All this talk of a new wanted system and the like...?

Did none of you play Driver: Parallel Lines? A separate system for both you and the car you were driving, allowing you to change cars and escape. I would also say that on a technical level, Driver 4 was ace as well. It has loads more cars on screen than I've seen in GTA4 so far. Oh, and the driving model was better too. :(

No way man! The wanted system is miles better in this. Driver 4 had good handling, but the cars felt mostly the same. The city was also really, really boring to drive around. And GTAIV is uber-busy! There's shitloads going on everywhere. In fact, GTAIV, with it's NYC setting and bouncy cars, does remind me a little for Driver 4. But much better.

I would expect it to be better. A whole generation ahead, limitless money etc. I will argue, though, that the cars in Driver 4 all felt very different and I reckon they did handle better, and the traffic was way heavier in Driver 4. The city wasn't the best, but then it was New York and not based on it. Also, Driver 4 had the little vision cones on the police cars on the mini-map so you could see where they were looking and the like, which helped a great deal.

Still, not to disparage GTA4, it is good fun. Like others have said, they seem to have looked at all the other sandbox stuff out there and pick and mixed the best bits from them all. Driver 4 included.

I'm hearing stories of people saying that the Multiplayer's been taken down for 2 months. Anyone else heard this? I can't check cos I'm not at home, is it cobblers?

If it means actually being able to accept invites after that 3 month wait, then I don't care.

Now that little moany post is out of the way, here's a cool little anecdote to redress the balance: I was walking through Bohan, when I saw some idiot littering. I picked up his discarded coffee cup and chucked it at his head. He staggered backwards and fell over, the pussy. Justice served, non-lethally. Unfortunately a nearby cop decided this constituted ABH, so I was forced to scarper.

How do you pick things up again? I just kicked the window in of that China shop on the early mission rather than looking for a rock. I got hit by a car and my hat and glasses fell off and I wouldn't have minded picking them up rather than trudging back to my hideout to get some replacements.

Like others have said it is quite easy to get away from the fuzz. I managed it quite easily on a four star rating by speeding off on one of the long straights and then hiding behind a bin with my knife out ready to shiv the pigs if they found me.

However, the scope for having a major police chase is there if you want it. Just don't speed off on a straight highway if you want a ruck with the law.

Just use the left bumper to pick small things up.

You cannot be serious. I'm sure that's just a big ol lie.

Was driver 4 actually any good then?

Yes. Played it on the Xbox and enjoyed it immensely. So much better than the travesty that was Driver 3. Great driving model, good combat model, a lock on system that worked... It was all good. Oh, and technically, it was most impressive. Lots of cars on the streets, solid frame rate, beautiful sunsets and the like. Muchos fun. Spongemantim will back me up on this one, as well.

Pob, I have had plenty of good chases with people. Keep plugging away.

Something that disappointed me was on a mission I totally cold bloodedly sniped my target, who was in a second floor flat, from down an alleyway (the first time I tried it in more open ground his thugs alerted him to my presence). Police were alerted but only 1 star, I heard a nearby radio mention they heard gunshots fired. I calmly put away my weapon, then ran down the backstreets were I seen a car parked. No-one around, the cops were in the vicinty but still hadnt seen me, so I smashed the window and stole it. I then drove calmly to the lights but the first passing police car rammed me.

Was this because I stole the car? i.e if I had a parked getaway would I have got away with it? It was a bit disapointing that the police knew it was me, even though they had never seen me.

I don't think you can pick up your hat or glasses again once they come off :( back to the safehouse!

ohh might try and drag this out the bargain bin sometime then, I loved the original driving model so hopefully this is more of the same.

Anyway back to GTA. thanks!

As far as I'm aware as soon as you get a star they're gunning for you. They probably spotted you on the satellite images or something. :(

What's a bit annoying is that if you're in the cops' radar zone, but away away from the view of police - say at the docks or something - you're still 'chased' because you're in their radar zone.

It should decrease your star rating (if you've got 2 stars or less) over time.

Er, yes, because they're, y'know, searching for you in that area?

This is why logic shouldn't be applied to game sometimes.

It would be too easy Murray. Too easy. JESUS.

Yeah but I was just standing on the docks for, like, 10 minutes whilst I made a sandwich, and forgot I was being chased, such was the manner in which they carried out their 'search'.

It still doesn't make the area safe though. I was hidden away in a building crouching behind some cover while an officer passed by me with me hidden from view. I waited and they didn't leave but it meant that it made it more difficult to leave. So it works as a game mechanic or all you would do is hide innit.

The radar area might not be realistic but it puts pressure on you, so it is awesomes.

Does the radar area get bigger as your wanted rating goes up?

Yeah, I think it's great.

I've had some epic police chases, all it use to be a was a mad dash to the nearest pay 'n' spray. It's a lot more interesting now.

Had a really difficult one the other night. After trying to shake them for yonks, totalling three cars, I finally managed to get away by jumping on a train, thank fuck.

Yes. I'm guessing on a six star it covers the entire map, meaning you'd have to pay n' spray, swap motors and hide like Lucan to get away from the Police/FBI/Army.
