GTA:IV Official Thread

Yeah - its to much to take in like that. Like anything fine, take it gently.

Something I've noticed is that in this thread people have described a couple of places where body armour can be found

Some of it is very well hidden. One suit of armour is in a cup (ad advert board for a cafe or something) - to get to it you have to run off a train platform onto some roofs and make your way across. Its a it tedious but gives you the oppotunity to view the word from an angle you don't usually see it from and at a slow pace - unlike, say a helicopter.

TRAIN MISSION :

Like I said earlier, the train mission was a bit annoying only because I pre-empted it and drove to the destination on 2nd try and it fails you when you get too far from the train not as you would expect when he gets off the train and escapes. First thing to remember is u can see the train track and follow it, so keep under it as long as possible and get ahead of the train on the straights. Second thing is you can see the train track on your radar its a lighter colour than the roads so you can see which way its going. Just keep to the roads closest to the train tack, there sonly one bit where you have to go left then right I think while the train cuts across the corner. When you get to the station hurry up then you can shoot him befor ehe gets to his car and drives away.

From the start of the train mission you should

be on a hill overlooking the river bridge on your right, train track and train on your left, you are about the same height as the train when u start and you can see it. You drive down and then under the railway track and the train is directly above you.

If not, then it sounds like a bug

Hmmm, just agreed to go out with Roman for a bit, did the strip club, got drunk*, went for chicken and then another drink, and it still hasn't asked me to take him home!

My safehouse icon isn't on the map anymore and it won't let me save "mid-mission".

*First time I've done that. Man it's FREAKY! By the time I'd managed to get into my car and started swerving down the road I felt pretty queasy in real life!

Fooksake!

Took Roman to a diner, we got in there and he collapsed! My safehouse reappeared but I wasn't sure about Roman so I reloaded my last save. Now Elizabeta has disappeared from the map and I no longer have access to LJ's special feature! Grrr.

Edit: Just now done the train mission for the first time, first time.

Yes, but then there is no road under the track... you have to take a left or a right turn away from the train, and either is an instant fail.

Finally got onto the first big island. I'd just done a mission, and was driving whoever it was back home.

I suddenly smiled as I realised I was driving across the big bridge, heading towards the big city with a big smile on my face

:(

So what's the difference between killing

either Dwayne or Playboy X

? I went for the former.

And yeah, some more places to get armour would be nice- I keep having to drive all the way to a gun shop.

befreind Dwayne and he sends you a gang "on tap" later in the game apparently.

Was convinced was going to despise game. Thought hypermasculinity. Thought tedious violence. Thought infantile humour. Then played game. Was right. Dead prostitutes. Exploding helicopters. Straight strip clubs. Totalled cars. Fag jokes. And yet. And yet. So much more to game. Game beautiful. Game huuuuuge. Game thrilling. Game unparalleled. Rendered speechless by game. Overwhelmed by game. Game forgiven. Game adored.

Yeah I can't believe they didn't have gay strip clubs. Wouldn't it have been great if in Goodfellas they all went to a gay strip club and had chippendales grinding on their dicks!

"Am I a fucking clown to you, am I here to amuse you?"

"I dunno but I have a boner for you lolol"

I'm waiting for a certain time so I pulled up in the city center listening to Electric Choc or whatever it is, just having a look around whilst listening to that. Then I saw someone playing the saxophone so I turned off my radio and am now listening to him.

The save system seems really dodgy though. I switched the game off after it autosaved, and when I put it back on again a few hours later it automatically loaded up a save from ages before, which I only noticed because i had about a quarter of the money I'd had when I switched it off. And my 360 clock seems to have reset itself somehow - a couple of my saved games were dated 2005. Weird.

Yeah, my saves seem to have messed up slightly.

From now I'm I'm keeping a pair of proper saves (i.e. on the bed) running in parallel.

Yeah I didn't like Scarface at first because Tony Montana wasn't a mincing queer who ran around shouting "I'M FREE!".

I take it you haven't met

Florain/Bernie

yet.

In a game chock full of well-written, clever characterisation, he's the exception. Bit of a disappointing one too.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug because it fails me pretty much instantly. So there's no way I can progress the game from here.

There is no way of not being failed within a few seconds from the place it starts me and the train's position.

It's not a bug, you're just shit. Get over it. Go and play Nintendogs or something that your brain might be able to cope with.

WINKY

News just in: it was a bug, wrong spawn position, and after I'd rebooted the machine I did it no problem

Well it's nobodies fault then. Phew.

The effort put into the TV alone is magnificent. Especially the space marines one (insergiscan!). I wasn't that keen on the game to start with but with better cars comes better handling and now i'm getting to know the map a little bit better. The way the cops react is fantastic. I saw one cop car flip on the motorway, the cops tried to turn it over, gave up and did the long walk back to their station. Got the achievements for the 4 and 6 star wanted levels and whilst doing a police chase i managed to get the 10 cars exploding one because the cops were all pilling into each other and then it all just went up.

How common are 360 DRE's as I'm getting one every half hour or so. Haven't got access to another copy as where I bought it from have no more stock yet. Any (semi) foolproof way of getting rid of them?
