wanted to hear. I was hoping that those services are safe once you get them because I'm not very interested in the whole taking friends out aspect.

If you put your phone in sleep mode you can still go to missions can't you? So if you do that and Roman, etc can't text you, will like/respect go down over time or stay as they are?

There are 2 exclusive DLC packs for 360 but on top of that there'll be cross platform DLC and to say that missions are "clearly the focus of the episodic content" is very presumptious - For $50 million I'd expect MS are looking for a little more than that.

That's just one thing - the possibilities for the DLC are fucking huge.

I genuinely hope you're right. I really can't think of anything that could be added apart from a new 'campaign' that could justify purchasing episodic content; but lack of imagination is probably why I'm not a games designer.

The lawyer interview...

Second interview thanks to that Roman shit... I don't know where the lawyer's even is other than it's in Algonquin (from the address on their website) and the game is not telling me where it is on the map... so how do I even attend?

Aren't you told to go to an internet cafe and apply via the net?

You

submit an application via the website then I think they text you an interview date & time

make sure you don't miss it and dress smart ;)

Interview mission:

I guessed the building from the picture on their website, and hung around a few game-hours before, and still didn't know where to go. Eventually a tie icon appeared showing me where to go exactly, so just wait for that.

Quick question: are there extra restaurants and that kind of thing which are added to the map once you discover them? There seems to be a lack of eateries in Algonquin, and I'm wondering whether I should go exploring. The Heli Tours icon is added to the map once you stumble across it, isn't it?

There should be a Crackdown cheat/mod where you can unleash the super powered up agent from Crackdown on this city.

;)

Yes, of course. The thing about Crackdown is that it's more obviously designed as a game, a platformer in urban skin, so it would certainly be interesting to see how a four-star agent would perform in a city that has been designed to be (more like) a real city.

See my post above! Jeeeez

It's weird but fortunate you can buy hotdogs from guys on the street, during an intense gun battle with police in the streets of Algonquin. One of those kept me going during

Three Leaf Clover

. They don't run away for some reason.

I love the little asides in this game, the little green men icons that pop up on the streets, triggering another mission. Whilst on my way to the interview, I bumped into an old friend. I was pushed for time, but decided to help him. Without spoiling anything it was fun, and added to the sense that I'm walking and talking in a living, breathing city, as I dropped him off, said goodbye, and then hightailed it to the interview with minutes to spare.

One area I'd have liked to see expanded - If I go to clucking bell with gun in hand (i.e mid police battle) she won't give me a burger - fair enough, but if I pop her in the head I'd like to then vault the counter and help myself to as many chicken burgers as I like - could've done the same with the gunstores only had them armed and very dangerous like in VC/SA.

One of the things Saints Row got a bit more right.

Love little quirks like this, it's what makes the game for me. Am being forced into restarting it as I brought it into work today, was on my first date with michelle and shot her in the chest with a shotgun. She didn't die but just ran away. After a while it all ends with a cutscene with a still bloodstained Michelle thanking me for the date and commenting how she didn't realize I was an bit violent.

Ah ok, but the first time I didn't get a tie, icon or anything because of the Roman shiz

Hmmm which Roman shiz is that, where you have to go get him urgently? Don't want to spoil anything obv. That happens at the same time then? For the interview it could be you have to be in the area already for the icon to appear. The office is down on the bottom row of buildings, on the main island, slightly to the right.

I was wondering what those green men were about.

Yes there are. I found a garage in Aldernay City that wasn't on the map. I drove in, it resprayed the car and when I drove out it was then on the map.

I missed the first green man icon and now haven't had one for ages. Do they come back or is that it?

They seem to appear randomly, I've come across a couple that I've chatted with and done missions for, and a couple I didn't have time to stop for.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

This is the best game I've ever played. I've got mad skills though. I can see it being frustrating if you're not very good at games. I don't think I've done any mission more than three times so yes, I conclude that's it.

Also, I live in the same city as Chase, will I be banned if I go out and kill him?

Also, is there anywhere to buy glasses other than the very first store?

I do look amazing, though. With my black suit and clear glasses I've got a very Falling Down vibe going on. I absolutely love walking my way through buildings with a shotgun looking like that. Shame the shotguns are underpowered against people.

Making you walk by default is genius.
