Seriously dude - maybe you should try a different game as GTA is obviously not for you.

Meh doesn't like games!

I've been happily playing my UK copy in my US PS3 in HD but now when I've brought it to a friends house it won't work at all in SD. Simply a message saying the game is not playable in this display mode. Is there a way around this? Do other games have this problem?

Could it be a 60hz only issue? I'm afraid I don't have a PS3 for reference but trying switching between the SD refresh rates and see if it makes a difference.

OK, the games just hung again! That's the forth time. Not forgetting the non-loading auto-saves, self-re-booting system and having to delete and re-install the entire game.

It's the worst problems I've ever had with a console game. I've got a US PS3 and am playing a PAL GTAIV. I think I'm going to give this game a miss until they sort out the fuck ups.

What do we reckon it is? Bugs in the game or crappy disc manufacturing?

You don't have it running in 1080i do you?

I started in 720p - no problems - but on two occasions when I've tried the game in 1080i it's crashed. Once completely, and the other time it froze for about 30 seconds (looked like a standard hang) before sparking back into life. Back to 720p and it's still fine when it actually fucking loads.

Okay, I just tried leaving the network enabled but deleting the install.

The game still doesn't load.

The ONLY way to play this game with a save that stalls on the loading screen is to disable the PS3's network connection - don't do anything else, and the single player element will be fine. Of course, you won't be able to play multi but hopefully the lazy fucks at Rockstar will have *finally* got a massively overdue patch out by the time I want to delve deeply into that part of the game.

Thanks for the tip. I literally just came here to post that my game has frozen on the loading screen.

Just discovered a better solution:

Leave network enabled, BUT disable the media connection - It's just loaded for me doing that and multi can still obviously be enjoyed.

Still, really unforgiveable bug. I suspect that among the wider public GTA IV PS3 will be one of the most returned games of all time due to this, because the majority won't have a fucking clue what's going on (but perhaps many of them won't have it connected to the internet in the first place, so....).

So can we conclude that RockStar knew about this appalling state of the PS3 game, and released it anyway? It is a very poor state of affairs. I feel sorry for the people on here playing it on the PS3, but if you figure that a lot of people with it on that format will be the traditional GTA 'casual' audience, you wonder how the fuck they will untangle the mess. Especially people who have bought a PS3 pack for GTA4.

EDIT: Essentially what Warsawza said above.

Yeah, they must have known. I mean, I love the PS3 version when it's working well in-game - for me, its advantages (in single-player at least) appeal to me more than the 360 version's advantages but this is a fucking mess. No way could I recommend it on PS3 ahead of 360 before it's patched now that I've seen this happen. That said, it's still a must-buy if you only have a PS3....as long as you know what to do when it fucks up!

Played 16 hours so far, and just generally pissed around doing a few missions and spending a lot of time taking Michelle on dates, bowling with Roman, Little Jacob etc. and realised I hadn't humped a prostitute yet. So drove around, picked one up, and went for the $70 service. Then, as she was walking away, I mowed her down with my car. She was still alive though, so I got out and bashed her to death with a baseball bat.

The guilt was unbelievable. I felt really bad about it, and I've never felt like that with a GTA game before.

OK, bit of a rewind for most of you (very early mission but still possible spoiler)...

The mission where you have to smash a shop window for Vlad and get protection money. Pick something up using L1, aim and throw etc. Firstly, it was so dark I couldn't find anything to throw. When I did find 'something' some distance away, when I got back to the shop it had disappeared from my hand. What's all that about? Took me ages to do such a mundane task  .

I'm having some problems progressing the game along. I've done all the Dwayne and Playboy stuff (including the ending bit) and now seem only to have Brucie to visit. Problem is that I keep failing his mission - the one where you have to steal a police car at the start. Do I have to do this mission to make the game progress? or is there another way to do it? I keep stealing cars for Brucie but this doesn't seem to be enough.

APart from Brucie only Roman, Manny and Elizabeta don't have 100% mission progress. Any ideas?

There's a big flashing blue blob on your radar showing you what you "should" pick up and throw. Yes, it's stupid, but easy enough once you pick up the "correct" item.

Blue blob? Didn't realise that, thanks. How about it just disappearing, that's not a bug is it? Seems well daft.

Just shoot the window.

I haven't got a gun.

Spent most of this morning trying to get it work, TBH. Kept freezing on the load screen (PS3). Well fucking annoying.

That took me ages of wandering around to do as well, there are bins all over the place in that area so I naturally thought they were the ideal thing to use but I couldn't pick one up.

I just got the "Disk unreadable" error  Was just about to finish a mission too.

Chasing down those bikers and shooting them, they where all dead, but one was showing up as still being alive, then I got the error

I gave up trying to find something to throw. Just whipped my shotgun out and blew the windows out!
