GTA:IV Official Thread

Yeah, i defended him in that thread too. Buts its more gauling because he doesn't even seem to like the game.

Suffice to say i do hope you PS3 owners enjoyed the SAME 16 player fun we had last night coz some of us were in tears.

Namely the 15 player Ice Cream van race.

Truly legendary scenes in that one the side on collision that send you and me flying into the water was possibly the most amusing thing that's happened in a game in ages.

I don't suppose anybody else has noticed anything weird going on with the volume levels in this? I'm just using a standard 2.0 setup, with the 360 set up along the same lines, but I routinely have to turn the radio off to be able to hear anything else and the dialogue is consistently whisper-quiet compared to the background ambience.

Is there an in-game audio output setting that I've missed and has defaulted to 5.1?

I have the same thing. I couldn't find a setting to change so I just put the subtitles on. I'm glad I did cus there's been loads of dialogue come up that I would have completely missed otherwise.

Yeah the first on is a bitch, turn on the satnav thing but take a left instead of a right at the start. Still took a few goes to get though.

He only has a few that require to be on time thankfully.

Edit: for Mr Do and Fox Mcloud talking about LJ's deliverys

The Snow Storm.

No. Not ever. Of course I can take out the drugscum without taking a hit but it took me 10 minutes to find my way out of that nightmare, not-even-mapped-on-the-radar claustro-hellmaze even when the feds weren't coming at me a dozen at a time (because I hadn't found the coke the first time despite checking every room)... finding my way out under intense heat with a camera which simply cannot handle the tight environment is simply never, ever going to happen. Especially with a 6-7 minute drive via a gun shop for necessary armour before the mission even fucking starts. These missions are designed by someone with no fucking idea whatsoever; presumably the people with a fucking clue about basic game/challenge design were working on other shit.

See you guys online.

Snowstorm is quite easy really. You might be doing it wrong.

Yeah, I didn't even need armour. I don't know how you didn't find the dope, it's required to spawn the feds who are limited in number anyway. I hold the right trigger lightly which gives me an over the shoulder cam with reticule and free aiming, no camera woes there.

I dunno, I was playing violent games and watching porn and Scarface and shit at age 14 and I'm not a mental nutter who's goes around battering people or anything.

It's all a question of maturity really.

Exactly. My eldest son turned 14 yesterday and he had a party with 5 mates there. I was playing GTA IV while his mates were arguing about which was their favourite Ray Charles song. I had a stiff drink then went to bed and left them to it.

Man, you're not having much fun are you!

Like Dizogg, I just shot the first 3 or 4 feds and then legged it! Did it second time.

Also, not sure who else has noticed, but if you

walk round the back of the building before you go in there is a ladder you can climb to get to the upper floor, which gives you a better position to kill the drug guys.

-------

Just finished the construction site/sniper rifle mission, which was great.

I stopped a few times on the way down the lift as you can see more union guys to kill through the scope that you can't see from the top of the building. I also drove right through the site and up the ramps, which made it a bit easier as you can mow people down and use the car for cover.

Sweet.

If you go to the audio options it's set to default at playing in 5.1.

Change it to "stereo".

Having tried this, I can confirm that it was already set to Stereo. I've had to turn the subtitles on to avoid giving myself a headache.

Piece of piss, drive your car straight across the parking lot from the mission start and park it on the side of the new hospital that is closest to the old one, run around the right hand side of the old hospital around to the back, climb the ladder, shoot the two people on the same level as you, shoot the gas canister that is inside the doorway to the left, jump down, run in and grab the coke, double back to the room you entered, jump on the wooden bobbin thing and jump from there to windowsill, climb out the window thusly avoiding ALL the police and as they fight with the gang members that are in the building, run back around the building the way you came, jump in the car that you left on the side and then drive off

Just done the mission with the

bikers in the park.

Whilst they were all standing in the park and shooting, I phoned the cops to come but they never did. Phoned them again and they still didn't. Ended up killing all the guys myself which was surprisingly easy.

Ha snowstorm was ace, did it on second go. Some will find a sneaky solution but I took the situation head on. The trick is not to get nervous about it, just take your time, hide and take em 1 by 1.

Missions are starting to get really good now and I'm loving how different they can be. I had a few goes on one mission where sometimes main enemy would hold and wait at the top floor and other attempts where he would decide straight away to make a run for it, escape out the building and the fight would continue all over the island in a frantic car chase! In some cases the police were involved and other times they were not.

I've got 19 hours clocked. No idea what percentage.

The mission where you kill Goldberg was awesome. On my first try I shot him and then tried to fight my way out. Got absolutely slaughtered. So the next try I knifed him in the back, smashed a window in, jumped out and then legged it down the road. Awesome.

And the first PS3 player to 100% the game done it in like 4 days 19 hours. That's like how long the game has been out. :(

Only used it in two or three missions so far, but the cover system is useful. I don't particularly like being in a building full of guys shooting at me in third person games normally, but cover in this makes it a more enjoyable experience.
