I've been to the gun shop AND I've had jacob's gun too. Now I have none so I'm guessing that when you get arrested you lose all your weapons? Is that right? Or do you lose your weapons when you die?

I could go to buy another gun but I only have $300 and the cheapest gun is like $1200.

There are free guns

a MP in the alley behind the pool cafe and a shotgun in the private room in the strip club - probably more but those are the only ones I have found so far

Well tooled up presently and eager to maintain this as long as possible so yes evade - easy enough so far I have found.

I was running from the coppers through a park and heard the police radio chap say "Suspect heading west on --- Street" (i forget).

So naturally I head east, and watch the icons on the radar reach the turn off and head in the wrong direction.

Class.

What the fuck?

Chasing the train

... it takes literally 7 seconds to lose it and there's no on-road route I can possibly take to not lose it. Fuck this shit. All I'm doing is repeating the drive to the start of the mission over and over again.

Seriously, this game is a ten but these missions are fucking abysmal... would Super Mario World still be a 10 if you had to eat shards of glass to unlock the later levels? Because that's how much fun these fucking missions are.

Thanks for the tips. So there's no reason to just let yourself get arrested and it makes more sense to be killed if you're in that much of a sticky situation?

I'll get the gun from the strip club. I enjoyed getting a private show but it needed a first person view.

Not to be a sour sindy, but the missions in Driver 2 were more fun than the missions in this.

Has someone stolen Chase's login details? All that hype. Played online yet?

Oh and it's apparently the uploading of stats onto the Rockstar Social Club during the loading screens that is causing the loading failures. Turning off the net connection does the trick.

Just turning off the media server worked for me, so I could still play online during the game.

Why are people struggling so much with the missions in this?

If you shoot well and drive well, you'll clear everything first time.

The train goes forward. The roads I can drive on go left or right. Either way is an instant mission fail. I would have to drive through a concrete wall to follow the train.

Oh, and I've had no problem with the missions so far, they've been very easy (with manual aim). But they're still totally shit.

Biggers is right. Go out and practice shooting and driving.

You need to be whipping round those corners, keeping your eye on it with B.

It's not hard. It's really not.

Hmmm, just agreed to go out with Roman for a bit, did the strip club, got drunk*, went for chicken and then another drink, and it still hasn't asked me to take him home!

My safehouse icon isn't on the map anymore and it won't let me save "mid-mission".

*First time I've done that. Man it's FREAKY! By the time I'd managed to get into my car and started swerving down the road I felt pretty queasy in real life!

The train mission isn't difficult. I failed it on my first go because of the dead end but it's really not a challenge.

Haven't been reading the thread much since release.

Abysmal

Is this the rllmuk backlash that I'm defending here ? If so I can only quote LJ "Gwan ya bombaclot pussyhole be bringin they moany faces to the table seen"

Seriously, it fails me within 5 seconds. 7 seconds tops. Starting to think something is wrong beyond the mission design because it's genuinely not possible here.

I haven't had the slightest problem completing all the other abysmal missions til this point.

Can't really give any tips without drawing the exact street route, but there's a couple of points where the tracks go over buildings and you have to go round, but as Biglime says if you just burn round the corners and glance at the radar for the next road to turn down, it's not that hard. If you know a go-around bit is coming up burn in front of the train so you meet it on the other side, instead of always staying just behind it. I failed that one just once because I got out at the station looking for him and he left by a different exit to a waiting car. The first part was perfectly doable. Hope that's not a spoiler or anything btw.

Um, I really don't know what else I can do.

Tried many times. I set off, within 3-4 seconds Niko gets angry and at 5-7 seconds the mission is failed.

There is literally totally fuck all I can do to prevent that happening and I am done trying.

I've put up with twice as much in the way of shit missions in this game as I have from any previous GTA but that's only because I can't download a completed save file this time.

Hmmm, maybe you've been spawned in the wrong place after the cutscene, that's the only thing I can think of as IIRC that mission was a piece of cake.

Am I the only person actually enjoying doing the missions then? There have been some really good ones recently but I am getting closer to the end. Well I think I am anyway, I've unlocked all the guns.

I've loved the missions.

Snowstorm and the union one particularly. GTA's a game you need to play in the right spirit. It's always been the case.

I like em.

I'm paticluar on that mission now - straight outta French connection - obviously. I'm suprised they haven't scripited a pram full of cans.

union one

I enjoyed that too. Felt like a mini level in its own right. Theres probably quite a few places on the map they could do those.

Did someone say in this thread where a helicopter could be found lying around? And an RPG? I'm taking the game round to a friend's tonight, and I'm going to need to get him hooked quick, so that would be really helpful. (I don't have Alderney unlocked yet.)

Also, I've found the cheats on Gamefaqs that might help him get into it. They include spawning vehicles, but I don't know what each of the vehicles are. Can anyone enlighten me?

The list of spawnable vehicles:

Cognoscenti

Comet

Jetmax

Sanchez

SuperGT

Turismo

Annihiliator

FIB Buffalo

NRG-900

Anything of note there?

The

union

one was kind of fun but only because of the sheer amount of bloodshed involved. If it were actually a good mission in a good game, you would've been able to

choose (or would have had to find) your own vantage point for sniping (and you wouldn't be told about the lookouts, you would have to figure it out or ignore them at your peril), and all the union leaders would've been identified from the start

so as to avoid the obscenely turgid linearity rearing its Merrick-like head.

Yes i agree with that - but because you have all the semi destructable scenary and objects, and good physics - its far more fun then most shooters. Its not highlighted to well in that level but when your behind an overturned car against cops - or mission AI, with glass and debris flying it feels better then most FPSs let alone third person ones.

My PS3 copy has started to freeze. Could it be anything to do with it being inside my machine since launch? Is that generally bad?

Try turning off the media server in the PS3 network settings and if that doesn't help, disable its network connection completely. Just see if it makes a difference - It did for me when mine start failing to load up at the start.

I'm enjoying the missions themselves, the only thing that pisses me off about the single player is that when I have low health all the fast food joints and hot dog stands vanish and I drive around for an hour looking for them before I can get on with the missions again. When I don't need them they're everywhere!

Something I've noticed is that in this thread people have described a couple of places where body armour can be found. I've looked for ages and found neither of them, but I've found others. I think the placements might be randomly different or something.

From what I remember there's a road pretty much directly underneath the track the entire way.

I'm really enjoying this. Taking things pleasantly slowly, having fun blowing shit up and doing a few missions. Just letting it all take it's own slow course.

I can't help but feel that some of the criticisms come down to people racing through it, rather than just chilling with it and taking it slowly, and perhaps playing in smaller chunks. It's similar in that respect to Assassin's Creed.
