Loving this even more listening to the Journey while driving about=

I love how downbeat it all is. No glamorous gangsters here, just tired old husks of men who have seen better days living out the last of them.

Killing Vlad was a surprise as i didn't really want to. Yeah he was a cunt, but the way he sorta of pleaded was odd.

The second killing Mikhail Faustin was even harder to do. It was raining hard when i followed him out of the club up onto the roof, he knew his fate and didn't even question it. I pumped him full of lead and he fell back screaming, but not dead one more to the head finished him off.

It was Niko's slow trudge down the stairs afterwards that did it for me.

Amazing game.

Did you do the execution move or just shoot him?

Yeah, when killing

Faustin

do you have the choice of using the execution move on him? I didn't get close enough to find out.

Yes. Handgun. Red circle on aiming reticule.

I've let a few people go so far, though.

Just a quick heads up for any PS3 owners looking for a game tonight, were planning one in the online thread so head over there, 10pm tonight.

I'm fucking there. Providing the invite-system is fixed.

It's going to be another 'island' in addition to the already present 4, I'm guessing.

For the buck MS have paid, it has to be something special.

I'm assuming that it'll be another full-scale single player game, set in the same city, with mostly the same game assets in terms of vehicles etc., but with a whole new set of characters and missions. Kinda like Liberty City Stories. I can't see them adding to the existing real-estate though.

The only other island they could add is Staten Island which they've already said was too dull. I bet they will open up Coney Island so you can ride the screamer and play Putt Putt

Am on a mission where you have to escape a 3 star wanted level, how do you do this? The radar is just too big to escape? cop cars keep appearing near the outer radius which 'resets' it

I panicked because I had very little very energy left so popped him from a distance. I did wonder if I could've let him go.

I was the same...not that i'd let him survive anyway. I did let that other dude survive though who was hanging off the building.

It's do-able, you just have to blitz off and hide out in an alley somewhere.

These 'choice' parts, do they have much of an impact on the storyline?

Get on a long straight road and put your foot down. It's a piece of piss to escape the police in my experience, even in the shitter cars.

No. Why would you want to?

Because it provides too much help in getting to places. It's so easy to follow the line on the map, rather than trying out shortcuts down alleys and through parks and stuff. It's not a massive issue, as I can ignore it, but I wondered if there was a toggle facility.

You can also switch cars. As long as you do it out of the police's line of sight, they ignore you in your new set of wheels and continue looking for you in your last known location / vehicle. Otherwise, Pay & Spray works as usual - although only if the cops don't see you driving in.

How does the auto-save work?

I've been too scared to test it out myself. When the "Saving content, do not switch off your console" message appears and fades out, can I safely switch the machine off and have it resume at that point? Or should I really go back to the safe house every time I want to quit?

I really wish some missions had more of a hitman feel about them. Its really got me wanting a proper this gen hitman. Hitman in a free roaming world like this would be beyond awesome.

Agree 100%. Sorry to have to nitpick, but after all the preview talk about the missions being better and more open, it's disappointing to find that they are actually exactly the same as San Andreas: it's all go to this marker > watch cut scene > start a shoot-out in a prescribed position > watch another cut scene > drive to another marker. I think R* are so in love with their little cut-aways that they can't just have missions where you get an objective and then leave you do it how you want. Shame, as I remember GTA3 and Vice being more open with far fewer interruptions. Does this change later on?

And what's with the scriped car chases? I'm sure that, pre-San Andreas, none of the missions had those. There's no need in such a detailed and random city.

The police side missions are much better. No 'oh noes they got away message' when a crim gets far away from you, for example, and no markers for you to go and stand in so you get shot to shit once the action starts.

Does anyone know if there is a way of getting into some good car chases where you are the pursuer rather than the pursued? The 'stolen vehicle' police missions always have guys toting SMGs who shoot the shit out your car as soon as you get close. This is fine, but I'd also like to do some old-school car chasing.

Now that little moany post is out of the way, here's a cool little anecdote to redress the balance: I was walking through Bohan, when I saw some idiot littering. I picked up his discarded coffee cup and chucked it at his head. He staggered backwards and fell over, the pussy. Justice served, non-lethally. Unfortunately a nearby cop decided this constituted ABH, so I was forced to scarper.

How amazing is it shooting a fleeing perp in the leg and watching them crash to the ground, euphoria-style? Never gets old.

There is, you can turn it off completely under the GPS option.

Yeah, a new car means you get nearer to the cops without them IDing you. However, you'll still get spotted if you get too near. I love the new Wanted system. It's one of the best things about the game, and results in some really organic scenarios.

Seems to work ok - I've had a couple of crashes / unreadable disc errors on my 360 version, and it's always reverted back to the last auto-save position after a re-start. I still save at the hideout when I switch off though. Better safe than sorry, eh?

In the minimap, are there different icons for the police depending on their state? (eg searching, spotted you etc)

No, but you can tell if you're in their line of sight by the colour of the wanted stars - white means they can see you, grey means they can't.
