I don't suppose anybody else has noticed anything weird going on with the volume levels in this? I'm just using a standard 2.0 setup, with the 360 set up along the same lines, but I routinely have to turn the radio off to be able to hear anything else and the dialogue is consistently whisper-quiet compared to the background ambience.

Is there an in-game audio output setting that I've missed and has defaulted to 5.1?

Disconnect the net connection. It's happening because the game is uploading stats to the website.

*sigh* Yeah that did the trick. I disabled Media Server stuff first though as I hoped it woud be that.

Great. So I can't play online. Not that I could get much of a game anyway. I've managed 2 quick sessions since it came out and that's it. Rest of the time I get connection refused.

Cheers fella. I can at least get on with the singleplayer mode while Rockstar learn what a fucking Timeout means in the comms world. Cocks. Can't believe no-one tested THAT.

It seems that the joke is on Chase, as he doesn't actually like the game that much.

Who cares about the format?

My sister is asking about this game as my 14 year old nephew is asking for it. I told her, after my 20 or so hours of play I have no problem with the violence but...

- a lot of swearing, not as much as SA but still quite a bit. Occasional use of the C word!

- Lots of drug references, worst being coke sniffing

- Lots of mild sex references, like invisible sex with moaning. Covered lap dances.

Personally I don't see how playing this game would suddenly make him use the C word and get into coke sniffing etc. Would it be wrong to give her the go ahead for him to play? Legally wrong but personally I think the whole ratings thing is a bit stupid.

Don't knock Chase, he's my wingman.

When you're playing online you mean...oh hang on, OH NO I DIDNNNT! :(

Srsly all this format stuff. Bah I don't care anymore. It's all ended, the game is out, etc. So what! We've all got it (I've not played it yet lolzor), so let's just revel in it.

OR, go "OMG MISSIONS ARE RUBBISH". What-ever...

Dunno really, depends on how mature he is.

Glad i'm not the only one experiencing this. It does sound like it is trying to do surround sound. Since I started it I could tell something was up. Anyone know the problem?

I'd hate to side with censorship but I'm afraid I'll have to recommend against your giving this to a 14 year-old. He's just old enough to 'get' the drug and sex references rather than them sailing over his head, and probably not quite mature enough to rationalise them.

This is the whole reason violent games get so much shit off the media.

And there is actually proper sex, not just covered up. I went to a hooker earlier and I could clearly see her wanking Niko off and then climbing on top of him, moaning. :(

Personally.....

I. would. freak.

But then i'm a dad with kids. Honestly though...yes.

It would be wrong.

Would I be abused for suggesting that the obvious reason that its sold more ps3s is because more people had 360s before?

as regards letting a 14 year old play I probably wouldnt. If your gonna stop him playing/seeing anything down to his age It would be this game

If you go to the audio options it's set to default at playing in 5.1.

Change it to "stereo".

Usually im quite casual towards the idea of children under 18 playing the GTA series, afterall I'm only 18 myself and I probably played Vice City and SA at 13-16, but the first thing I noticed was how much more 'adult' this game is. As has been said before the 'Cartoon Violence' is tuned down a lot and there's a lot more wieght to killing someone and the sex references are there in plain sight from the beginning.

It depends how mature your nephew is, I would probably be fine with it at 14 but I can't speak for anyone else. It's definately a lot more adult and 'heavy' than previous GTA's.

As ever, Ben speaks the truth.

Excellent, thank you. It's a bit weird that it ignores the dashboard global settings that every other game abides by - I had to change my Y-inversion when I first started as well.

I let my boy play a bit of it, he's four but I let him play the driving around bit with the sound down - he's a very careful driver. Anyway, so I go out the room, for, like, a minute and I come back in and he has a gun and he's at the airport shooting at planes.

How did you get that gun? I go, because I didn't fucking well have a gun. I hadn't got to LJ yet.

He didn't know. So I turn the console off at the mains in case he totally fucked up the game.

How did he get the gun? There's a sixasis training at the airport. Is there a gun training too and if so which button do u press?

I do like the way you can almost recreate that Dairy Milk Ad at the airport.

He's either found a secret one or beat someone up for it.

Well, he was nowhere near the airport when I left him, for, like, a minute at most. He certainly never drove there.

There must be a gun tutorial but I'll be fucked if I can find it and he can't tell me what he did.

I think the violence is the main problem. Not that I think it'd turn a 14 year old into a thug, but it is incredibly graphic, and stabbing a random pedestrian has more weight this time around because it's more realistic.

And then continuously jamming the knife into their ribs as they lie on the concrete.

Man, this is great.

There's a multiplayer tutorial, which I presume gives you a gun.

I dunno, I was playing violent games and watching porn and Scarface and shit at age 14 and I'm not a mental nutter who's goes around battering people or anything.

It's all a question of maturity really.
