GTA:IV Official Thread

In a bizarre echo of real life I'm finding that I prefer to travel the city on foot than drive, where possible, but I've got a slight niggle with the controls.

When in a car I'm spending most of my time holding down or pumping on the right trigger to make myself move faster, but then when I switch to walking I have to perform almost exactly the same actions with the A button. It takes my a few seconds to adjust every time I switch from walking to driving. I know right trigger = fire in gun games and also = accelerate in driving games, but I'm sure it would feel better if run and accelerate were on the same button somehow.

After making your way to the site and shooting the first leader, there is a crane to the right (one that you sniped one of the lookouts of)- climb this all the way up and you can snipe the others out bar the boss- then just run up to the boss and finish him off

I am absolutely loving the fact that you are doing the missions completely different from the way I am

I just went up the crane with the X, sniped all 3 snipers, then ran in with my machine gun and grenades, killed them all, tagged the hellicopter with the rocket launcher, and then beat the last union boss to death with the baseball bat

it's testament to how good this game is when I went out and got pretty pissed last night and when i came home I decided against playing it as I never wanted to spoil any of it by playing it really drunk.

Fucking hell, finally got onto the second island last night.

I crossed the bridge just as the sun was going down and then took a little drive through the city. Giant Steps came on just as I was pulling into Star Junction. Absolutely magical scenes.

What percentage were you on when you unlocked that island?

I'm not sure to be honest, I've not been checking any of the percentages.

I haven't done any of Brucie's missions either, so I might get that shit cracking later.

Also, Bohan is brilliant. It's like 'Illmatic: The Game!' or some shit.

I was impressed with something last night that was bug related...

I was in a truck, which was mission relevant, and crashed it into some roadworks, with me flying out of the windscreen. I tried to get back in the truck, but it was wedged between these roadworks and there was no way to get back in. I was getting worried that I'd have to start the mission again, and how that would work if I hadn't 'failed' it yet, as the truck was in tact and the game was simply telling me to get back in it. After about a minute of standing on the roof pressing Y, I was transported into the driving seat.

So there's obviously been some laborious testing of what the game decides to do if a vehicle is wedged and you're unable to enter it. Colour me impressed.

does the Social club actually do anything? I have linked up my PSN ID , but I cant seem to find any useful stuff to look at??

Nothing much that I can see. There are some global stats and thats about it.

It doesn't look like the Zit music thingy is working outside of the states. Pity. I love pishing away money on stuff like this.

Thats just a play on 'Armageddon', surely?

Yeah, San Fierro (SA) had a restaurant chain called Pastageddon among its street facades, in the same area as The Hairy Clam Bistro. Writers are prone to forgetting and recycling their own gags.

When do Brucie's missions start?

Have you played since connecting your PSN ID? I connected my gamertag after I played last nigh, couldn't find anything interesting but then found a bit that says "you must have played online with a linked gamertag to use this section" or words to that effect.
